NORTH YORK MOORS TOUR FEATURING ROSEDALE ABBEY AND THE IRONSTONE RAILWAY
"Remnants of Rosedale”
Filmed 11th September 2015
Post-production completed 21st December 2015
Whilst touring the North York Moors I visit the lovely valley of Rosedale. My walk takes me from the village of Rosedale Abbey along the banks of the River Seven before climbing up to follow the route of an old mining railway from where the views of Rosedale and beyond are spectacular…..
Filmed in the North York Moors in the county of North Yorkshire. Locations include Rosedale Abbey, Hill Cottages and the course of the dismantled ironstone railway.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

Spend a lot of time around there, the bank from Rosedale to the chimneys is a 1 in 3 incline but the views are stunning from there. Loved the video

Many thanks for watching and commenting. Yes I remember driving up the steep incline of the bank as I drove through Hutton-le-Hole on my way home after this day's filming 👍

Patrick, it's incredible to think that there was all that ironstone industry around Rosedale, and now there's nothing. It was great to see the remnants of the kilns on the hillside there, and the course of the old railway to walk along, too. From where you were walking along the course of the railway, it seemed like there was some real good panoramic views over the area. A brilliant video, so many thanks for the showing

I remember this was quite a tough walk at the time, mainly due to the long climb up to the old railway. Great views though as you say. Not an area I know well. but lovely all the same. Thanks Ffranc for watching 👍

By passing ,along your Whitby fillm for now , as we looked at it a few months ago and will be viewing again before our trip in September Patrick ,we were treated to more of the Wonderful North york moors , and what stunning views you gave us , This walk litterally had everythiing , from old churches . to the ruins of the iron works, which looked fantastic , on the hill side , and how great to follow the route of the former iron stone railway ....Once more the purple heather dominated the landscape too along with i noticed the rolling clouds captured on your footage , to make all in all a marvellous trip , Thank you Patrick ....Frank and Lee ..

That really was a spectacular walk along the old ironstone railway with the views it gave. This is exactly why I returned to the North York Moors a year later, to make the films in Helmsley, Rievaulx, Hutton-le-Hole and Danby, which of course you've seen. Thanks as always Frank and Lee. Cheers, Patrick :-)

Hello Patrick. This video captures the essential beauty of Rosedale, which is, in my eyes, the best place on Earth. At 8 minutes there is a little white cottage, called Brick Cottage, beyond what is now the Orange Tree (which used to be High Shop with its own post office - note the postbox set into the wall: V.R.) I understand that Brick Cottage was built with the first bricks cast in the kilns do be the dwelling of the foreman of the 'ironstone railway 'works''. It originally consisted of two rooms up and two down and still retains its beautiful beamed ceilings. The cottage was rented until after the war when the whole valley came up for sale, when she bought it. Many thanks for sharing.

Hi Angela, many thanks for your kind comments. I thought Rosedale was a really beautiful place when I visited it nearly three years ago. You clearly know a great deal about the area, so thanks for the interesting background of Brick Cottage. Good to read other's thoughts on the places I've visited. Many thanks again for your comments and for take the time to watch. Cheers, Patrick :)

Beautiful dale, good old Rosedale. If you turn right at The Orange Tree - now just The Tree -instead of left into Craven Garth, and follow the track round to the left, it brings you out in front of the East Kilns and you can follow the old railway track from there. It takes you right round the tops and back on yourself with the Lion Inn as a welcome break before you carry on the route all the way to the West kilns at Bank Top. Walking down the steeep Chimney Bank (well tarmaced nowadays) will take you back to Rosedale Abbey village. There are so many peaceful and beautiful walks in the area and Farndale over the top of Blakey Ridge is a must. It has even more of that blissful feeling that you get in the dale of Rosedale!

This was a real pleasure to watch; these videos really do justice to the places you visit and this is no exception. I am lucky enough to live right on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and I never tire of the beauty of the area. Rosedale Abbey is a lovely place, me and my Wife haven't visited for a while so this video has ensured that it will be at the top of the list when this covid 19 nightmare finally ends. Thanks again, this was a genuine treat.

Pleased you enjoyed this one too Eric. As mentioned in this film, this was my first time in the North York Moors back in 2015. I loved Rosedale Abbey so it would be nice to return one day, leaving the camera behind, to spend some quality time there :)

Lovely to see the fantastic scenery of this area again. When I did a walk from Rosedale Abbey the "golf balls" at Fylingdale were on the skyline. Your video perfectly showed how beautiful and unspoilt this part of the country is.

Ooh Patrick I recognise that music from an earlier song,lovely what you have done with it. Whenever I watch your films there are many words and adjectives that come to mind to describe them,but the one that most often comes to mind,and I think it's because of the music as well as the scenery and your calming nature,is the word Beautiful,and this film is no exception. You Sir,have inspired me to do so many walks this year. Best wishes and many thanks. Pete.

Yep the song I used in the Goathland film was the theme I used differently (and to better effect I think) in this film. That's my North York Moors theme. Glad you enjoyed this one too Pete. Thanks for watching :)

I feel blessed to live only a fairly short drive from Rosedale. It's lovely at any time of year but on a summer day its a delight. I've not been for a while so its about time I visited again. The village green is great for a picnic! Fantastic video as always, I really enjoyed watching.

Hi Patrick. Ive been watching all your videos and as an ex resident of Yorkshire i know these moors like the back of my hand..If you had come out of Rosedale village and gone west across the moors that would have put you on the Blakey Road..at the top of this road is a country Inn called The Lion...they do marvellous food and nice beer and is a local haunt for walkers...you must try it sometime. all the best, Carl.

@@solitaryrambler All of your songs sound really good, but I've only heard two or three where you actually sing the lyrics. Do you tend to record them as instrumentals, or record the song as a whole, and just use the instrumental parts? Sorry if I'm being a nosey git! 😂😂
@solitaryrambler
@solitaryrambler 4 жыл бұрын
@@Randyvanbag Many thanks! No I record the music in sections, as you hear in this film for example. I recorded bits of this song with lyrics in my Goathland film, but for this I created a slower version of the same theme but just instrumental. I tend to create themes to represent certain areas, so the song for this is my North York Moors theme, so I recorded various instrumental versions of this song in most (but not all) of my North York Moors films :)
