Conscious of our guilt, we step quietly into the saving grace of God. Holy solitude is necessary. Seek to get alone in a humble posture of willing admission. Quiet reflection in solitary is to deliberate the conviction by the Lord Himself. Look into the mirror, examine your heart and see clearly what God sees. Do not be ignorant of the condition of your soul. If you are sick, one should be aware and seek healing. Know if you are drifting into danger. Are you in shallow waters, or in the deep, alone with God, accompanied only by the Bible.

WOW!!!!......Starting at 2'48" the proposed approach put forward with a possible or even a likely reconciliation with God is what led to this post. Was this 'inadvertent' or 'guided'?!!!!!! If the 19th century of Spurgeon was 'hectic', what can we say about the 21st century?!?!

At minute 28 about confession some of us need to go back to minutes 10&11 about talking to God honestly and maybe all of should see that of our own desires we may likely be more focused on worldly rather than heavenly pursuits. Particularly likely as it seems 20th century preachers may have put in our minds the idea of the 'American dream' as compatible with the Bible. Then too, in times past, the scholasticism of the middle ages possibly introduced the likely insidious philosophy of ancient Greece and possibly Roman religious practices.

Pretty interesting what he said about going home alone after to church to think about what God had to say to you during the service. Very countercultural since Christians often go out to eat together after church nowadays and usually (tho not always) it is all small talk. 🤔

Yes, this solitude and silence is so biblical as it is not the unbiblical and dangerous one being espoused in many churches today that calls us to make our minds blank and take a mantra to centre on. They say take the name o Jesus, or peace or such. This is to make it sound Christian BUT its root is eastern religion. Too long To go into here but avoid all teaching that encourages you, in Christian terms, to empty your minds.
