It's kind of sad to me that this is the current state of GMs, especially from a solo perspective. Every run has just devolved to non-stop ability and weapon spam, with so many ways to survive everything the game throws at you, there's no room for anything else. There's no need for strategy, zero need for safety, it's just run around and do whatever you want for the entire run, and you'll probably survive to get a clear. Couple this with the growing obsession of completion time being the only metric of success/interest for GM runs these days, it's become very boring to play. I know people found the initial release of GMs to be too slow and tedious, but we've gone way too far in the other direction. I miss when there was any forethought needed to get a successful completion, rather than how many abilities can I spam and enemies can I kill at once to get a faster clear... and this wasn't even on a meta or prismatic build, just the old-reliable Contraverse.
Mini-rant aside, hopefully one day there will be either a higher difficulty than Grandmaster, or changes in Frontiers will allow for some challenging gameplay.

Not saying this to disagree (I would’t dare to). But I have a more of a casual approach to gaming as a whole. And I appreciate it being a lot more mellow these days (I’m guilded x 12). Sometimes I feel the emphasis is too much on what the challenge would be, opposed to what would be most fun. I like to hang out with friends, have a giggle & shoot stuff. I’m full after a run if it takes 40 min. When it’s more bitesized I go in again and again and tend to play way more. I fully respect your perspective though. I feel like there should be a single outlet in the game to provide challenge to players, that isn't self-imposed. I don't want the whole game harder, in fact I want all other difficulties to be easier and more accessible. But having GMs being difficult and providing resistance to even the most veteran players is healthy for the hardcore players. Everything else should be more accessible, but having one single mode that difficulty is present for all players I feel is nice

@Esoterickk Thank you for the reply. I hear you. As mentioned, I fully respect your perspective. One thing I would be worried about is the rewards not being as accessable, which (for me) is an vital part of the loop. I completely agree on how it’s night and day in regards to how it used to be. I used to be as nervous as anything running a gm. Anarchy (as a reference) was nerfed for being too powerful, but now a single titan can melee through a whole gm in 8 min with his eyes closed. ✌️

If he was using Nezarec Sin then it would be even more brutal because that thing has like 200% Super Regen when void grandes are hitting and if you combine that with Velocity Baton then it's a super generate machine with Nova Warp. Velocity Baton is absolute bonkers OP with Demolitionist and Attrition Orbs.

You remember the Nightfall cards we used to have back in the day where you would select negative/positive modifiers and then do the run for a high score. I feel like that card could be implemented in GMs as a necessity and you select modifiers from it to make whatever kind of GM you want it to be. E.g a modifier that limits your abilities etc etc

I'm happy for the game to be easier and more accessible, as I've always agreed, but there also needs to a single outlet for the most veteran players to be challenged. All of the changes they've made to the game to increase difficulty has been to expert/master and base level of dungeons and raids, which I don't agree with. And at the same time they've then made GMs easier, which is a little strange. There should be at least one pinnacle challenge in the game for the most hardcore players to be challenged by. The rest can be as accessible as is healthy for the game

Im a casual player and Soloing GMs are pretty easy you just need the time. These KZbinrs and streamers probably die a bunch of times before uploading the right flawless video wich probably takes hours. A casual player doesnt have that kind of time. I would just hop in with my friend do 2 or 3 GMs wich takes like 2 hours and thats it im done.

When you're able to effectively facetank a majority of the enemies and get away with it with a lot of high end builds, in what's meant to be the hardest activity in the game, I don't think it's particularly healthy for the playlist. Prismatic Titan being the obvious example, but having 95%+ damage resistance while spamming nukes that destroy entire rooms have completely trivalised most encounters. There needs to be some sort of forethought and planning that should go into completing GMs, rather than the sole objective of "how fast can it be done". While I don't want the rest of the game to be harder, and I don't want to ruin fun, I feel like there should be a single outlet for challenging content that also can't be steamrolled by meta builds, and we shouldn't have to rely on self-imposed challenges to make it so

I definitely disagree about the ease of soloing gms, it is anything but free if you don’t have the spawns memorized. I’ve soloed a couple myself (not counting prism titan solos) and it’s incredibly easy to just get instakilled by something you couldn’t react to without foreknowledge. Prism titan is the outlier ofc cause it just trivializes pretty much everything, but aside from that I feel like soloing gms is appropriately difficult. I am happy they’re adding more randomness to spawns and stuff in the future cause that should make team runs more interesting

Garden Word GM is my favorite. A GM seal in pre-BL is a triumph. Nowadays, it is a speed run to see how long I can complete the seal before moving on to something else.

I think if GMs were any harder they need to start giving the ability to focus at least one specific perk per weapon drop, cuz I am not farming insanely hard GMs for rolls on weapons if it's taking me 45 minutes or more per run. I dont think ability spam is the issue. I think its how easy and strong health regen and damage resistance is currently that is the problem. I think a lot of the things that grant full heals need to nerfed to either have cooldowns or only grant partial heals. Abilities are fun. Having your guns and abilities interact with eachother is also very fun. Never having to worry about any of the hits you take mattering gets boring.

Ive learned that if a game starts to feel boring its because you are looking at it more as a job than a game. The goal of gaming isn't to get rewards and be challenged It's to have fun. Whenever the experience stops being fun for you it's time to move on to something else.

