Thanks bro. I picked up a stealth kayak and have been modifying the rear hatch into a livewell lately. A little worried about how it will affect the center of gravity. I’ll test it out in a lake next week. I had it out once to make sure all of the mods were water tight and the livewell and fish finder worked, but a few more things to verify before hitting the big water.

When I clicked on this video, I thought great its the guy from Oahu I use to watch all the time when I lived in Lahaina. Then I saw an oil derrick and I thought guess its not him. So I watched the opening and the waves were rolling pretty good and thought the guy from Oahu wouldn't go out in that and he's been out in some rough stuff. Then you came on screen and I said "wow it is him". He must of left Oahu. So I see a lot has changed in your life, as in mine. I am now living in Florida after I left Maui in April 2022 (got tired of covid lock down crap). They lifted the indoor dining restrictions the week before I left. Hope it all has turned out well for you and your family.

I got the 555, not a lot of options where I got it. I think the 555 was the best option to start out, that thing is a beast.

I really like my garmin, but this model is no longer in production. It’s a 73SV with a GT-51 transducer. The new ones have cheaper transducers in them. I used lowrance for a while and they were not good units for Hawaii and died easily.

Do you use a trolling motor or pedal most the way? I wanted to take my pelican down by the old BH area and fish but I wonder if the current is too strong to pedal. Kinda nervous I guess I could just go for it.

Just a pedal drive. 10 miles is a long way if your not in shape for it. There is a closer in pole that is a lot more accessible if you don’t want to go all the way to the far rigs. The most dangerous part is launch and landing.

That was my friends big water. I liked the hobie kayaks better. The new outback is not good for rough water, but if it’s calm then it is awesome. I sold my revo and bought a stealth 555, but I still have the outback from this video.

I would have to try and remember, I’ve long since warrantied that reel. I flipped and the saltwater wrecked the reel. I switched to a Seigler large game reel and a Shimano tekota after that. In the videos it will catch up to when I had a penn rampage at some point.

Hey Dan. I checked out the new movie, Avatar 2…The way of water. Anyway, I was taken by some of the inspired fantasy species. I forget what you called them in Hawaii, but common name Needlefish, with the extra boney like fin near the leading edge of bottom jaw. You may have called them Ahhhaa? Anyway, it strikes me there are fantasy fish in the movie most definitely inspired by real fish on this, our, planet. The manner in which the aforementioned Avatar species launches itself with the flapping of the tail fin being partially in the water, while flapping furiously to get & extend air time. I’ve watched actual Flying fish do same as no doubt you have too? I hope your training is going well and you’re not far off flying the Boeing.

Texas has awesome kayak fishing in the summer. Unlimited king mackerel, cobia, jacks. If you can make it further offshore then you can get into black fin tuna, mahi mahi and other pelagic species. Winter time you can chase inshore species like redfish, trout and flounder. I haven’t done any of that yet. I really crave offshore fishing more than anything. I like shea’s channel, seems like a really cool guy!
