The most fabulous quality film Ray. It appeared you walked them midges off after a time. One thing I noticed was the awesome colors in the granite mountains. Superb. Mark.

Hello Mark and thanks for watching. The wind picked up slightly and kept the little blighters at bay for a while. The mountains are spectacular and the film never shows just how good unless you are there. The light and cloud changes so often and the atmosphere it gives to the place at times you could almost touch. Atb Ray.

Renegade Scot Ray I can appreciate fully what you're saying. They create a visceral feeling that's very definitely the result of their presence. I think Nan Shepherd spoke of it. Fabulous! Well, good on the wind....it has its uses. Until next time all the best and happy exploring. Mark.

Me and my pals would climb and wander all over here in the early 80s, Could you imagine parents today letting their 14 yr old boys go camping in the Cairngorms for a fortnight without adult supervision?

Cheers Andy. Still laughing at your hairdryer session in your film. Nice walk through the Linn of Dee but maybe need to invest in a mountain bike for some of them as the walk to the starts are getting killer. Atb Ray.

Another great film of your trip Ray. Grand views and so well put together. Did this same route more or less about five years ago, it's a lovely part of The Cairngorms. Thanks for sharing. Mick.

Cheers Mick. There is something that draws me back to the Gorms for some reason. It is a place folks either love or hate. Most just go to get the Munros bagged and hate the long walk or cycle in to most of them. As I say I could spend weeks in there and be really happy. Atb Ray.

I'm enjoying all your excellent videos and the great scenery. A slip of the tongue at about 3-20, "altitude of 1037 years". I do it all the time. Looking forward to more videos of beautiful Scotland.

Thanks for watching. Does sound like that but its fine on my headphones. Need to get some decent PC speakers as my speech is not as clear as it should be. Too much Fife/Scottish accent coming through. Atb Ray.

Enjoyed that, 'cos I did Linn of Dee-Glen Derry-Loch Etchachan-Ben Macdui-Carn a Mhaim-and down the path you went up, to get back along Glen Lui past Derry Lodge, just a week ago Tue 26 June. No midges but lots of pesky flies. Almost recovered now!

Great stuff. The good old Cleggs seem to be getting worse than the midges. Had a few bites from them myself over my last few trips. Atb

Another great video. great scenery and vista's, its a shame about those little blood suckers, if it gets too bad I tend to wear a head net, and i don't care how stupid I look... Keep up the good work, and stay safe Ray. Glen.

Thanks Glen. Do carry a midge hood, but often don't wear it, but suffer later for it. Cold weather coming soon and looking forward to the hills over winter. Atb Ray.

Howdy Ray! Another great film with excellent filming and editing. I appreciate the time taken to shoot and edit your footage to a this high quality. Martin and I have never walked in the Cairngorms, something we must remedy! Your beautifully crafted film will inspire us, and I imagine many others, to visit these majestic Scottish mountains. Thanks for the upload. ATB, M&S Wicklow.

Hi Folks and thanks for watching as always. The edit time is getting longer and longer now as you know well from your own films. However do enjoy it and it keeps me out the pub, lol. The Cairngorms are magical and you would love it. Will post a link to a short film on the BBC I-Player that I think you would really enjoy. If you ever need any info or advice for a trip feel free to drop me a line. Atb Ray. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04tqk1n/secret-knowledge-the-living-mountain-a-cairngorms-journey

Quality video as always pal! really enjoyed it. Filming in 4K makes such a difference. The quality of your shots is amazing! Not sure my Mac could processes it though. I much prefer winter camping, no bugs and midges to contend with. Really good video though pal. ATB. Craig
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Craig. looking forward to the winter myself now, had my fill of midges. The 4K does make a difference and also allows you to do edits such as pan shots that don't degrade the footage that 1080p would. Atb Ray.

Thanks Pete. Some folks have all the luck in the midge department, lol. As said above not long now and we will see the back of them for a while. Did hear that eating liquorice sweets is meant to stop them bothering you. Never tried it yet but might just have to by a big bag to try. Atb Ray.

