England made a huge mistake when it sent its prisoners to Australia. Australia is beautiful and has excellent weather and 'security'. England's weather is terrible and much worse than Australia's weather...and their security does not compare to Australia's security. Here's their mistake. England should have left the prisoners in rainy, cold England and moved the country to beautiful sunny Australia that has great security.and weather. Go see Australia when you have a chance.

I learn something from every video - excellent point about catch basins slowing down the water coming into them, so bypass with pipe and join the basin with a wye. I have kind of an exception to that rule. My township will install a small catch basin at the edge of the street for homeowners to run gutters etc into, with township pipe running from there into the main storm drain system. This gives them an easy inspection point at each house. If they're seeing something in the system that shouldn't be there - usually bubbles and whatnot from someone illegally discharging laundry water into it - they can check each little catch basin and figure out where it is coming from. My 4" PVC comes in near the top of the basin, and their 5" pipe goes out completely flush with the bottom, so it doesn't even accumulate silt, let alone any leaves or other gutter debris - absolutely no maintenance necessary.

I could make one but it would be meaningless instantly due to changes in prices. PVC has gone up 61% in the last year due to hurricanes, covid, and election year. So it wouldn't be accurate for long.

I put 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe in my yard for downspout drainage however on the vertical connection to the downspout I have a transition to light gauge pvc and Wye-connection with an iron age cast decorative cap on the Wye. The idea of the Wye is it provides access if the homeowner ever needs to clean out the PVC for whatever reason. Above the Wye I have a transition piece that allows the aluminum downspout to seamlessly connect to the PVC.

So, what can you do so that the catch basins don't catch dirt/mud? Where I got my french drain recently installed there is very sparse grass. I assume maybe grass will grow and stay now that the drain is in. It usually grows in early then dies off during storm season.

I like your idea too but I don't think you solve the surface water or subsurface water in the yard? yes you get rid of all the roof water from the gutters but what about the water from the yard or other parts of yard?
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
I have found (and I tell my customers) that rain landing on yard is not a huge issue. It's when the gutters concentrate thousands of sqft of roof area and concentrate it via a downspout that flooding happens. I often cite that "taking the gutter water out of the equation" can solve lots of issues. We also don't have subsurface water here because we have lots of clay. Check out this video where I revisit this job over 2 years later to check in. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZukp5immpV3iZI

23:30 - will the incoming water always clear out any silt, or can the catch basins actually fill up with silt? Would seem a minor maintenance check to peek in on them and clean out any accumulation (?)

In your area, are you allowed to tap rain water into the sewage pipe system?
@GCFD
@GCFD 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely not! The reason is rainwater overburdens the wastewater treatment plant and does not need to be treated. It should be collected and moved by the stormwater management system.
