This series is probably the most big brain action series I've watched, considering the fact that in every fight it's always the people/team who've think ahead wins. While the fan base is not that huge, Everytime I see a World Trigger video clip I see a lot- I mean A LOT of Japanese comments assuring me that this series will definitely continue because of the Japanese fan base. The Ninomiya vs Osamu team climax had me so hyped up. I was literally jumping out of my bed and my heart was beating so fast that never happened before when watching anime. It's just fucking good.

It really was so good. And it wasn't a typical rug-pull situation where Mikumo's plan was only shown at the climax. No, the series shows him focusing on Ninomiya and ways to counter him from the start. Hyuse being so effectively countered (but taking so many agents attention), Chika's meteor being countered so dramatically, Kuga's dependable skill, Mikump's patience and adaptability to the circumstance, and Chika's slow-burning growth as a sniper (and not just as a Trion monster), all came together to make that such an interesting and intense battle. So rewarding.

In Japan World Trigger has been quite a success, specially the manga. It's just that Global skipped it somehow

That's wild. The manga was mostly saved by its western fans. Back when Jump was doing polls, World Trigger was getting bottom five fairly regularly from Japan. Now English speaking areas didn't do too much better, but it did put it near the middle. Both are bullshit though, World Trigger is probably the best written Shounen battle manga to run in the magazine.

I love world trigger and just really enjoy seeing even just a little bit more content about a show that I truly think should be more well known. it really is a great show and it is a shame that almost no one is talking about it. it is so fleshed out world with good characters and interesting concepts where every detail has a meaning.

"The other 1% is Ikoma squad" Best line right there! Absolute favorite squad, but I have no idea how they're ranked so highly when their go-to strategy is quite literally just to go yolo all the way. Which is kinda sad, cause if they didn't suffer unnessecary casualties every match due to dumb decisions(especially Kai), they could probably get into the A-ranks with their skills. I mean the dumb morons was literally ranked third in B-ranks before our squad came, which is unbeliable for a team that doesn't come up with a plan at all, EVER!

Omg- someone talked about this. Geez- I didn't think anyone else would get into this, but World Trigger is my favorite series. I'm one of the maniacs that watches it when there was only 1 season [and season 2 was just barely in process], but I absolutely adored the characters and the story behind it. Honestly, the animation didn't hurt all too much for me and the slower parts went by quickly for me cause I was more invested in what was going on with said story. What kept me with this series was switching over to manga and reading from chapter 1 to the latest chapter. The long winded story explanation parts are definitely more rough in the manga as there's more reading to slug through. But god do I love this series so much. Especially later on when certain characters appear that I think are so amazing, and they make the strategy of everything just get more and more crazier in the best of ways. It's so refreshing to see a series have unique concepts, but nothing too outlandish. Especially with the main character, god does this kid not ever get strong physically. But I love how hard he tries to get there, and when he can't, he makes up for his weakness with his strength of reading a situation effectively and knows how to use the board. And just because he's smart, doesn't mean the others on his team aren't allowed the trait. I mean Yuuma [white haired kid] is also incredibly smart. But he also gives a chance for Osamu [mc] to take leadership so that he can grow and better himself. Which he absolutely does and it allows him to grow traits that may surpass the other stronger characters one day. And I'm so excited for that development. I could go on about all these characters. They're just my bread and butter of love. Absolutely adore them, and totally didn't realize new seasons came out recently for the anime. Guess I've got some re-watching to do~ thanks for this video. I loved it a lot

i watched the first season before the new ones came out too! I completely freaked out when i found out that the second season had just started airing. Once i finished season 3 i read the manga, and no spoilers, but it just gets better and better.

