SPF! The PBIA Way! Set Pause Finish. I love your take and can really relate, maybe I will change “set” to “settle” in my Mantra! Keep up the good work Ron.

Ron, just discovered your channel and SUBSCRIBED!!!! OUTSTANDING information that you're sharing. Can you tell me something? Can you expand on "settling your mind"? Do you take breath? Sy something to yourself? etc... This may be exactly whaat I need. Thanks a million! I appreciate you

Thank you very much Mike for subscribing and for the kind words, I really appreciate it. Thank you for your questions as well and yes, I do take slow controlled breaths throughout my play. I will also take deep controlled breaths while waiting my turn as this not only keeps my head oxygenated, it also keeps my heartbeat under control. As for settling your mind, all decisions must be made before stepping down into the shot. From there, confirm alignment only, then settle at the cue ball after feathering. Once settled, purely focus on where you want the cue ball to be, at the ghost ball position. Do not be thinking about position as you’ve already done this during your calculations while standing over the shot. You should only be concentrating on sending the cue ball to your ghost ball and executing the stroke per your earlier calculations. The idea is to reduce brain clutter. The more clutter, the less consistent we will be. I hope that helps and please feel free to ask questions at any time. Thanks again Mike 👍🏻 ❤️🎱

Ya I get that way too! Hey I played in a pool tournament on Saturday at Gators bar 🍸🍺 and this time I came in 2nd place! I caught on fire 🔥 and wow every shot seemed easy to make!! I need some more work on my English the guy I lost too had to run 6 balls and he did I knew all the English shots and I started to miss for the championship!

Congrats Jeremy, it’s fun being in dead stroke. It sounds like you are taking your game up to another level for sure…now it’s all about consistency. 👍🏻💪🏻

Hey Ron, when you are practicing your straight in shots, how many do you make out of ten before you try longer shots? l am talking about drill work. Thanks, James
@ronthepoolstudent2 жыл бұрын
I don’t count anymore, I go by minutes. I shoot for around ten minutes without a miss. I suppose this would be somewhere around 18-20 straight.

Something fun to do is to have a race to whatever number against another player with this shot. I used to do a race to 10 with a great player, and I often came out on top which gave me confidence that I was doing something right.

Ron, great video! I've been pausing with success for a few months now. Upon pausing, I then raise my concentration level for a short burst of time, which gives me more clarity and certainty before making the final stroke to the cue ball. You mentioned "settling of the mind," which seems to be what happens when I suddenly raise my concentration level at the pause. Do you make any conscious attempt to concentrate harder at the pause or does the "settling of the mind" tend to occur naturally at this time?
@ronthepoolstudent3 жыл бұрын
Awesome Steve 👍🏻 and GREAT question. Yes, I do concentrate at this point. I focus on the amount of stroke I’ll be putting on the cue ball with the tip placement I’ve selected. This gives us that needed extra time to settle our mind and “concentrate”. (as you’ve mentioned.) With a cluttered mind, it’s difficult to focus or concentrate… Thanks again, I love hearing I’m helping as I share what’s working for me…👍🏻😊

Thanks for the info. I develop anxiety every time I have long shot. I will put a pause in every shot from now on. What pool cues do you use?
@ronthepoolstudent3 жыл бұрын
I have a Predator Sport II w/Z3 11.8 maple shaft Terry. Also, I removed the medium Victory tip and replaced it with a SIB hard, I really like this setup. Thank you! 👍🏻

Update Terry! My go to tip from now on is a Kamui Black “soft”. That SIB I had been shooting hardens up too quickly and I started miss cuing terribly. Just an FYI…

I don't know if I cheated but I took a half of a valium once and then the other when I felt that one and got into stroke in a loud trash talking ring game back in the eighties blocked out all the noise didn't hope others would miss just took advantage when I got the ball one of my best nights ever and seem like I just woke up when it was over.i don't do that
