Nope you are paying just for the BRAND NAME ... people are so stuck on LABELS - APPLE THIS SSL THAT BLAH BLAH BLAH... I have seen KZbin clips of interviews where it was mentioned that the SOFTUBE engineers who teamed up with the OFFICIAL SSL TECHS and ENGINEERS have off the record told them that the SOFTUBE EMULATIONS OF THE SSL BOARDS BY FAR BEAT SSL’s own PLUGINS AND ALL THE OTHER PLUG-IN DEVS who’ve made SSL type mixer plugins and they have said this at NAMM and numerous events to the detriment of SSL .. maybe the SSL engineers had a better vibe of Connection with SOFTUBE engineers but if you. LQQK at what they’ve recently done with the Roland Juno emulation plug-ins and the MOOG one It’s almost a mirrored match better than ANY PLUGINS that have attempted to copy the Roland Juno sounds ... so it’s a preference thing but my budget is limited and I can’t buy everything that comes out so I waited and waited and watched countless YT videos before I pulled the trigger o. The SOFTUBE PLUGINS and the CONSOLE 1 & THE FADER 1 units.. just FYI...

I got my UC1 yesterday and think it's awesome - a game changer because of the SSL360 virtual console with the overview of the whole session, this is the key and makes it very fast to jump to any track and adjust things. I have the Console 1 as well and with Logic the track selection is manual and very cumbersome. I will probably keep the console 1 because it has a great graphical interface and some more features . . . I also have the UF8 and the new UC1 is a must-have and makes it much more usable

I just added an old ipad to my desk as a dedicated display for the console 1 app - really nice to have and gives all the track details etc. I never bother with the actual vst plugin ui. Before having that I would have to use the button to pop up the app on my main screen. Also, the console 1 app has several display modes which is handy.

Definitely forgot to mention this. The dedicated iPad solves a lot of issues! I haven’t really found a practical use in my workflow for the different modes yet, with the console 1 alone. Love the additional options the Fader 1 gives .

@@ZndBornMixedIt I have 2 ipads, one as 3rd screen for the C1 channelstrip display(the detailed one), and a second ipad underneath that which runs Avid Control, 10 channels, in meter mode, using Cubase + Eucontrol, and that one mirrors my C1 fader, with daw track colours and all. I have found this to be the best and most complete workaround. The Avid Control ipad sits at the top of my C1+fader desk module, while the 3rd screen ipad with the C1 OSC is above the Avid one and just under my 2 main monitors.

I think you have done a good overall review here but it should be emphasized that with the UC1 you are getting arguably the best channel strip money can buy (sold separately its 329 USD) and a world class bus compressor valued at the same price. These do go on sale from time to time as a package and you can save significantly but if you are comparing apples to apples, I’d say the UC1 does not lose out on price point vs Console 1 - both are great tools to be sure, so it just comes down to taste preference I think and how much you want to get that SSL vibe in your mix. Thanks for the vid.

Console one does have an overview mode like 360. It can show track settings across multiple tracks. You have to enable that mode on the gui. As pretty as 360 is it is much slower for accessing settings and working. Having dedicated track buttons makes C1 really fast for selecting and editing track settings. The muscle memory focused approach of C1 makes it super fast on big projects

No, since you need an interface or satellite to be able to run the UAD plugins. From what is known so far, Console 1 uses the DSP version of the plugins. I’m not sure if they have any plans for UADx (native plugins).

Love the channel and videos as always dude…. I know you’re going to be doing a video on the UF8, you gotta talk about the GLARING oversight that SSL made by not not adding “track follow” as a feature. Any track I click on with my mouse in studio one SHOULD then appear on one of the faders on the UF8.. this would be the logical step so that it HELPS you navigate your session easily…. The fact that they didn’t makes it double the work to fly around sessions and use the faders with both mouse and controller.. it feels like more of a hassle. So annoying for a $1299 unit.
@ZndBornMixedIt

@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 3 жыл бұрын
not an oversight at all. It works - track follow is on for most of my sessions on these. Check my reviews. You just need to insert NCS2 as a first plugin in Logic Pro fro Example. Whatever you select on the UF8, your DAW and UC1 follow. You can turn that off, and control 2 plugins at the same time, one with teh UF8, one with teh UC1, which - can be an added feature.
@brucekai7462
@brucekai7462 3 жыл бұрын
@@massivebeatzz Are you sure??? So I can click any track in my session, and the UF8 will automatically jump to that channel I have selected in my daw and put that channel on any given fader out of the 8??? If it’s working for you then you must be the only one because I haven’t seen anyone demonstrate this yet… can you point me to a video where you’re doing this please?
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 3 жыл бұрын
@@brucekai7462 first test if when you select (SEL) on UF8 then DAW must follow. That's the most important thing , as we are selecting tracks on the hardware, not with a mouse anymore. If you ever need to select it with the mouse, just click on that track, and the UF8 jumps there as well. The UC1 also follows. Absolutely works. Just like any other midi controller. I am going to make a video for this on my channel, since a few people have been asking.
@brucekai7462
@brucekai7462 3 жыл бұрын
@@massivebeatzz ok I understand what you mean. I don’t think that’s “track follow” as everyone expects it to be. I’ve owned an SSL console but have been working with a DAW for decades now so I don’t think people can suddenly give up the mouse aspect of their workflow. “Track follow” to me is having a session of 20/30/40 tracks or more, and let’s say I’m editing a track somewhere randomly and I click on it, then that track should suddenly be mirrored on with fader 1 of the UF8 or AT LEAST one of the 8… that’s how the single faderport works and it supremely effective and efficient. I don’t think we are talking about the same thing because Jim over at SSL has mentioned that this isn’t possible and lots have agreed it’s a big oversight for a controller that costs $1299 when the one from presonus at $99 does it straight out the box.

