I served under COL Goins from 2005-2009 and deployed to Iraq with him for 15 months. I have never had a commander who cared more about his Soldiers and I've never seen anyone hurt so much as he did when we lost our comrades. I can still picture in my mind COL Goins in tears as we loaded the bodies of fallen Soldiers onto helicopters to send them on their final ride home and so filled with grief that he couldn't even speak to address his battalion. I will always have the utmost respect and admiration for that man.

Colonel Goins has a poise and demeanor about him that is very manly. He seems like he knows what matters in life. I could easily believe he has seen a lot, stands up strong in battle, yet remains compassionate; probably particular for his fallen comrades. I do not know why I think that just by observing him and his body language, but he displays certain qualities that I would like to have. He displays qualities I wish all men had.

mallarysangel All who serve deserve merit and recognition for their service, and no offense is intended towards anyone...having said that... The Colonel, is an airborne infantry soldier...not a personnel clerk. Colonel, Sergeant, Captain, Corporal...doesn't matter...an Airborne Infantry Soldier, by the very nature of what they do and how they do it...jump out of an airplane into the heat of battle...will exhibit a certain demeanor that's characterized by another "colonel" (aka Jack Nicholson/A Few Good Men)...We use words like "honor", "code", "loyalty". We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. That's what you will usually see in an Airborne Infantry Soldier. GOD BLESS! ......Army Vet ('Nam)

one two because they go to bed at night not knowing if their husbands or children is ever going to see them again, they are the people who sacrifice as much as the men and woman who serve do. It's an absolute disgrace that you called them such horrific things. They leave their families to give the freedom to the other families of the people of their country. You have never been in their situation so who are you to judge them, have you ever put on that uniform and got shot at day in and day out, have you ever went to bed not knowing if your husband/wife is going to return. No, so don't judge them.
