I just picked up an Anniversary Sportster last February to go along with my Anniversary Heritage. Haven't done anything long distance on it yet but that's in the making. My Heritage has been to the Keys twice and I'm fixing to do a Saddle sore this year and my trip to Sturgis for the first time.

I just bought a 2003 Harley 883. 5800 miles. All original. Hadn’t ran since 2005. Still has original tires!!! Replaced the tires and fluids, carb clean and the bad boy fired right up! Runs amazing. $2000 how can you fight that!!

I know exactly how you felt saying goodbye to your Sporty. I traded my 2019 Heritage for a Pan America Special August of this year. Sad day for me but the PA has reintroduced me to sport touring which I really love. Have fun on yours. Awesome machine. PS: still have my 07 1200 Sporty. Couldnt part with it.

Sad to see anyone give up a carbureted bike. Over the past 46 years I have owned over 50 bikes, and every single one of them have been carbureted. I would never consider owning a computer motorcycle. I have a 1989 Harley FXRS Low Rider and a 2006 Sportster 1200L. Not only will I never give them up, but I am currently looking for another Sportster (carbureted of course) since H-D is no longer going to be making them. I have a local independent Harley shop that is not affiliated with H-D in any way. They use mostly aftermarket parts, and can fabricate parts if necessary. They work on Panheads, Shovelheads, and EVOs. They also work on any Ironhead or EVO Sportster ever made, though they are not really into the computerized stuff.

Last year I sold my 2000 Sportster 1200 a bike I rode for 7 years. I was ready to put down more miles and my wife has started to show interest. I only wish I had got a road king vs the Dyna. Didn’t think the wife would want to ride with me as much as she has.

When it's time to move on...it's funny how you get attached. My first bike was an '85 Honda VF 500. I've been keeping an eye out for one, but finding one (running) in decent condition is difficult. Good luck with the new bike. Hope it's a Honda!

@@whitmeza cool! There is one for sale close by. A 2022 GI Enthusiast for < $20. I'm afraid if I go test ride it...it will end up in my garage alongside my Goldwing!

Sorry to see the Sporty leave. Maybe, as you mentioned, you will have an opportunity to get it back some day. My first bike was a 2000 883 Sportster, which I still have for 21 years now. Can't get rid of it as it's just fun to ride.

So glad you were able to get the Pan America. I have a good feeling about this bike. Keep logging on the mileage for the rest of us, so we can get a good feel for what it’s made of. I’ve got a feeling that is exactly what Harley Davidson wants and not only do I think that was a smart move on their part, I think you’re the right person to do just that. Looking forward to seeing how it all transpires! Be sure and keep us posted.

I loved the fact you took a bike that isn't built for your challenges as they evolved. I ride a 1996 zl600 eliminator, in the UK. I'm facing higher fuel consumption, less comfort etc than my friends, but to plan a long trip is exciting. Having seen you do that and more. But that said, I do understand. Onwards and upwards. Can't wait to see more of your adventures.

Giving up the first bike? Hell no, I still have my cousin's 65 Panhead Electraglide that I bought when I was 16. Two months ago I inherited my uncle's 47 Indian Chief that at 14 I learned to ride on. I've had many bikes and like my Pan that's in crates, I've been put down. Long distance riding I understand and have truly enjoyed. Competition riding not so much because the challenge has to be won within! I wish you much luck with a great new bike. You are in my prayers Hoka Hey
