Silly that they would install the AC unit on the nice new pattio. I would have figured somewhere else to put that. Good job though. Thanks a bunch for showing us the end result and the system working.
@GCFD4 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what the HVAC guy said! The portion of concrete along the house is meant for a barrier to surface water and so was never meant to be part of the patio. But after it turned out so nice, you might think it could be a walkway. We may yet reposition the condenser somewhere else.
@HappilyHomicidalHooligan3 жыл бұрын
@@GCFD If water running into the condenser is your worry, you can get steel brackets that attach to the side of the house to hold the condenser a foot or two above the ground... Or just lift it up enough to slide a set of 2x2 patio stones under it and lift it a few inches if that's all you need...

Would putting a channel drain on the border of the concrete/lawn been better? Lawn looks like it would pool next to patio.
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
That would collect water coming from the lawn but not water landing on the concrete. Placing the channel in the center of the concrete catches all the water landing on the concrete as well. Great question Ivan!
@ivang86553 жыл бұрын
@@GCFD thanks for your reply. I thought that concrete patios are usually completed with a slight incline leading away from the house. If that were the case, the channel drain at edge of grass would have served a dual purpose.

Why not use High Octane French Drain Pipe in a burrito wrap style instead of using solid pipe so that you evacuate all the water from around here entire foundation. Check out the KZbin channel French Drain Man. I think he has the best true french drain designs and materials in the industry!

I don't follow FDMs techniques. A thin layer of fabric clogs up far faster than 12" of angular gravel. He also uses river rock which shifts too much underground. Check out my video - the ultimate flow test where I compare corrugated and solid pipe.
@NewVisionLCS3 жыл бұрын
@@GCFD Very interesting. Your corrugated pipe video I feel is very misleading. He doesnt use the standard home depot / lowes black pipe that you refer to in your videos. You have to compare apples to apples. He also uses 1 1/2" to 2" Round Rock not Pebble Rock/ River Rock that you're referring to. So how are you removing excess sub surface water and keeping sediment from clogging your pvc pipe? I'm only asking because both of you are trying to accomplish the same thing as contractors, but with solid pipe, if the ground shifts, or you have a freeze, the pvc pipe is know to snap, which would cause your pvc pipe to fail. Big huge businesses to include government and highway engineers are using his product and technique. Are you saying they're wrong?
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
I use 24" of angular gravel to the surface. The angular gravel locks in place and doesn't shift around. So that's my filter for sediment. Plus I don't pile dirt on top of it to clog the system. I install vented cleanouts in my french drains as well. Subsurface water floods into the spaces formed by the angular gravel, floods into the pipe and out to the street. I have french drains that trickle all year round and gush after a heavy rain.
