Soldiers are going to make mistakes in Army basic training. They will get yelled at by Army drill sergeants. There is not much that can be done to prevent it but they can reduce it by avoiding these mistakes in Army basic training.

Waking up at 4 am and doing crazy PT then eating a full breakfast at 7 am then go to sitting in a class at 8 am, trying not to fall asleep was a real struggle and yeah, everyone in my company made mistakes and fell asleep (me included) to the point where by the time class ended, there was a small platoon in the back doing exercises to stay awake.

If I did my current job before the Army. The wake-up time would have been not an issue. On regular days, I work 3:55am-12:30pm. But that 1 to 8 would have been a killer. After 12:30 p.m., is my time not the Army time.

If the instructors ever come out angry about something but are non specific about who did it. Just know no one did anything wrong. They just needed to burn some time before the next training evolution. So as you're doing the exercises don't think too hard about. It'll save yours and everyone else's mental health.

On the Forge, I saw a guy who was close in distance to where I was fire his weapon (of course it was a blank firing adapter) at a drone overhead when we were "pulling security" in our hasties (whatever those foxholes we had to dig were called). A few of the drill sergeants went straight to the guy. The drill sergeants made all the males of our platoon get up and go low crawl, then, they went to where the females were, got th e females of our platoon together, and made them lowcrawl with us. They probably had no idea at the time what the hell was going on. But yeah just deal with the bullshit and make it through.

All these 5 things are true. Most important is attention to detail, that will ultimately save your life if you are in combat or other dangerous situations. To this day I very much pay attention to detail. In civilian life it’s important too.

My background check was done in about a week or so, took the pycat as well, did all that and it was ultimately up to ME when I shipped to an extent. I swore in for the first time on Aug. 30th, had to put my 2 weeks in at work and finish some other minor things so I CHOSE Sept. 25th as my ship date. I'll turn 32 in Basic so that's just swell lol

What's the toilet paper situation like? What kinda ply. How long do you have to drop the log? Do I have to stare at someone across the room when I drop it?
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 9 ай бұрын
You'll most likely barely have much toilet paper to use or soap to wash your hands with. When you're not doing training, you'll have some time like 10 or 15 minutes to use the latrine and crap . "Do I have to stare at someone across the room when I drop it?" Outside the bay latrines, you'll have to have battle buddy (also in AIT, because....Army) but in the bay you wouldn't need a battle buddy to come with you. Also youre gong to have stalls, so nobody's going to be looking at you sit on the toilet. You probably won't be crapping near as much in reception or basic training as you do right now, because you're probably going to be constipated from the stress, the fact you'll eat less and you have a very short time (five minutes max in reception and maybe like ten or fifteen max in basic) to eat, then the MRE's youll also eat in the field would do a job stuffing you up too

@@vecremser2226 my personal advice from personal experience: whenever you get the chance to go to the troop store, stock up on baby wipes and ziplocks. Prep some of those wipes in a ziplock and stuff it in your camelback-congrats you now have dual-purpose supply of bathing hygiene and what my DS likes to call them: shit tickets :D saved me and my mates so many times, especially during CQ when the hallway latrines usually never have rolls. Alternatively if you don’t have ziplocks, MRE Beverage bags are also good. If you also don’t have baby wipes for whatever ungodly reason, stash some toilet paper from the barracks during personal time. From my own experience, my company always had our personal stock of toilet paper in our bunk storage.

