I had ankle fusion surgery in May this year for severe Osteoarthritis mate.. 3 months non weight bearing then crutches for 4wks is hard work but it's the best decision I've made! No pain at all now just getting used to walking properly for the first time in 15 years lol.. Best advice I can give you is look at getting a knee walker (£130) it's like a kids scooter but for your knee and it'll save you dicking about with crutches! 👌 Good luck with it all mate!
