Lando's mispronunciation of Han is a nod towards how the actor Billy Dee Williams and his mispronunciation of the name in the original trilogy. If you listen to how he says it in episodes 5 and 6 it's completely different from everyone else.
@Rocket1377

Lots of words are pronounced differently in Star Wars. Vader says Millennium Falcon the British way (Fall-con), and Tarkin says Leia's name as Lee-Uh, instead of Lay-uh. George Lucas was happy for the actors to say the names however they wanted to, as he felt that (just like on Earth, with Tomayto/Tomahto) there would be different ways of saying things, depending on what side of the galaxy a person was from.

Qi’ra leaving him and Becketts betrayal is the reason why Han is so cynical and different in the original trilogy. In the original trilogy, Han isn’t as trustworthy and vibrant as he was in this movie because of everyone doing him wrong and so he went with Becketts thing of not trusting anyone until Luke and Leia changed him. Beckett to me is a mirror of what Han’s life would’ve looked like if he never met Luke and Leia since Han was already like him during A New Hope.

Wookies have a very strong Honor System of Moral beliefs. From My understanding - that was before this movie even existed - Han had rescued Chewbacca and risked death in the process. The details had never been "known" but from that point on Chewbacca had sworn a "life debt" to Han. ANYTHING that was important to Han was now important to Chewbacca. Over the Years their friendship became less about a debt and more like Family or Clanmates and Chewbacca and Han literally became Family. There's that scene in Empire Strikes Back, where Han tells Chewie that HE has to now protect the Princess. Han passed HIS responsibility onto Chewbacca and Chewie took that role seriously. Even taking her children under protection as HIS CLAN when they were born. For all that Humans call Wookies beasts and monsters, their society is very strong and loyal to the bitter end. Having the loyalty of a Wookie almost guarantees that other Wookies will join in keeping you protected as well.

“Han’s the best smuggler around!” Not by this point. He just started. L3 was an astromech (like R2), but then her owner left her in their workshop, she made modifications to herself, adding parts. And then she downloaded a bunch of info about droid mistreatment Teras Kasi is a martial art meant to be used against force users. There’s actually an old trilogy of books called the Lando Calrissian Chronicles. L3 being uploded into the falcon is a retroactive reference to EpV. 3PO said the Falcon had a peculiar dialect. Han said he had a street racer friend named Needles during the Kessel run. That’s a Back to the Future 2 and 3 reference! Kessel is where they got the hyperfuel from. They were taking it to Savareen We’re not supposed to know Enfys Nest. The reveal is that she’s a young woman, not a man like they said earlier. Most likely Jabba the Hutt is the big shot gangster “How is darth maul alive?!” Long story short, he survived. How did he end up in his current position? Watch the clone wars show and find out! 😄 I think Qi’ra went with Maul because she was afraid of what would happen if she didn’t. Maul would look for answers for why a lead underling is dead. He knows her, and if she’s with Han, that puts Han in Maul’s crosshairs Qi’ra very recently came back in comics as the head of Crimson Dawn

Yeah, it's not Harrison Ford, yes, there's some clunky writing that rubs people the wrong way, but it moves like a bullet, I like the characters, and I like how it throws us for a loop: the "bad guys and thieves" led by Nest are the very beginning of the rebellion. This, in my opinion, was one of the absolute best prequels. I went into viewing it with serious prejudice because I didn’t think it was possible to make a real, emotional, connective story between Han and Chewie. I didn’t think any movie would be capable of demonstrating the nature of their bond that is almost more familial than than standard battle loyalty. I didn’t think there was anyone who could be a pre- Revolution Han Solo in a believable form. There was some sort of really ridiculous Hollywood scandal at the time of the premiere that had nothing to do with this movie, and so it got completely dissed. To me it was a shame. I thought this was a perfectly cast and directed pre-quel and deserved every credit for setting up the pre-story.

I'm surprised she hasn't figured out about the actor Warwick Davis. He played Wicket the Ewok in Episode 6, and has been in just about every Star Wars film since, even the two made for TV movies. The only movies he wasn't in were Episode 2 & 3. And in this one, he actually played a character that showed him in his regular human form, not dressed up as some form of alien.

Yeah considering who she actually worked for, she probably didn't think they would have even the slightest chance of getting away with stabbing someone like Maul in the back and making a run for it, and they probably wouldn't have either at that point in time with no rebels or jedi on their side. I saw it more like she was just genuinely and hopelessly out of options and did the only thing she felt she could to not get them both killed.