One of the things I like about Mikumo is how, every time he tries to use a standard shonen level up method (super training, new techniques, borrowing someone else' power) he falls flat. The series makes a point to show that there is no magic bullet in Mikumo's arsenal. His physical training is a slow slog, his trion growth is non-existent, trying to add composite bullets fails because he can't handle them, even trying new techniques he learns from the experts fails because he gets overconfident and gets slapped down for it, exactly as his wise trainers say he will. Borrowing Chika's power works once or twice, but gets him overconfident, which gets him in trouble, and later shorts out his trigger at a critical moment, leaving him even weaker. His strengths are in preparedness, support of his team, cunning, and manipulation of the battlefield, his opponents, and even in his politics within Border. And of course, his courage. don't think Mikumo will ever be A Shinoda or Jun, but he may become a Kido or Arashima or Shindo style leader

What I find both funny and a little sad is that almost everyone EXCEPT the main character is your typical shounen protagonist. Really special in some way. Our guy is almost average to a fault. Even his motivation, unlike most of the other characters. Yes, he's smart and good at putting together plans. But there are several who have been shown to be even better, or at least just as good. And they have a much higher trion count to boot. I'm kinda hoping for(and dreading it) him getting some kind of boost to his trion. Because at this stage in the mange, I just don't see any reason what so ever to take him along for the trip they are testing for. His low trion count is too big a deal, and his others skills just aren't overpowered enough to really make a difference. Not when you have others who are just as good but with a much higher trion. So he's really nothing special at all(except having a mother everyone believes to be his older sister, haha). His team mates are though and imo, he drags them down at this point in time. All three have been now shown to be able to work quite well with others, and they have also been accepted by most. So Mikumo really doesn't bring much to the table anymore. There are plenty of others who could support Hyuse, and especially Yuuma, to a much higher degree.

@@kopicat2429 I think you are overestimating the Shonen factor of many of the other characters. Yes, many outshine him in a lot of ways, but there are plenty of "average" players as well. it's just that the manga (and our own interest) highlights the most standout of the group. As for those who might support the other protags better, well, there may be some, but here is the key thing: they don't. Yuma and Chika are very familiar with Osamu, and have a lot of faith in him. As for Hyuse - aside from the A-Ranks, few know about his identity, so he is more comfortable around the Tamakoma gang than others. Additionally, many of those who might support the frontliners better already have their own niches where they are effective, and taking them away from that to fill a slot that is already adequately filled would be an error. On the other hand, as we are seeing in the current arc, ALL the teams have been dismantled for the away team test, to show just what you have suggested: Who is riding their teammates coattails, who can provide value away from their team, and who might support who better. Perhaps some of the strongest are only effective because of their weaker teammates, and perhaps some who have had no chance to shine yet will do so. As for Osamu dragging the team down, that hasn't ever been shown to be true. I think the prime example of how he, in his weakness and lack of skill, can continue to be a key player is his role in the Invasion arc, where he was 'the carrier' and so many strong players fought to protect him so that he could make his move. And even there, he showed his wit, by creating a false trion cube to fool the enemy, and by sacrificing even the little strength he had, by turning off his trion body in order to reach the objective. Someone who can think and act like that in a crisis is a rare and valuable asset to any organization.

@@adamsmall5598 Those are really good points. I might change some of my opinions. Though misunderstand me correctly, I do like Osamu. Whether I feel he drags them down or not, doesn't change the fact that I like him as a protagonist. I've always loved the intellectual protag over the power house. But I do genuinely wonder just what exactly he can bring to the table when it comes to the away trip, where there is a need for a small elite team because of limited space. What can he do better then others, to a high enough degree that it can overcome his lack of trion? This is a slow and well thought out series, so I don't think I'll be surprised by why they end up choosing him(he's the MC, ofc he's going on the trip), I doubt it will be some bullshit reason. But at this time, I just don't see it. The only field I can see him maybe bringing an advantage, would be in the realm of negotiations and/or diplomacy. He's been shown to do quite well during his conversations with the higher ups. It's really only the options I can think of as to why they might choose to bring him along. Unless all the other braniac strategists decides to not go.

He might be suffering from stress too. Imagine keeping story this complex interesting and coherent. That's a huge task for one person. I think one chapter per month already at great pace, considering the amount of work and creativity he needs to do, and considering his health too. and usually the chapter is so long, we can consider it 2 chapters fused into one. Me personally hope that he keeps the quality, and takes his time, rather than make this another generic shounen with cheap plot to cut corners.

Have been a fan since season 1 and after skipping the filler arc i startee with the manga it it hasnt have any bad moments, everything keeps on building and the world ( universe would be a better world for this series. Sadly the releases are slow but it's understandable given the health of the autor, i wish him the very best.

