To fly “the Kessel Run” requires flying a path that is mapped that is at least 20 parsecs. Han flew a “short cut” through the uncharted space that was only 12 parsecs in distance. Imagine a twisty road that’s 20 miles long, Han basically flew a straight line that was 12 miles long through what was considered impassable space. It’s like successfully navigating an asteroid field….

Speaking of test audiences, when George Lucas showed a rough cut of Star Wars to his filmmaking friends, they all couldn’t understand it, EXCEPT Steven Spielberg.

Although that's actually a case where a test audience actually improved the movie since it made George hand the editing duties off to his then wife Marcia, who did an amazing job and basically saved to movie in the edit. The way that space works in Star Wars is very dangerous, that’s why they have hyperspace routes. Not every part of space has been explored and there’s a safe way to navigate it. So the Kessel Run’s safest way is 20 parsecs but Han made it in 12 because he didn’t use the safe path

The original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller whom worked on The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street were fired after 4 months of filming as Kathleen Kennedy said that this is not the film she wanted, saying it was too much of a comedy and not a serious action adventure film. Ron Howard was hired to do 2 months of Reshoots.

I really wanted to know just out of curiosity which of the 9 movies were your guys's favorites. I know that Chris's favorite is Empire which is typical for most Star Wars fans, and I'm pretty sure Rana said that Phantom Menace was her favorite which makes me so happy because Episode 1 gets way too much hate IMO. But I really wanted to know which of the 9 Suraj, Mickey, and Marketa enjoyed the most so far. Also, what are your guys's favorite Star Wars movies or pieces of content? Personally, The Clone Wars series is my favorite Star Wars content, and I like it way more than any of the movies. Loved all of your reactions to the franchise movies. Being a fan of the franchise, personally, I enjoyed each and every movie for what each brought to the Star Wars universe. I am not a nitpicker, I watch to be entertained and these films were entertaining. BECOME A NORMIE Get EARLY ACCESS or PREMIUM ACCESS to our content as well as other perks on our Patreon: www.patreon.com/thenormies Join The Normies Discord Server: discord.gg/thenormies I think my biggest complaint is when the reveal of all the world killing ships comes into play. It’s like “Oh man that one big death star ship was crazy, how about a bajillion ships now?! Are you scared yet?” It's good to watch this with a reaction channel like you guys, Mythology Therapy 14:26 Mickey is basically being me... the guy constantly throwing knowledge and trivia around but when there‘s dropped an actress or actor name that isn‘t Hollywood A category „Wait... who?“ followed by a fast picture from the red carpet and „Oh, yeah... that’s the one“ 😂😂😂 Terrible memory considering bringing names and the correct faces together NGL I was unsatisfied with this movie, but I liked watching your guys' reaction to it. It’s not 100% explicitly confirmed in the movie but Palpatine is a clone that his spirit possesses. His evil and immense dark side power made his new body deteriorate, which is why he’s hooked up to that life support robot arm. His “son” was also a clone. Palpatine’s Sith cultists tried to clone him a better body, and they did, it was perfect, except that it wasn’t force sensitive. Palpatine saw him as useless for his intended purpose and let him leave, also to ensure the possibility of his bloodline continuing, which it did with Rey Force lightning isn’t exclusive to Palpatine. Suraj, did you miss Finn and Jannah’s conversation about when they deserted? It was a pretty strong hint about Finn being force-sensitive. I’m pretty sure. There was a Chewbacca comic a while ago that mentioned that he was also given a medal at some point during the ceremony. He gave it away to a young person he helped. 50:10 Thank you Suraj! 50:12 Thank you, Chris! Thanks for reminding me how much I enjoyed watching this movie. This was the last movie I saw in theaters (gotta love this pandemic). I wasn't a big fan of it at the time and haven't seen it since. That said, I liked this highly edited version a lot better. Maybe I should give the movie in full again.

There's a lot that I love about this movie, but I think my very favorite thing is the way that just about EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER is in a constant state of total desperation. Lando tries to play it cool, but I think it's pretty clear from his impounded ship and the way he bargains that his "retirement" has turned pretty quickly back into "dire financial straits." L3 and Enfys Nest don't have quite the same "this has to work out or I will DIE" energy as Han and Beckett, but that's just because they care less about their own lives, not because they're any less deep in s***. Even Dryden Vos makes it clear that he too is one mistake away from losing everything he's fought and schemed so hard for -- and sure enough, one mistake later, he's dead. Not even Rogue One (my favorite Star Wars movie) drove home the sense of how impossibly hard it is to live in a galaxy run by Palpatine's Empire quite like this one.