@@massivebeatzz Look here man, I own both Console 1 and the SSL channelstrip + bus compressor. @@massivebeatzz Why is that a surprise to me? Simple: 1- Sound test, 2-I've read about the duende series from SSL, from which all the new ones come from, over on gearspace, from a guy that was representing SSL over there, so that's why I know that their plugins were not intended to be an analog emulation of any console, but rather the algorithm from the A series consoles from back in the 90's, console 1 was being compared back then with the SSL plugins and the dude wrote about what they actually did.

Thanks for this! Givin' the people what they want! I only wish that Console 1 worked with Plugin Alliance strips. I actually had a chat with Softube support about it just last week. Not happening. "Too much work on the back end.". Bummer, cause from what I have heard, Dirk and PA are down for it.

@@ZndBornMixedIt... LOL right? :) My point to the guys at Softube was are we *really* living in a world where people are expected to by a proprietary controller for their Softube plugs, another for Waves, another one for Plugin Alliance?" Beccause that's just dumb. The existence of Console 1 on it's own is not going to keep people 100% loyal to a single ecosystem. Softube could dominate the market right now and simply force the other plugin devs to comply with their standards. Either way, I agree with your assessment that Console 1 is a great option. Your explanation and points regarding the physical layout and other upsides make a lot of sense. Lastly, I've also heard an unsubstantiated assertion on another YT vid saying that the SSL does not transmit MIDI CC's. If true, I simply could not buy UC1 until that was sorted out. Anyways, thanks again and keep up the good work!

If Console 1 worked with other top of the range plugin suites like PA and T-Racks etc I would buy it, I own about 6 Softube plugins but that's not enough to warrant buying the console 1 as I'm going to be spending the same if not more time on the mouse which is not the point!

@@kadiummusic honestly the absolute best investment I ever made was in the midi twister fighter. the knobs are packed so closely I can literally and easily find my way across every knob. they were out of stock for a loooong time. absolutely wonderful. im on LPX so ive save out "modes" for controllers. When I. need to use, say a compressor? I have myipad running touch portal and I click the button to activate it, then away I go. midi twister even has LEDS to track position, oddly I rarely look at it though.

what I dont understand is.. WHY did SSL make this unit SO wide? it could have been at least half this size. 5 years after CS1, SSL still lives in the analogue world where you manually need to adjust every knob instead copy/paste. Also, the SSL channel selection is a hardware feature only, while it was easy to implement that in the software UI. I complained @ SSL .. they did not respond (or seem to care). The CS1 onscreen app is my complaint.. why does it just load after an active console one plugin?

The track follow buttons on console 1 helps a great deal. I’m sure if SSL UC1 implements it then it will be a closer race. I also modded my console 1 knobs with SSL like knobs and that helped. I also like to work on my mix balance before adding master bus compression so if you balance out your frequencies and levels in console 1 print it at -6dB or lower then you can do your touch ups in a separate session. I prefer that way so I don’t rely on the bus compressor for everything"
@massivebeatzz
@massivebeatzz 3 жыл бұрын
forget versatility - dedicated firm workflow is what it is..the buttons on UC1 are hardwired. Softube also never works 100% right. Too many variables, that are a hassle. Teh UF8 can do all otehr plugins, but as dedicated ssl9000K emulation goes, thsi is it.

The UC1 is seriously lacking (at least in Cubase). It should have the Auto Select function when selecting a channel in Cubase (like Softube Console 1 does) to be able to work on a selected channel without having to open the plugin for that channel to have it selected, since the advantage is being able to work with the UC1 without having to touch the plugin. With Console 1, you just select a channel, either with Cubase or the mix controller (iCon Qcon Pro G2 in my case), and Console 1 controls that channel. That is useful. Having to open the channel plugin or search for it with the wheel is not helpful. I hope they implement it in the next firmware update.

@@AtTheSourceStudios If you look closely, my comment was posted over a year ago (when UC1 came out). In its first version, UC1 did not have the Auto Select function implemented. The second version of UC1 implemented that feature for Logic and some other DAWs, but not for Cubase. We had to wait several months, but it was finally implemented for Cubase, and now it works perfectly. Please inform yourself before commenting.

I used to own the console 1 and fader. They were nothing but problems on my MacBook Pro. I kept them for months, boxed up and unused waiting for some software updates to come and fix them and guess what? The software updates came months later and they still sucked! Didn’t fix the issues I had with them. They still kept disconnecting, computer wouldn’t recognize them and I had to restart the computer numerous times, some of the buttons would become unresponsive and would stay like that even after restarts. These Softube consoles were purchased new from Sweetwater. They were complete junk, a waste of time and money. Mediocre ass hell!!
