Yeah, I think it would be neat if Fallout or another game series took more inspiration from this Pentatomic Army era and its future concepts for a retro futuristic setting. Also for shooters or other games that want to have their cake and eat it with regards to weapon attachments and cool tactical gear; giving the players stuff like this kit with mid 70s era red dots like the early aimpoint models, etc. would be more interesting and cool than the usual method. The usual method being either making up something; or taking modern post 1990s red dot and holo sights and scuffing them up to look retro.

Military does have jeptacks now, although I can’t imagine what use they’ll be if they’re ever actually used. Also, funny how they had the idea to make ballistic armour back in the 50s, but it took some random guy in the 90s to actually proof and popularize that concept.

Not quite. They had flak vests for air and ship crews during the second world war. In Vietnam they even made what we would call plate carriers for logistic troops that ran supply trucks through the jungle, as they were likely to be ambushed at multiple points along their routes. The main reason that body armor wasn't widely adopted earlier was that infantry troops would prefer to carry more ammunition and rations rather the weight of their armor, and as the military commissions equipment as they find new challenges; before the pizza guy in the 90s, it was pretty much a by the army, for the army, kind of production cycle, almost always in limited number and ordered for specific tasks. The pizza guy in the 90's worked in Detroit when Detroit went sour. That's why the concept became an accessible item on the free market: cops suddenly needed to be protected from their fellow citizens for the first time since the end of the 1800s. If it wasn't for cars and the infrastructure built around them; the US could be littered with enough highwaymen that you would level up every time you went for groceries.

Yep. Not least due to better missile defences. The main flaw of the Pentomic army was how it was organized and operated. The idea was that they'd consist of light, but fast, dispersed units that would rapidly mass for assaults before being dispersed again. However, this resulted in a lack of heavy units like main battle tanks, meaning that it was estimated that even the massed forces were too weak compared to conventional forces on both attack and defence. Also problems with supply and logistics as you couldn't have large, efficent supply hubs close to the front Especially as Nuclear war never panned out and most fighting was done against non-nuclear powers
@K0RT3K

No, not at all. Nuclear explosions are a combination of every catastrophe you can think of combined- firestorms, electrical & radio disruptions, chemical hazards, etc. Could you survive reliable logistics through an affected area would be near impossible and rapid communication would be incredibly unreliable. Furthermore, a nuclear conflict with even a relatively small number of bombs dropped would become a mass extinction event. The dust cloud would cover most if not all of the planet for a decade or more completely shutting down agriculture. At the same time, the ozone-layer would fall apart causing burns to any animal without layers of skin protection. If there ever was a nuclear conflict, a guy in a fancy suit would be absolutely irrelevant to the outcome.