Great stuff Ray , i might risk a 4k effort next year lol. Beautiful vistas i was expecting to see Beinn Dorain on this upload. I'm going to take my tripod out for the first time in November !! This has been a quiet year for me and several things have been happening on a few of my trips that need to be changed next year. My fitness is poor but i still struggle up a munro but yes in winter fitness does become more of a safety issue. Also tolerance to discomfort and pain is important .....some people can't hack being in pain or uncomfortable. Roll on winter !!!
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Hi Eddie. Was going to be the Beinn Dorain film but my Removu microphone was playing up again so the sound is all over the place. Missing sections where I talk to camera. When I try and put together it just doesn't flow and looks all over the place. Might try and salvage it as I had stuff about the meet with yourself and Andy and also shots from the campsite. A quiet year?, you have been out more times that Bear Grylls, lol. Lots of great outdoor stuff to come from yourself and everyone else. Really looking forward to it. Atb Ray.

Great stuff. Very professional, I must think about an off camera mic. It was interesting to see your water source, I always go for moving water or large lakes (maybe no need?) What is your criteria for clean water, as you used a small pool. Good tip with the lucozade bottle. Thanks for sharing. Steve
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Thanks steve thats good praise coming from yourself. The external microphones do make a diffrence especially in windy conditions. Ponds like that will be fine up in the mountains. Remeber it is those small catchments of water that are then flowing off the side and making the waterfalls, etc. If you have had a lot of rain they are fine as long as you filter. Ponds sitting stagnant during the summer might be a diffrent matter though. The lucazade bottle has three uses. 1. drink on walk to keep energy up. 2. later in day use for water collection and storage. 3. use for waste water collection and then dispose of when I get home. Atb Ray.

Videos getting better and better 👍🏻 what's the tent you are using?
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Hello Lewis. The tent is the WickiUp 3 which is just the flysheet on its own. Purchased a Lux one person inner separate for it. If you check out my other films you will see an initial review I have done on it. Atb Ray.
@AlexKenn8 жыл бұрын
The film very much as your other videos. But for some reason you Ray not indicate the name of the operator? You can see how moving the camera. As a whole, also wonderful.
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex. It is all filmed by myself. Because I film in 4K it allows for me to zoom in slightly without affecting the image quality. I can then use pan and tilts in the software to add those effects.

HiGreat video.... I've enjoyed viewing your other vids to, very inspiring! ....interested to know have you found your ultimate tent and is it the WickiUp 3. I have a tarptent scarp 1 and stratospire 2 both great tents...I think you tried the scarp 1 how does it compare to the Wicki. I just took delivery of a Hilleberg Soulo (need to build up the muscle to carry it ) not used it anger yet.... need to stop buying tents but the Wicki looks so tempting after seeing your review of it Anyway keep up the good work !
@RS.Outdoors8 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce. So far the Wickiup has been the best tent I have owned so far. Weather ;) or not it will cope with a Scottish winter is another thing though. The main things I like so far are. The weight, easy to pitch once you get the hang of it. Fast to take down and pack away. Multi tie out points so doesn't flap as much as most tents. Massive space for one person and you can just unhook your single inner for more space when packing up, (note that you need to by inner separate but plenty from China or the Luxe one. Plenty space for getting changed, cooking, clothes admin. You are not cooped up like in a one man tent or doing a bum shuffle when packing. So far in high wind the tent has been really stable with only issue being the guylines buzzing. looking forward to trying it in the snow. :)

Hi Ray..For winter camping it looks pretty good....Chris Townsend gave it a good review the extra space onside is very welcome. I look forward to seeing how you get on with it in the winter....I think it might be on my xmas wish list to santa.

Thanks for watching. Very few people up in the Cairngorms due to remote location and distances you usually end up walking. Seen 3 people in the 24 hours I was there, 2 people on way in and one person on way out. If you do meet anybody they are most likely doing the same as yourself and of the same mindset. Atb Ray.
