Solitary Fighter is a 2D belt-scrolling fighting game developed and released by Taito for arcades (using Taito B System hardware) in 1992. Despite being developed in Japan, it did not receive a Japanese release.
It is a revised sequel to the 1989 game Violence Fight, making the two boss characters playable while updating the UI and reworking the stages (now including NPC characters that hassle the combatants, similar to those in Pit-Fighter).
It later received a digital release for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on December 28, 2023, both as part of Hamster's Arcade Archives series. It was also included in the 2023 Switch compilation Taito Milestones 2.

I give you credit. For a lot of people this bizarre game- the tiny roster with hilarious names and ages, the bunny hostesses with knives, the inscrutable health bar, the animal abuse bonus games, the ludicrous text, the falsetto scream of triumph - would just be a fever dream. But you made it into content.

If it had come out in 1990, I would have sucked it up. Because it apparently makes all the right fixes to the first game. Unfortunately, by this point, SF2 already existed. But that doesn't mean that 1989 Violence Fight isn't legendary and pretty decent for its time

Haha! Another arcade game that just makes you stare in awe at how wrong everything is. I mean, some of the awefulness of games like this has to be intentional. Like, they just want to put it out there and laugh. Right? I just could never understand how these Japanese developers of the 80s and 90s couldn't just find some American that lives in Japan. They moved there probably dreaming of a job where they just play video games and help translate the game for American audiences. Either way, this gives fans of Engrish something to laugh at.
