Episode #200 - Exploring A New Anchorage Hello Friends,
On this episode we haul up at Parson's Landing and have a perfect slow sail to Big Geiger Cove. We check out Doctors Cove on the way down and decided to keep moving.
Once at Big Geiger Cove we anchored in 20ft of water with 5 scope out and I rowed out our full stern ground tackle to the shore. With Triteia set into the low slow swell we settled in. The shoreside faculties belong to the Ocean Cruising Club and two of their members, also anchored in the cove in a beautiful 1988 Gand Banks, came over and welcomed us and said it would be no problem for us to go ashore and hike out.
Everywhere in California the beaches up to the high water mark are PUBLIC BEACHES... always remember that! There are NO PRIVATE BEACHES IN CALIFORNIA. But the land behind the high water mark at this location is a private lease and we thanked them for their hospitality.
After a hike up top we explored the rocky coasts by dinghy. Checking out the other anchorages and sea caves and enjoying the summer sun and light winds.If you enjoy our channel please "Like" the videos and Subscribe so you don't miss any future episodes.

My grandparents had a beautiful Grand Banks just like that one on the Chesapeake Bay. I visited them several summers and spent the week cruising around. Some amazing memories. Those folks appear to have a killer setup aside from the big gas bill!

Love the Catalina videos, such an incredible island just a few miles off the coast.

Think that was one of the scout camp boats there in Doctor's Cove James but still, I agree with you. Give some room. They teach scuba there in the cove. Cheers

Good morning James from Nz. Great episode. A good tutorial for anchoring. Thank you. Just a couple of Q+A. 1. Have you fixed the problem with the wind vane.? 2. And when are you going to resume your solo to Hawaii?? You may have covered those questions already. If that's the case, my apologies. I had problems with my computer and had to replace it. In the meantime, take care and stay safe. Atb from down under.

I would like to ask this time what kind and how big is your bow anchor. I'm assuming you are using all chain. Can you retrieve your bow anchor if your windless fails?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 3 жыл бұрын
My bow anchor is 45lbs attached to 300ft of 5/16 HT chain and 200 ft of 1/2 rope rode. Yes I can retrieve it by hand, however slowly. I usually haul up by hand until it because strenuous then use the manual windlass. I want to upgrade the windlass to a electric with manual option. I feel manual windlass can easily be a handicap if the crew gets injured.

Pretty much every protected spot for anchoring has been stolen by mooring balls where I live.