@Esoterickk but that could also just be a sign of you hitting your absolute peak. I've seen a lot of your remnant videos before. And that's a great example when you first start out on remnant or your doing a hardcore for the first time, it's scary. almost every boss can end a run instantly. But by the time you reach the end game you can stand directly in the middle of the arena against the hardest boss in the game on the hardest difficulty, and just not die. And anyone can hit that point The build isn't even that hard to get and is brain dead easy to use. There also comes a point when you just have to accept that Destiny is never really going to improve or reach the level that people want it to reach.

I understand your feelings on GMs being easy right now but even in this run you're basically "plinking" but not with bullets. Almost the entire GM is hitting with DOT effects and then going behind cover while DOT does its thing. This is basically plinking of old GMs, but with different gear doing the plink. To further that you have Anarchy on, a very old weapon that is the ultimate plinker. Prism Titan is definitely an outlier, but other than that, you still had to plink for the whole run since its solo, and thats not really a huge change to the moment to moment gameplay, other than the plinking is more cqc this current sandbox because GLs are cracked.

I mean, the very beginning section is completely contrary to what you're saying. In the past you'd never be able to just spam GL shots with Devour and survive all of the enemies at the beginning. You'd orbit in a second. Similarly, while some parts you need to use cover (obviously), a lot of the time it's just use of terrain while still staying in LoS of the targets most of the time. Prismatic Titan is certainly an outlier, but every single build has become more potent and has the ability to survive most head on fights that you'd never previously even be able to look at twice

I don't understand anyone saying GMs are easy. For you maybe. I'm not drastically underpowered, using incorrect resistance mods, or acting simply stupid in my attempts and I still get two tapped at T10 resilience to things like snipers off in the distance before I can kill them. Been playing since D1 launch, I'm not just unfamiliar with the game. And I still can't even do a solo expert nightfall, let alone a GM, before I think to myself "I'm on run number 4 and this is already just annoying". Maybe y'all are just especially good at pve idk.

The GM skill gap isn't aim or cracked movement or mechanical skill. The GM skill gap is knowledge. Everyone that thinks GMs are easy knows where every Champion and dangerous add spawns and when, for the entirety of the Strike. Not a single content creator uploads runs of them playing "reactively" and at most you'll see a small handful of minor mistakes they correct, but overall it's extremely similar. If you are struggling in a Nightfall and DO wish to attempt to improve, knowledge is all you need to work on, since I'm sure your mechanical skill is enough for GMs in the current sandbox.

@@BrokeandFamousPR They ARE hard. What you are seeing here is an extremely good PVE player who has countless of runs on his back already. There are many ways to approach this GM though. I remember skipping the two taken overload champs at the beginning as well as the two unstoppable phalanxes in the Ascendant Plane by not going up the stairs, killing the Big Ogre in the Ascendant Plane first. This GM was tough, now it's relatively manageable due to many different damage reduction starts, crazy Super Regen strategies, Anarchy being unstoppable effective this season...

The only time you'll get 1 tapped at full health is if a Scorn Raider shot bugs out, or you're running 0 resil and 0 resist mods. Without those, every single sniper will take at least 2-3. Nobody is lying, and you can compare the progression of GM runs over the years as evidence of them becoming much easier than before. Along with further changes like increasing the power level we can be in them

Yeah. So I don't know what the point of your so-called "mini-rant" really was. You solo all, and do it well. If you're bored with GM's, by all means, move on to other games. Which I think you have. But I find this rant a tad insulting, as a lot of us find soloing GM's challenging. Not all of them, certainly not, but Inverted Spire/Liminality (for me personally) has been difficult. Plus I don't seem to have the amount of time you have to play Destiny 2 at leisure....must be nice.

There's no offense intended, nor is there any needed. The point is to express how I'm feeling about GMs, which right now is not great, and many people agree. While some may be difficult for you, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's widely accepted among similar challenge players that the GM playlist has become stale and lacks the challenge it once did. This is also evident by changes they've made to actively make the GM playlist easier, while making lower level content more difficult, which doesn't make sense.

Of course it's easy when you play for a living. Gsmes are meant for entertainment and recreation, not to be a second job...hell more demanding than a real job in MMOs with endless grinds and shit drop rates and success rates for rewards. You want challenge? Go enhance 6 DEC Kharazad accessories and both Sovereign weapons in BDO no crons. Get all Obliterating Armors as well and get every treasure item. I look forward to that video. I play destiny with my friends as a break from games that punish you for trying to progress and you people want the game to be harder when its playerbase is dropping like flies.

I think the difficulty of the GM isn't that bad, the problem is the power creep. They kinda just ruined the game with prismatic subclass, exotic class items and OP braindead weapons like these area denial GLs.

It's absolutely not though. The game is undeniably easier than ever, for what's meant to be the "hardest" content the game has to offer. I don't think that the whole game needs to be harder, in fact I'm all for making everything other than GMs easier (and have said that many times). But GMs are meant to be the hardest content in game, and you shouldn't be able to survive the amount that you currently can. This is evident when you have the WR for speed being only a little over a minute faster than the WR for solo speed, it goes to show how powercrept we are, particularly for solo. Especially if you're on something like a Titan, you can spend the entire time being hit by absolutely everything while you have endless consecrations giving you 95% damage reduction while nuking entire rooms

@@EsoterickkThat’s a prismatic titan thing. I mean yeah you can still solo gms on other classes but they are still challenging as you still need to use weapons and know the GM. A good challenge would be liminality oscillation on prismatic warlock or hunter.

The state can’t change because we have been power crept to oblivion … if they change anything like reducing ability uptime or nerfing guns people will complain because that will make people less powerful .. that’s why sunsetting was a good thing but they got rid of that .. the only thing that can help is a total reset of the game with destiny 3
