SOLIDWORKS PDM Best Practices for Building Templates

Hi, I have a set of lists which feed data for the template creation. I have greyed out the last two or last one in the tree based on the requirement. The pdm gives an error that the file/key is invalid if it comes across greyed out lists. Is there any work around for this.