I sipped the filler arc entirely in the anime. I liked the manga too much to expect the filler to live up to it for me. I haven't heard any real criticism of the filler arc, and anyone who watches it is welcome to enjoy it, but it just wasn't for me. The series stands so well as is. I think a slightly better way to add filler, instead of adding events and characters that are non-canon, might be to focus a little on the existing characters' lives outside of school a little. take the author's explanations of their lives and flesh them out just a little. that kind of thing. Might help us keep better track of the many, many important characters a little better. But that approach is also not without it's risks.

At first I also skipped the filler arc but I decided to watch it when I was doing a rewatch of world trigger. It wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. You get to see a glimpse of the other worlds and people from those worlds and how different they are compared to that of Mikato city.

Not part of the weekly Jump/monthly Square release, but it still shows the author is clearly dedicated to making the world as believable as possible. World building is not an afterthought, rather the core philosophy behind its entire existence.

For me, World Trigger manga is probally one of the greatest manga I have read and after so many years, it still is. The character feels so natural and fresh. A weak main character that doesnt went 0 to 100 because reason. A perfectly sound power system with no op bullshit. A healthy relationship between man and woman not just a love interest. One of the things I think this series makes an artform is letting the characters and the world breath. The way the world and characters mesh so well and thoroughly makes me so happy when characters are just hanging out. I remember somwhere during 2017 I randomly stumbled upon world trigger and started watching it and no anime, I REPEAT NO ANIME has ever made me wanna keep watching episode after episode (EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE A SHIT TON OF CLIFFHANGERS XD). Then out of nowhere in 2021 season 2 just comes out with the best animation I've ever seen in world trigger and season 3 just decides to come out in the same year. An anime I thought was lost and wouldn't be getting any further adaptations just came out with 2 seasons in one year. You could've imagined how hyped I was. I had high ass expectations for season 3 after season 2 and boy were those expectations met with even better animation and epic fight scenes. The end of season 3 was the crème de la crème of the series ending it off with the 3v3 standoff between Ninomiya squad and Tamakoma-2 squad. Man I can't fucking begin to explain how amazing that last ending fight scene was. OST, animations, character development, strategy everything was perfect. Then after about a year and a half I decided to rewatch this whole series and have fell more in love with this show. I JUST FUCKING LOVE THIS SHOW SOO MUCH.

I think WT is never meant for everyone tho.. Cuz amount of the details that make ppls leave this series.. the story progresses really slow and full of detail just like you said that 2nd chara are not mob that will get forgotten in 2-3eps event they add some detail to them.. like why Kikuchihara always talk so cocky and arrogant.. how Kitora really restrict to Osamu etc.. Ppls got tired with this details and maybe stop watching at the middle of 1st season.. That's why this anime are underated..

This was a very good video, with passion, pacing, humor, and excellent explanations and reasons WHY the series is good, and what flaws it might have. World Trigger is my favorite manga and anime series as well. I understand it requires a longer attention span and ability to track multiple events, characters, and world mechanics than your typical shonen, but I give the series props for sticking with that and not simplifying it to appeal to a broader audience. It is so nice top have a series like this that appeals to my less common interests.

I’ve been watching a few WT video’s and yeah. I agree. WT’s main charm to me is the character’s, every B to A-rank practically knows everyone else in the B to A-rank. It doesn’t feel like a company. It feels like a family. Even when people get smoked in the rank wars no one holds a real grudge. Tamakoma-2 was frustrated at themselves not angry at the other squads.

Mikumo is probably the weakest Shounen protagonist of all time. His progress is slower than a snail and its painful to watch, but that is what his character good. He knows he's weak and just looking what he can do best.

