The night the trailer for Phantom Menace was premiered, I happened to be hosting a party. I remember walking through the house casually mentioning that if anyone wanted to come to the living room, we had recorded Entertainment Tonight and were going to watch the trailer that was included at the end of the show. Within five minutes there wasn't a patch of floor space available, and everyone was dead silent as we all had our childhoods reawakened. Afterwards, every pocket of conversation throughout the house was filled with people trading stories of their original trilogy experiences. It was a good party.

You catch an astonishing amount of detail. You’re right, if Qui Gon hadn’t died, he would have been able to train anakin correctly. He defies the council at times because the Jedi are prideful and wrong on certain things. Anakin is complex and emotional and powerful and he needs balance. He is the manifestation of balance in the force. Teaching him purely the dogmatic Jedi view was wrong.

Exactly! Gui Gon would have been the father figure and the Master Anakin needed, and I agree the Jedi had strayed from what they should have been, many people say the Jedi and the Republic itself had become corrupt and apathetic in a way. The Jedi council was far too involved in politics instead of adhering to the will of the Force, which Qui Gon talks about. It was the fault of the Jedi in many ways that lead to the fall of Anakin

I don't know, I feel like Qui-Gon might have messed Anakin up even worse. Being told since you were 9 years old that you were The Chosen One who was destined to bring balance to the Force is a MASSIVE amount of pressure to put on a kid. Not to mention it would play into Anakin's inherent arrogance and colossal ego that he demonstrates in Episodes II and III, making him even MORE likely to think he was infallible and knew better than everyone else.
@gibbs615
@gibbs615 2 жыл бұрын
@@4everhealthwellness344 You're right about all that! Qui-Gon was definitely the only one for Anakin and the old Jedi order was really losing their way being connected to the politics of the republic which was corrupting them slowly and they really should've been following Qui-Gon's example of just following the will of the force.

If you watch the documentaries on the making of Episodes 1-3, they'll mention how Lucas showed up one day with some extra story boards. Those were pages from the coloring books! Anakin's fall is actually quite poetic it's not unlike the fall of the Nazgul in LOTR. Anakin is good and he wants to stop bad things from happening, so he seeks the power to do so but when he gets the power he doesn't want to give it up, like everybody who does evil by trying to do good he ceases to think about other peoples ideas of good. However when a traumatic event shatters his world view he no longer concerns himself with right and wrong he just gives up on everything and everyone becoming the sword of the empire. It is said that the only happiness in his life was when he worked on his personal tie fighter, like he worked on his pod racer when he was a child.

Well i would not put it like that. Nazgul were human kings that were greedy. To think that you will be able to do good with more power, wherever that power comes from, is foolish and a way to justify being greedy. For Anakin there is an ingredient of depression, and no wonder. His goal was to become a jedi to free all the slaves including his mother, and in the end..... so he did not become a jedi to do good for people he did not know and for society has a whole. Qui gon and the others misses Anakins own intentions and dreams, his world where his mother is still his everything. For Luke this is a whole different story.

Qui Gon Jinn was really Anakin's best chance at not turning to the dark side. Qui Gon really was faithful to the force and doing what was right. He didn't care about the counsel and believed in the prophecy. And bringing balance can be interpreted many ways. You can think that when Vadar kills the Emperor that he "brought balance" again...or that having Luke become a Jedi but he deals with both Light and Dark side abilities and Leia's children do the same...so you can say they are more "balanced" force users.

