I learned to play this a little differently, and it makes it much more difficult. You can’t play a rank unless it appears in the rank directly above. So the top line still governs, but you can’t “skip over” subsequent lines just because the top line governs. No line can contain a card that is not in the line above it.

That's typically the version I play. And you're right, I think I win only about 1 in 20. Much more challenging! Thanks for the note.

To make it easier, I sleep with my cards under my pillow so I can learn where they are in the deck by...osmosis.

Thanks so much for this online game. A very dear friend showed me this sometime ago and I forgot how to play. Emotions can't express the joy in playing and remembering her when I play this game again.

I learned that you can only add a card if it is present in the row DIRECTLY above it. In your game, the 6 clover could not have been added, because it is not present in the clubs above. Therefore, it can not trickle down. EDIT: Someone else already mentioned this, I see.

I commented that point just now, too, before reading comments. I wonder which is the correct way?

The Directly above rule is the correct way otherwise the game would be extremely easy and not very challenging
@eddysantos539
@eddysantos539 9 ай бұрын
Directly above can lock you out right away however Let’s say the ACE is the starting card. If there is an ACE in one of the group of cards but there is a card with the same suit on top of it, you already lost the game. But I guess that happens no matter which way you play it actually

I've been trying to remember this game. Thank you! I think we played it a little different. It had to be played in the 1st foundation before it could be played in the second. In the 2nd before the 3rd and in the 3rd before the 4th. I think. Once again, thanks!

I do not think you played that correctly. A card needs to be in EACH of the above foundations to be able to trickle down into a lower foundation. Your play at 4:31 of the 6 of Clubs into the 3rd foundation is illegal, as there is no 6 of spades in the second foundation yet. It is impossible to have a foundation have more cards in it than a higher foundation.

Very good eye! Thanks for pointing that out. In this tutorial I took the approach that once the rank was established in the first foundation, the corresponding ranks would be allowed in ANY foundation below. Your variety would make the game more challenging (and more fun!). Thanks for writing in with that observation.

@@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy No problem, I was in the middle of doing some research on a Role Playing Game called Exuviae which takes its conflict resolution mechanic from this variant of Solitaire. Thanks for the videos on how to play. I didn't know there were so many versions of Solitaire out there.

@@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy I was looking for the name of this game, because my grandmother taught me during the pandemic, but we never knew what to call it. When she taught me, she also taught me this variation. She also didn't mention anything about filling in the stock pile spots. She also showed me a different way to deal out the game at the start as well. But I'm glad I have a name for it now!

Correct. You cannot play a card unless it exists directly above.

@@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy While it would make it more challenging, it definitely wouldn't be more fun. With those rules, you have a less than 1% chance of winning every game. You're better off rolling dice "for fun".

I learned this from a different channel but with his you can only use what's in the row above the row you're in. He said that the person he learned from said you win " 3 out of 4" games. Not so with playing that way! Seeing how you're doing it, I can see how that's truly possible! My question to you, how do you proceed if you end with one or two remaining cards as you're at the end of the cards you're going through (every third card) in your hand?
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy Жыл бұрын
I would say deal off the two cards, flip them and play the face up card ( just like you would with three cards remaining). If you have one left, play it. Best of luck!!

I’m confused learning this cause some ppl will place cards on each foundation that match the first foundation only. And some people will match the cards to the foundation above it only. Which is the right way? And most ppl don’t replenish the reserve pile like you did. Trying so hard to learn this lol
@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy

The fun way is to play a card that already exists in ANY foundation above. The true way / challenging way is to play a card that exists in the foundation IMMEDIATELY above. Tough game to win! Thanks for writing.

Only 3 cards in each pile to the left; interesting. Yes, I like finding a way to make this game a bit easier to win. Feels like it's currently a 1 in 20 shot.
