Soldiers Stenciled Into Sand for 80th Anniversary of D-Day

This art project on a beach in England isn't about building the best sand sculpture. Instead, it's meant to remember those who lost their lives storming a beach to defeat the Nazis in World War II. Eighty soldiers were stenciled into the sand to honor the sacrifices made so long ago. D-Day was the day 150,000 allied soldiers invaded Normandy, France, which was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1944. Inside Edition Digital's Mara Montalbano has more.

Utah and Juno were in a way easy compared to the rest as German resistance were light and fewer. Gold and Sword were challenging, but Omaha was FUBAR.

Even fewer people know how tough it was for the following two months or so as the fighting moved inland, with the Americans struggling against the bocage terrain and the British and Canadians struggling against the German panzer divisions. A lurking Tiger or Panther tank was nightmare fuel.

Oh, my. What a moving tribute. My father fought in Europe in WWII. Many of my uncles did, too, and some never returned home. Thank you, gentlemen. Here in America, where the mainland never saw an invasion and people didn’t know about the U-boats lurking off the coast, so much has been forgotten and even more people just don’t care. We should always care. In the rising of the sun and in it’s going down, we remember them.

People dont realize the fear D-Day brought to the soldiers. I mean just imagine playing the same Minecraft world for 20 years 27/7 (representing your life) on hardcore and then one day it just might be taken away from you. If you’ve ever lost a hardcore world u know how bad that’d feel. Now imagine that happening to 150 000 people. And imagine all the dogs u tamed be left alone forever.