I’m not a fan of this movie, BUT I fully admit there are things to like about it. The podrace, the dual of fate, the music, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, the different worlds. Still there is plenty I don’t like, Jake Lloyd, Jar-Jar, the boring politics, the over abundance of CGI, the dialogue, the stereotypes. Still, that’s just me. If you like it, great! Fun fact: Jar Jar was originally meant to be a secret Sith Lord. There are numerous visual clues throughout the movie, such as Jar Jar's ability to leap abnormally high (a trait typically seen in Jedi), his seeming insane luck throughout the battle of Naboo (in reality his force precognition), and he even uses the Jedi mind trick in a few scenes to influence other characters, seen as a subtle hand gesture (given that he's entirely computer-animated, this is impossible to be a mere coincidence). Given what he does in the sequel, essentially giving unlimited power to Chancellor Palpatine and paving the way for the Empire, it stands to reason that he was the REAL "Phantom Menace", operating in the shadows the entire time. This was all but confirmed by both George Lucas and Ahmed Best (the actor who plays Jar Jar) on Twitter. Given his unpopularity with the fans, Lucas decided to retool the story and relegate the character to the background, for the most part (his granting of emergency powers to Palpatine remained, however). Jar Jar was originally seen as something of a dark mirror image of Yoda, a character when introduced is seen as a goofy, slightly annoying and mischievous type, but is later revealed to be a wise and powerful Jedi Master. Jar Jar was intended to be the evil version of that.

28:17 I believe it’s a power station. If you’re curious, Darth Maul uses an extremely aggressive fighting style called Juyo that is immensely physically demanding. It’s fast and vicious, easily overwhelming even the staunchest defenses, but leaves the user occasionally vulnerable. Without Maul’s rigid warrior training, he’d be at serious risk of cutting himself with his own attacks. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan both use Ataru, an acrobatic and similarly aggressive fighting style that trades impressive agility and offense for practically zero defense or stamina. Qui-Gon is quite impressive to have as long and well as he did given his chosen discipline. It was his master’s death at Maul’s hands that convinced Obi-Wan to switch to the more defensive and stamina efficient Soresu style.

Specifically, it is between which fate Anakin will have, the fate of being trained by Qui-Gon, who would have been like a father figure to him, and shown him genuine love. Or, Anakin would be trained by Obi-Wan, who would be more like a brother, and much more by-the-book and emotionally detached. Anakin was just a scared little kid who needed a parent. I mean it always made sense to me, its world-building. They use their ships a lot and can't afford to throw anything away. Naboo on the other hand is a small but wealthy independent "country". They rarely ever see combat, its like the National Guard, so their ships are well maintained and they can afford better hardware.

A viceroy is akin to a military governor usually tasked with maintaining a kingdom's control over a foreign colony. It isn't necessarily a military post, but viceroys often command a good deal of military power to maintain their territory on behalf of their king. You'll see viceroys associated with naval force quite often throughout history. And the giant place where Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and Darth Maul were fighting is, I believe, the primary power plant for the entire capital city. Hence, the scale. Queens on Naboo are not hereditary. The office is similar to that of a president in a constitutional democracy, only with "Queen" as the title. Similarly, the royal palace is more a municipal building where the city's infrastructure finds its nexus than a lavish dwelling or fortification.

The first two movies (A New Hope & Empire Strikes Back) worked so well and apealled to both adults and children. You don't need to work so hard to get children to buy in. You have heroes overcoming the odds and defeating the villains add in something magical or romantic and they are on board. You create cringeworthy characters like Jar Jar, alien dialogue like "poodoo", and a farting creature at the pod race ... well you're trying too hard and not giving children enough credit.

Jar Jar DID work as a character and was the farthest thing from "cynical". Two parts Buster Keaton and one part Goofy, Lucas genuinely loves Jar Jar for what he is. I can certainly see why he is not and will never be everyone's cup of tea, but tgis level of hatred is unwarrented and frankly irrationally rediculous.

The name is also very significant. The duel decided Anakin's fate, in Qui-gon he would have had the father-figure and mentor he would have needed. Lucas has confirmed that had Qui-gon not died Anakin would have never fallen to the dark side. It is literally the two Fates of Anakin Skywalker dueling.

Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I have a huge attachment to this one, because I was 16 when it came out, and I had only been a Star Wars fan for about 2 years at that point. So I was really in a perfect position to enjoy it in that I was so hyped for new content, but hadn't yet formed too many of my own preconcieved ideas of what the Clone Wars or old Jedi were like, or how Anakin's fall was. I'm not saying there aren't some flaws with the movie (I can't stand the toilet humor, and Jar Jar needs to be dialed back a bit...although Jar Jar/Ahmed Best does have his share of fans!) but a lot of the backlash was that people really were not prepared to see Anakin as a cute little boy (and sadly the actor that played him got so much backlash and bullying over 'ruining Star Wars' that he had a legitamate breakdown and he's had a pretty rough time since then). People also disliked the political aspect but that's actually one of my favorite parts, especially because Ian McDiarmad (Senator Palpatine) happens to be the same actor who played Emperor Palpatine (it's kinda fun to watch this realizing you don't see that they are the same) and he is one of my favorite actors in Star Wars and I LOVED watching all his subtle manipulations. I have a degree in microbiology so I think the midichlorians are a cool concept but that's another thing people don't like, but I enjoy the idea of mixing science and mysticism. And, plus, people were kind of put off by the whole virgin birth thing as well as the revelation that the Jedi were a chaste order who were raised from birth, basically, and had an extreme stance on things like emotion/attachment (Lucas was very influenced by Eastern philosophy here). There were just a lot of things that were very different than what the general accepted fan canon had been. This movie has gotten some more appreciation in recent years, but everybody at least agrees that Darth Maul is awesome (if under used) and that Duel of the Fates slaps (it actually had a music video on MTV...I cannot even express how many people lost their minds over it and the double bladed lightsaber reveal in the trailer). I actually rank this one in the mid-upper level of SW movies. The next one is probably my least favorite, though.

Not many realize this but. When Qui-gon and Obi are fighting Maul, the music piece playing is "Duel of the fates" that means that they're fighting for the fate of Anakin. Had quigon lived, Anakin would have turned out to the light side.

The prequels are not as horrible as some, including myself, has said over the years. Honestly, when the prequels first came out I loved them because it was Star Wars and I was a kid. Every once in a while I'll revisit something and I'm reminded how much I would overlooked, forgave, or accepted because I was kid. I was more naive, open, and enthusiastic then. Less critical, cynical, and jaded. My taste, knowledge, and perspective has changed and even improved over the years but I'm an adult now and not a kid anymore. And when I watch something like the prequels I'm reminded of that and that part me misses that feeling. Cassie reminds that one is usually better off having a more optimistic, open, and enthusiastic attitude. She's an adult that can still show the positive outlook and hopeful qualities that I used to have more of. And I think that's something to be appreciated and why I'll keep coming back to this channel.

Sp here is why I disagree: Cassie's ambivalence about whether to root for Anakin is the whole ballgame- there is no protagonist in the prequels. You can't identify with the most terrible villain in movie history. And we don't get any real chance to have a feel for the personality of the rest of the cast who are generic and underdeveloped. There is almost nothing interesting, or profoundly moving in these movies, no hero, the only love story is one we don't want or care about. Making the prequels about Darth Vader was a disastrous choice, as if prequels to the LOTR were about Sauron from his childhood.

Ps, miticlorans are worse than anything in the sequels. In one tell swoop, the Force goes from being spiritual power that all living beings feel, are connected with and through, and generate, to a form of aristocratic exclusiveness. Star Wars ceased to have any spiritual meaning at that point, not something that could give meaning to our lives, our sense of brother and sisterhood to other beings and nature, but a genetic superpower for a select few. These movies are culturally disastrous.

It's the genuine part that seems lacking. There are only a handful of reactors that I can think of that I feel meet this simple criteria, and only one of them is a woman. The one I am thinking of is Sam from TBR Schmitt. Highly recommended channel. We all generalize, and we all hate to be part of a generalization. Humans, you know? Edit: The same can be said for very many male reactors as well though, so there's that. Edit 2: I can't post a response to the comment I replied to here, presumably because of all of the cursing I need to do it, so I'll try this edit. I regret this original comment in some regards, and I certainly regret taking the side of the original comment in regards to "females online". I was thinking more about female movie reactors, and I stand by my original comment in that regard. They are very lacking at best, aside from a select few. On the other hand, there are very many female music reactors who aren't "cringy", annoying, or fake, or rely on their beauty for views, and I will post them here as I recall them. Lex from Brad and Lex Tasha from The Adventures of TNT Sarah Dengler Amber from Rob Squad Reacts I'd also like to apologize to Trish for taking the side of an obvious bad guy, and empowering him to attack her.