Yup - I really wish we had gotten to see more of Qi'ra (I am actually holding out hope she might show up in BoBF given that other syndicates have) because I think she's a really interesting and ambiguosu character. Both with the nature of whatever her relationship with Dryden is, and her motivations at the end. I do think she knew she and Han couldn't really run away and wanted to spare him that, and I also think part of her might also have been waiting for a chance to rise to the top. I feel like there is a lot more to mine with her character and I wish the movie hadn't fallen afoul of the the other SW backlash at the time since I think they did have ideas for a potential sequel.
@tropicalcatdetective

Thats how i interpreted it as well, it feels like she knows she is trapped in this criminal underworld and the only way out of it is death, so because she loves Han she doesn't want to see him end up with the same fate. She doesn't betray him at the end because she wanted to, but because she had to, in order to spare both their lives for now, but also put them on slightly different paths as well. However because Han doesn't understand that choice, I guess he starts to lose his happy-go-lucky nature beyond this film and begins turning into the more cynical character we meet in ANH. I suspect the original intent with Qi'ra was possibly to have her die in a sequel to this film, which would only harden Han's heart even further, and kind of explain why she is never mentioned or turns up again in the OT timeline. Because we never got that film, I think Lucasfilm has allowed the writers of the SW comics and novels to take the character of Qi'ra off in other directions now.

Your slight forgetfulness of names/etc., (Lando for example) is easily understandable and even more easily forgiven since you remember some of the very important things (er, uh "I feel like I should now this..." *Jabba*, notwithstanding ha ha! ;) ), so many of the catchy things, "don't give me the odds" ("never tell me the odds" ~close enough and your genuine emotional investment into the stories and it's characters, no matter how small, your heartbreak for L3 for example, was... you're beautiful, inside and out, intelligent, insightful, profoundly compassionate, and funny! Hey, Cassie! I'm glad you enjoyed "Solo" because I feel it's a bit underrated. It's supposed to be a madcap hustle through the galaxy's seedier side. Originally, it was meant to be a trilogy but it suffered a negative backlash mostly from being released shortly after the controversy surrounding "The Last Jedi" and from reports of production difficulties like changing directors well into filming. Veteran Ron Howard completed the movie. I do hope they follow it up because it gets really interesting there at the end and I felt the cast had great chemistry! "Solo" is set 6-9 years after Episode III or 13-10 years before Episode IV. This is the early Imperial period and the Empire is still pacifying resistant worlds. That is a former Sith Lord with whom you're familiar: Darth Maul! During this period, Maul is no longer associated with the Emperor. Darth Vader is the current apprentice. Maul runs the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate. His return to galactic affairs after surviving being cut in half by Obi-Wan is chronicled extensively in the animated "Clone Wars". The gangster on Tatooine is Jabba! You're holding a cup of the guy! Jeez. There's a deleted scene that should have stayed in the film which shows Han getting drummed out of Imperial flight school and reassigned to the infantry because he refused to comply with orders that put fellow pilots at risk. The Imperial officers felt obedience was more important than the acceptable losses they would have incurred. The Imperial checkpoint woman didn't double-cross Han and Qira. Those were Proxima's goons who snatched Qira. The checkpoint lady called for Imperial security to break up the fracas! The positive attributes of "Solo" are: -- a busload of talent including Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover and Paul Bettany -- a brash, swaggering turn by Alden Ehrenreich that captures Harrison Ford's spirit -- the first meetings of Han, Lando and Chewie -- an excitingly vertiginous mountain railway heist -- the wildly imaginative Kessel Run sequence in which young Solo achieves his claim to fame of making it in 12 parsecs while tangling with a space-borne leviathan -- a glimpse into the early Empire's pacification of resistant worlds -- the re-integration of Darth Maul into live-action with Ray Park reprising the role after the character's incredible return in the animated "Clone Wars" Han firing at Becket pre-emptively cutting him off mid-sentence was meant to rectify the digital alteration of having Greedo fire first upon Han in the cantina in Episode IV. That change made by Lucas to the Special Editions of the Classic trilogy still angers fans! Lol. Han is supposed to live a rough, dangerous existence and gallantly waiting to be fired upon first not only dilutes his character but is insanely reckless! Remember those golden dice because they will make a return appearance in "The Last Jedi"!

You might enjoy "My Man Godfrey". Made in 1936 during the depression, it is a commentary on the antics of the idle rich in the face the poverty that surrounded them. It starred William Powell and Carol Lombard, both VERY big deals at the time. Powell was most famous for The Thin Man franchise ( a series I highly recommend) while Lombard was killed in a plain crash at the peak of her career. It has some very funny parts with a great cast of character actors.

Honest Trailers called this an origin story for all of Han Solo's accessories, which is both accurate and instantly made me think of the opening scene of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (perhaps because they're both about Harrison Ford characters). It is striking that Last Crusade basically did in 10 minutes everything this movie accomplishes in more than two hours.

A few things. Beckett's disguise on Kessel is the same one Lando used at Jabba's palace in Return of the Jedi. The red faced guy with the horns that Qi'ra spoke to at the end is Darth Maul. That's the same guy Obi Wan cut in half in Episode 1, the Phantom Menace. He survived and started the Shadow Collective, a criminal empire that Crimson Dawn was a part of. Think of Maul as the Godfather and Dryden Vos, and now Qi'ra as one of his Dons. That "big gangster" on Tatooine is Jabba the Hutt. At the end when Solo and Chewie head out they are going to Tatooine to see Jabba because that's where Beckett was heading and it gave then a way in.

