Q1) I think it's stored in the 'spring' (or repulsion of atoms) and the KE is simply in the velocity. Q2) It's probably because they physically warp the lattice. If you were to think of them as a mechanical wave, they could pass through each other, constructively and destructively interfere at given points, and keep going. Charged particles however, would react to the warped lattice. Yes, no, maybe? Also, I would remove the videos from your other channel, as I found those first, and it splits your traffic.