I’m 33 and going to basic at 34. 11B Option 40. Things I have been doing to get ready is learn the creeds and ranks now. Run, calisthenics and stretch everyday (start slow/ every other day). Gym with weights every other 2 days. The asvab isn’t bad, I promise it’s mostly common sense. You might want to refresh on math, there’s algebra. The main thing is keep getting better everyday and you’ll be as prepared as you can be.
@golfery5119
@golfery5119 9 ай бұрын
You asked for advice. A 29 year old dude should not be enlisting in the Army in my opinion as an older guy who enlisted. If you want to join the Army, do so as an officer at that age if you can.. *ESPECIALLY* if you want to enlist as 11b infantry.... you are too goddamned old to be mowing lawn and scrubbing toilets and sweeping out a motorpool like some janitor. In the Army, you have to go to the field for weeks at a time. Do you have a wife/ kids? If you do have a wife/ kids, you won't be able to contact them in the field because obviously you have no cell phone/Internet service in the field. If you aren't married, in the military you will have to stay in barracks if you enlist instead of going officer. Officers don't have to stay in barracks. If you join the Army, and you stay unmarried, you will have to stay in the barracks, until in some cases if you're lucky, the rank of e5. But probably more likely than not, you will be stuck in the barracks until you make the rank of e6, which not everyone is guaranteed to get to. There are some soldiers who stay in the barracks for eight or nine or ten years, if that's how long it takes them to finally make E6 so they can finally get out of the barracks . A thirty something year old man is too goddamned old to be staying for years and years in the fucking barracks . Just like you're too goddamned old to be dealing with the childish games that infantry plays with lower enlisted. Back to the barracks, I want to bring up another point. You might not want to hear this, but you're a fucking 29 year old grown ass adult man. Not a little kid just graduating hight school. I would strongly suggest you check out the air force.... because in the Air Force, you are across the board guaranteed to get out of the barracks after three years max at the rank of e4, and sometimes even the rank of e3 sooner. You got to be a fucking idiot to think that it would be better to stay in the barracks at your age, for five to ten years in the Army when in air force youd only have to stay for three years max. Going back to if you have a wife/kid. Most people in the Air force rarely if ever go to the field. You can get what's called a TDY assignment, but you would have Internet/cell phone data access to have some communication with your family while you are away. You honestly can't justify completely ignoring your family for weeks at a time with no extra pay or benefits. You just can't. So to summarize, it would be advisable to either 1) come in as an officer if you can 2) go guard/reserve instead of active duty 3) don't sign up for infantry unless you are an officer (an officer is not going to be a detail bitch. That's going to be YOUR dumb stupid ass if you enlist for goddamned infantry. Oh and it goes without saying that as a thirty something year old man, it would be absolutely dumb as hell to pick a job with zero civilian translation). Pick a better MOS. 4) as a thirty something year old man looking to join the military...take your stupid ass in the air force. I've had more than one older Army enlistee actually complain to me, that he or she felt like he or she was being treated like a small child while the air force kids who just graduated from high school got to go outside without a "battle buddy" while the army all needed "battle buddies" to go to the fucking bathroom because the Army doesn't trust you to use the bathroom by yourself. You're not a fucking kid. *THINK*

The ASVAB or PICAT are both fairly easy if you take your time and read the questions. It’s all multiple choice and you get a piece of scrap paper and a pencil so you can work out some problems. I took my practice ASVAB with my recruiter at 29, got a high enough score he wanted me to take the PICAT. Got a 78 (I believe 30 is passing). Didn’t study, wasn’t an “A” student, almost a decade from school. It is common every day stuff. ‘If a bus is driving 60MPH how long will it take to go 30 miles?’ Easy stuff like that. If that question is hard for you then study for the ASVAB, your recruiter will work with and will have study material for you. Also the recruiting station I went to had weights and would get together with kids from high school that weren’t shipping out until graduation to work out with them. You can always see if your station does that. The National Guard route has a whole program called RSP that is more involved. But the ARMY as a whole has that “fat camp” can’t think of the actually name of it or how one does that. But it’s where recruits who meet all other requirements except physical/weight. That may also be an option to get in shape. But just running every other day. One for distance, run as far or as long as you can. The next day run short distances as fast as you can. The next time run a mile as quick as a can. Break it up and space it out throughout the week with lifting weights or just pushups. Try yoga. Yes yoga, it will stretch your body and make you more flexible. You aren’t a teenager anymore. Have a strong mindset. If your mind is all over the place, with constant thoughts and anxiety try meditating for 10 minutes a day adding time as you get used to it. Having focus will help a lot. And to close it all up. Talk to s recruiter and not people on KZbin/social. Go get after it. Ask a recruiter for help. They will help you in the areas you need help with. It is literally their job to get you into the ARMY. Of course not all recruiters are the same, so experiences may vary. The official Army website has physical requirements online so you can see how your push-ups, run times, etc meet or exceed the ARMY standard for your age and sex. Long comment, but hope you got something from it. I joined at 29 so I guess this comment spoke to me. Good luck. EDIT: There is also digital versions of the ARMY Blue Book. Either PDFs online or mobile app. So you can read the official book you will be issued. It contains everything you should know before going to basic.

I am the greatest armed forceman in hsitory. I was in the u tied states of America Army for 8 years and overran the previous best, George Washington. I only had a month left in my contract when in my opinion I did enough to overrun him. I would beat him in a 1 on 1 armed forceman battle, combatives or with weapons. If I was sent to Ukraine and still a United States armed forceman with my high military iq I would end that war in two months all by myself. Just give me a weapon and get out the way and let me do my thing, the Michael Jordan of armed forces.

That is what I tell people. The military teaches you to take personal responsibility. Not like law enforcement that uses QA like a shield. The it responsibility of command. You are responsible for those under your command. That is great in my opinion. Either help the screw up or get then out of the unit.
