Solo Hiking & Camping Australia - Hiking the Mamang Trail

The Mamang Trail in Western Australia is an out-and-back hiking trail that is usually done as an overnight camping trip. I decided to hike the trail solo and camped at the provided camp site ~15km from the start of the trail. You can hike through the bush both ways or mix it up on your return and dip your toes in the crystal clear water. I was constantly pinching myself as I was fortunate enough to see twelve whales as I hiked the trail (I’d never seen one before!). Overall, I would honestly rate this as one of the best overnight hikes you can do in WA, although it is a ~6 hour drive SE of Perth. For the most part it’s relatively flat & I feel like this trail would be achievable no matter what your fitness level.

Hi josh, love the video! You really inspired me to start overnight hiking with the cape to cape video. Two weeks later I had all my gear and set off for an overnighter at mt. Cooke. Thanks so much, means the world to me knowing that! I personally use the Garmin InReach Mini and have found it hard to fault. I guess the only downside is that it’s ~$500 and then on top of that you need to pay a minimum monthly subscription of $20 to use it. Definitely not cheap but can’t put a price on safety imo

Awesome video, can I ask... is this trail near the Hakea trail? Or seperate? Beautiful part of the world, my grandparents live in Hopetoun close by... I have done part of the Hakea trail when visiting them but not the full thing... it is definately on my bucket list. Also, the climb on East Mt. Barren, especially early morning to see the sunrise, it amazing.. incredible views.

Mamang is separate to the Hakea Trail, although I believe it is possible to link the two but you need to know what you’re doing. If you get the chance I’d try knock them both out, they’re equally as good as one another imo!

I'm just back from doing the Hakea trail based on your video of the hike---I loved it...must have only seen 5 people the whole time I was in Fitzgerald River National Park and less on the trail--it was amazing. No water unfortunately but not a huge deal in my opinion - Just got to pack an extra litre or so for the walk back and you’re all set! Now you’ve got an excuse to go back ;)