I've been one of those fan who watched then read the whole manga since like 2013-2014 and then still is a fan even during the hiatus (2016 I think) and waiting for any news of it coming back (oct 2018 if i remembered correctly) which really made me excited as the story stopped at ema and chika's scene before learning lightning lead bullets (i think) I'm still sad about the author having health issues and further delaying the whole series itself (can't blame the author tho) if he didn't have any of those health issues (i.e. if he had plot armor) this series could've turned into another manga/anime you probably wait every now and often. as the B-rank wars were cut half instead of going thru full length (would've loved more of those actions) and they are probably making B-rank wars end quicker because of how the story went. but what I really like about WT itself (besides the rank wars, triggers, and how strats are used) is the amount of effort they went for character development. currently on the manga they are doing boring stuffs instead of more action but focuses on the character development itself. they're probably making everyone useful during the neighbor away mission (if it ever happens this 2022, or 2023 perhaps) I'm now curious if author would make scene where a user would be captured/missing or killed. as of now there's 0 confirmed casualties that you have seen during the whole WT that's not a flashback (heck even enedora got turned into a rad, even tho he was brutally murdered by mira) there's more of trion and less of blood and gore.

30 C-Rank agents were captured and are missing from the Invasion arc. I don't think we know any of them as characters except through the after reports. Also, several HQ staff died in that invasion.

Black Triggers are indeed interesting, but they can often draw the attention of the power level fans who are just looking for OP heroes, which means they miss a lot of the point of the series. Oh, I don't mind if they enjoy it in that way, but I like how even the Black Triggers are often shown to be flawed, or countered, or limited in their combat potential. For example, people like to ask "what Black Trigger would suit Mikumo and make him more powerful," but the series is pretty careful to show that there is no magical way to suddenly make Mikumo a more effective fighter. Every time he tries, his efforts are not rewarded. The ideo of different colored triggers is mildly interesting. What would distinguish one color from another? Black triggers are OP (in combat) because they are the result of OP warriors dumping their entire life force into creating them, standard border triggers are slightly weaker than Neighbor triggers because they are mass produced and easily interchangeable, while Tamakoma 1's triggers are more like Neighbor triggers in that they are very customized, and gain power at the expense of stability. In addition there are Mother triggers and Crown Triggers, which are unique, literally world-building triggers. What would make a trigger green or white instead of black? maybe a focus on the natural world instead of combat? grey triggers might be tech focused or something?

I watched World Trigger when it was trending in KZbin and clips of it were recommended to me in my home tab. This was back in late 2014 or early 2015. I watched the series and immediately jumped to the manga. I stopped well before the Rank Wars arc takes off and boy did I not regret that decision as in S3 they reached that peak and executed it so well. The series is very much underrated since 2015 and has not been seeing much light nor has it been featured in popular Anitubers' videos. I'm really glad that you got to talk about it and it really deserves a lot of praise for not being the typical power trip protag but instead a strategic yet physically weak one.

Season 2 was so much better but season 1 is such a slog and not because it has bad pacing but because it doesn't respect viewers' time. Just read the manga instead until you get to the part where season 2 starts and then watch season 2.

In season 1 of the anime there’s stupid filler commentator dialogue that’s not on the manga as if we needed someone to tell us what happened when we already watched it. Season 1 is filled with stupid scenes where they pan on everyone’s static faces for 30 seconds straight without any dialogue as if it were a PowerPoint presentation. And in every single episode, you’ll notice that transitions are always half a second or a second longer than they need to be.

I've been following World Trigger since the manga translation was around chapter 51 (during the invasion arc) and it quickly became my standard of what action manga and anime should be like (though unfortunately it has yet to influence other series) and I always recommend the series to anyone I think might like it. I'm really liking the current arc of the manga as well, though it's generally unpopular.

WAHHHH I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH N THIS VID MAKES ME WANNA REWATCH AGAIN T^T!! When I first came across it (I believe I used crunchy roll at the time), I was like meh ok that's some random anime. Then I got bored n was searching for anime n started watching it bc it sounded interesting N IT WAS SOO GOOD I WAS LIKE HOOKED! My sister was also into it as well n it was an enjoyable anime to wait for since it was a time where I just moved for the first time. I was soooo hyped that it got a second n third season w wayyyy better quality animation n am sad how the mangakaka is still having health issues (rip :c). I now just read the chapters each time it's out on VIZ w WT OSTs...aaaaa It's so underrated. I got my BFF to watch one time, but after watching season 2 he got confused bc the time gap from watching it...I think the momentum for him on watching the anime got wonky, so he just wasn't into WT anymore (he also was like y is no one ded blah blah). Maybe it isn't his thing, but I really want to get him to give it another chance (because he DID watch s1 b4 w out filler part n I believed he enjoyed it).
