I ended up having to mirror the pipes one by one, probably something funky on my end. But I got it to work. Nice tutorial, the 3d sketch feature is pretty nifty.

same problem here. thanks for the fix.
@eurotechautomacao5839 Жыл бұрын
I stumbled across the same problem but mirroring the pipes one by one didn't work either. I solved it by making sure that the two sweeps I was mirroring both consisted of one 3d sketch (the path) and one normal sketch (the 70mm diameter circle). Then mirroring worked just fine.

The reason you have such difficulties applying the blends and that the section view doesn't work, is that the ENTIRE model is shelled 1mm. Including the flanges, these are hollow. See the section at 18:45. The model is in a "corrupt state".

True, I saw it too.

Thanks a lot! While I have a decent amount of experience with 'playing' on SolidWorks, it's great to see other people's methods of designing. I didn't realize a 3D Sketch can also be used to design a Sweep. I can imagine now, that designing things like bike frames will be very simple!

Only one criticism of this method is in the way you shelled the model. By doing it this way, the flanges are also 1mm wall thickness. This can be seen when you section it. Using the shell command on the pipes does make them "auto chamfer" which is nice.

I noticed that at 18:46, the section view shows that the flanges are also affected by shell command, is that what you want? Because in my opinion, we only want to shell the pipe, but still keep the flanges
@南宫清梦-p7f3 жыл бұрын
You can use split solides to separate the pipe from other parts and then only shell the pipe

Firstly you need to fill inside each of the tubes you can do that like drawing circles higher than monifold's exhaust on exhaust's place and then select swept boss/base in order to create a solid tube after do that you need to shell command and select the end and starting circle of tubes that you want to shell by setting the thickness of tube

The filets represent welding joint, then its represent metal added by welding. Ib this particular case pipes dont have a fixed wall thickness! The metal added works like reinforcements in joints. In real exaust pipes thers no advantage joining all pipes in same section (check it in real pipes), they are joined in pairs, never all toguether in same section! Good work! thx for video by the way! ^^
@freelectron20295 жыл бұрын
more thickness at the join gives more strength and more heat resistance

@@welrod1944 but this two pipe thing is for ease of manufacture or for flow reasons? for instance would it be acceptable to join 4 like this if you were going to build it from a 3d metal printer?

When you execute the "shell" command it does so on the volume that should remain solid, that is, on the flange. The flange must be solid. I think the ideal step by step is: 1 - Model the ducts. 2 - Apply the "shell" command to the ducts. 3 - Draw the flanges perpendicular to the termination faces of each duct.