The two main locations filmed for SOLO were in Italy, and The Canary Islands. The snow-mountain with the train robbery, was filmed in the Dolomite Range, Italy against Austria. In the First World War (1914-'18), Italy fought the armies of the Austro-Hungry Empire, in these mountains -with trenches, cannons, forts, soldiers fighting up to the peaks. This is the region where E' Hemingway served in the Red Cross (Farewell to Arms). The town of Asiago, where the cheese originates in up in the Dolomites -mountain grass feeding mountain cows (The actual Italian cheese from Asiago, is way more flovorrfull, that the domestic American version, available at Panera) I had we week, in 2002, touring the battlefields in the mountains of north Italy, in the Summer, with a trip down to Venice -so I was really happy to see this mountain range used in SOLO (Krull, Cliffhanger -too) The desert island location, at end, is one of The Canary Islands (part of Spain, off Morocco) -used for filming in Doctor Who, Primeval, the recent Marvel "Eternals", and way bacon the Sixties for "One Million Years, B.C." I saw SOLO three times in the cinema, twice with different friends, once myself -to support it in the cinema. It was not a big success, in income, compared to other Star Wars films, but it has an awesome cast, crafted by Ron Howard when previous crew were not up to the standard, a script by L.Kasdan who wrote on original SW trilogy, and it is a lot of damn fun!! Nice to see some elements of this brought up in the new Boba Fett series. I would be happy, if a character or two who survived SOLO to return in a future SW project.

Solo came out just a few months after last jedi. While there are some nitpicking problems with it the hate on release and lackluster box office was almost entirely from fans letting their dissatisfaction known towards what had just happened in the main saga. The frustration with Solo is that it really showcases how little Disney cares about the franchise. The production quality of it is really bad (likely due to now infamous director changes in the middle of almost all of the movies) and that combined with Disney's complete obsession with having to explain literally everything you've ever seen in Star Wars (Hans dice, Chewbacca first meeting, winning the Falcon, Han's last name, etc, etc, etc) just left fans sick of the entire franchise.

Mango Calrissian, I'm dying :) Anyway, this movie grows on me more each time I see it. It got a strangely bad rap in part because it was coming out in the middle of some very contested sequels (and they made what I think was a dumb decision to release it in May against the latest Avengers movie, just 5 months after one of the most divisive Star Wars movie had come out), and there was also some behind the scenes drama regarding the director changing and other rumors of various set drama. But I think it's a really fun slice of life in Star Wars, and (aside from Maul's cameo - yes, that's Darth Maul and there's a whole thing about why he's actually alive and what he's been up to lately) the only Star Wars movie to not involve the Force, Jedi, etc or even use The Force Theme in its soundtrack. Regarding Qi'ra, who I think is a really great character and I would have loved to see more (and I'm really glad they didn't just kill her off now that there is no use for her knowing that Han ends up with Leia)....first of all, given allusions to traffickers and what not, I think it can be assumed that at least at first, Qi'ra and Dryden's relationship isn't totally consensual. In the end, I think she does buy into it, simply for pragmatism/survival reasons, as well as given her own past, this is her way of getting some power and influence. Plus, Dryden has some charisma to him, so I think their relationship was probably a bit complicated. If you watch their body language, there is definitely a bit of a creepy 'ownership' vibe Dryden has towards her (not to mention she is literally branded as his property). As for her decision at the end I think that also has numerous interpretations - everything from flat out villainy (maybe she really does want a piece of that Crimson Dawn cake) or just feeling like she can never outrun her past, as well as knowing that if she pulled Han into it (or left to run away with him) he would no doubt be drawn into it. And despite what Han says, he would never survive in an organization like Crimson Dawn.

Solo suffered because it came out 6 months after The Last Jedi. Not only is that the quickest turnaround on a Star Wars film we'd ever had, but The Last Jedi is also THE most divisive Star Wars film to date. A lot of people still had a sour taste in their mouths when this released and so they didn't go and see it, or they had a bad opinion of it because of the mindset they went into it with. In my personal opinion it's a fine film. It's not anything special, but it's a lot of fun and has some fun reveals. I especially enjoyed getting to see Darth Maul on screen for the first time since Episode I, after he's been chopped in half and got robot legs!

Personally I'm a bit annoyed how politicized Star Wars has become. There are whole KZbin channels devoted to hatred for Disney Star Wars and it is almost like a religion for some people with extremism on both sides. We live in wild times. Me, I just like the original trilogy, because it's what I grew up with. I've learned that some people like the prequels, some like the Disney trilogy, and that's okay lol.

@@Psilocybin77 Yeah that's the right way to handle it really isn't it! Personally I really didn't like the Disney trilogy, but I've had some good chats with people who love them, and on top of that some of the Disney stuff can be great, like I loved the Mandalorian a lot! But at the end of the day everyone likes what they likes and people really need to learn not to gatekeep their fandom, it'll make everyone involved a whole lot happier

I didn't mind the actual story part of the movie. The actual picture quality is pretty terrible which I think is where a lot of the hate comes from. The theory is that they artificially darkened a lot of the movie so they could reuse shots due to Ron Howard stepping in and redoing so much of the film.