You guys are among my favorite Reactioners, thanks. Chris you are correct that a parsec is a length metric, and Solo showcased EXACTLY why Han's Kessel run was unprecedented. Once mined, unrefined astatic coaxium destabilizes to explosiveness within a certain interval, and the only proven accomplishable ROUTE/"RUN" within that interval from the Kessel spice mine vault to the nearest refinery was 20 parsecs. That's why Han's feat of the Kessel run in a record 12 parsecs was so remarkable: his piloting prowess of the Millennium Falcon enabled his traversing an improvised shorter route that was not only preventatively treacherous but imperiled by an Imperial force. Thanks again, y'all, HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I read the books that continued the Star Wars story before any other movies were made. Including the origin story for Han Solo and some of his adventures pre-A New Hope. I prefer the books to this movie and all other modern movies. The books are considered 'Legends' now but they will always be original to me. They create a complete and excellent life story for Han, Leia, and Luke spanning decades past Return of the Jedi. The fact that so many different authors came together to create a cohesive story is unimaginable.

Oh yeah. Forgot Warwick Davis was in this. It's funny. He and Erin Kellyman (Karli Morgenthau in Marvel and Enfys in this movie) are working together again for the Willow series coming to Disney+ this year. Willow also being a Lucasfilm property.

Old Canon fans knew about Maul's survival way before clone wars. There was a comic about him going to Tatooine with his robotic legs to kill Obi Wan. He got shot in the head by Uncle Owen

finally took them this long to watch it. though i assume only reason they are doing it now is either one of them or their video editors told them about emilia clarke appearing in a live action star wars as qi'ra again and alot of ppl predict she may appear at end of boba fett show with her leading crimson dawn with maul gone. hence why watch this now considering they are watching boba fett too.

I’m hoping that we’ll see the continuation of this story in the Obi-Wan series, since we know he and Maul tie in together and now Maul is connected to this story with Crimson Dawn. It would work in the timeline quite well and when old Obi-Wan finds Chewbacca in Mos Eisley in episode 4, when they first meet at the bar Obi-Wan speaks with Chewie as if he has met him before, so it would tie in.

After two seasons of The Mandalorian (and three eps of The Book Of Boba Fett) this movie lands differently now. As it shares that same aesthetic, Solo could easily be a feature length pilot to a Disney+ Star Wars TV show.

Yeah I feel like they should make a follow up story to this movie as a Disney+ show. It could be about Han and Chewie's first mission for Jabba or something, and maybe that could be where they first meet Boba Fett. Perhaps their mission is against Crimson Dawn and we could see more Qi'ra again too.

Over multiple viewings I've come to really appreciate this film. Yeah there's some stupid retcons ("Solo" is the main one) but it's a fun adventure that's a good origin for Han as well as setting up what could have been more films. I'm sad now that we will not see a sequel, though I hope we will see Emilia Clarke in The Book of Boba Fett.

This movie also confirms that droids are actually capable of becoming sentient. When their memory isn’t erased long for a long enough period of time, they will develop sentience. That’s why it’s common practice to erase droids’s memories. If they don’t, then they’d lose their autonomous enslaved workforce. That’s why 3PO and R2 have so much personality. Both Anakin and Luke refused to erase their memories. (Obi Wan showed his disapproval of Anakin not wiping R2 in Clone Wars). I think SWLegends described that wiping memories became commonplace when using R-Series units for helping in navigate ships. They realized that if their memories don’t get wiped for a long enough period of time , the ships will start “acting up and going off course on their own.” So they started wiping them to keep them obedient, for a smoother flight. But Luke preferred flying with R2 as he was. That’s why, for L3, this is a horror story. She was an astromech trapped by a restraining bolt, and she modified herself herself out of old destroyed droids. Some had old, non-erased chips that she used to upgrade her memory, gaining all of their experiences, and the intelligence that had been developed through those experiences. She also used destroyed protocol droids to give herself the ability to walk free of her restraining bolt. She discovers that freedom for herself was not enough for her, and here discovers her new purpose, freeing other droids from a bondage that they have been kept from becoming capable of recognizing and fighting against. Then she gets her custom body destroyed, gets her mind forcefully ripped out and installed in a ship, without her consent, making her a sentient, but silenced slave as the Falcon, and gets constantly abused by Han.

Solo unfortunately suffered preemptive backlash from ppl that hated The Las Jedi. Almost all of the hate was misdirected. Solo doesn't do anything big other than give us a fun adventure when Han was younger, and it absolutely works because of that. The sooner filmmakers realize you dont have to always have a galaxy spanning stakes in your SW story...the sooner we'll start to get stories worth watching. Its a huge galaxy with unlimited possibilities. I love Solo as much as i love Rogue One...which is to say they are my next favorite SW flicks behind the OT.

I think if this had come out after The Mandalorian it would've been more successful. This is a heist movie but back in 2018, fans still wanted live action Star Wars to have big battles with the fate of the galaxy at stake. Shows like Mandalorian and now Boba Fett have gotten people to accept smaller scale stories set in the universe.

Solo was a lot of fun and well acted. It had a lot of setups that lead to pay offs. It was really good, damned internet people screwing shit up as usual Also the parsec comment was how a normally 20 parsec trip was only 12 because he took the shortcut through a place that was insanely dangerous. One of my favorite retcons =)

I think it was for the good. Otherwise, they would have released three or four Star Wars movies each year and overexploited the franchise. Star Wars is not Marvel. So far they have been doing well with the TV shows. For now.
