Thanks for sharing Elli the scenery in the Alps is absolutely stunning and the walk pathways looks like they are well looked after, the last bit was breathtaking and I can see why didn’t take Otto with you although it was a bit strange seeing you walk without him 🙂 I just wondered how do the mountain huts you stopped at get their supplies ?
@ellihikes15 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for following along, that means so much! Most of the alpine huts that are situated higher than ~1500m are only accessible on foot. Supplies are mostly either flown in by helicopters a couple of times each season (which is the case for this hut) or have their own little ‚cable car‘ with a small basket where supplies can be transported up and down. Either way it’s quite a bit of effort, so prices for food/drinks etc. do reflect that….

@ thanks Elli I suppose when you are in such remote areas you don’t mind paying a bit more for snacks etc 😀 I’m looking forward to watching more of hiking videos 🙂

Still watching the video, but popping in the comment while I remember: regarding the protein drink - if you prefer clear lemonade-like ones, look for BCAA. It's basically the same thing, just broken down to amino acids. It's actually a good idea to take it on a hike, will be stealing this one ))

I've only skied in the Alps, never climbed, but that looks about the limit of what I'd attempt.I've done quite a lot in the Pyrenees, which are my favourite mountains in the world (or at least the ones I've visited!), including a few 3000m+ peaks but only one with fixed ropes, like that. A spectacular hike and very different from your UK trips. And it was interesting to compare the mountain hut with a Scottish bothy or Youth Hostel.

Thank you for sharing and for following along! Yes, quite different from my other hikes that I documented so far. I used to mainly hike in the Alps (just because they are so close to where I live and easy to get to without long travels), but the season is obviously quite short higher up, the terrain often times more technical and too tough for Otto and also harder to stay in huts with Otto. And the UK just has my heart I guess ;)

Wow, what a hike! Climbing the Zugspitze sounds like such an epic adventure, especially solo. The views must’ve been insane, and spending the night in a mountain hut before tackling the summit sounds like the perfect way to break it up. Can’t beleive you did over 2400m of climbing in 24 hours, that’s intense! Thanks for sharing the journey, totally inspiring me to get out there and hit some trails myself. Cheers!

It really was a great hike :) Really happy that I got all these views in the morning, it was so beautiful :) I love staying in mountain huts, there's this special, comfy, remote vibe to it. I always have the best night sleep there 😍 Definitely could feel it in my legs afterwards, but it actually wasn't too bad and a good exercise 😅😇

What a beautiful place! How amazing to have all that so close to your home! Do they let just anyone go up those ladders to the top??? I couldn't tell if they had harnesses or not, but it sure looks like someone could fall to their death if they weren't skilled and careful!
@ellihikes2 ай бұрын
It really is stunning, the views are incredible - mountains as far as the eye can see. Yes, there are signs saying that you go up to the cross at your own risk - but everyone can climb up there and no one has a harness - which isn't really needed imo if you're not afraid of heights and used to more technical terrain. But the thing is that people who went up with the cable car in sneakers and sometimes even flip-flops (!) go up that last bit who don't have the experience and just seem to challenge their luck. I'm honestly surprised that there aren't more accidents....

My wife and I with my daughter and son in-law took the cable car up the Zugspitze 25 years ago. Beautiful views, sledding on my jacket and such foolishness. We had goulash at the top food kiosk and my wife’s goulash was “bombed” by raven splashing all over her. The rest of us had a great time.

I've become so accustomed to you skipping between the haggis and the midges that I was ready to ask whereabouts Germany is in Scotland. Another excellent one Ellie - thank you. I haven't been much to Germany, it always looks so beautiful so I will have to address that some time. I always think it must feel really weird to struggle all the way to the top through your own endeavour and then stumble out into the middle of the coffee and cake brigade.

What a beautiful hike, so lovely. In the beginning, you used your phone to pass through a gate, was this for going up the trail?
@ellihikes2 ай бұрын
Thank you for following along, I really appreciate that! There is an entrance fee for the small section through the gorge (for maintaining the gorge) and I had the online ticket on my phone to access the gorge :) But the hike itself can also be done by avoiding the gorge (you can go around to avoid the fee) and the rest (after the first 1.5km) is of course free :)

I only realised how well all the different blue color variations went together when editing the video 😅😍 my boots are from Scarpa, I think they are the Zodiac Tech..... Do you need Via Ferrata material to go to the top? I don't think you used it, but I thought it was obligated. Great achievement, well done!
@ellihikesАй бұрын
There are several routes to the top, two of them (one via the Höllental Glacier and the other one via the Wiener Neustädter Hütte) are Via Ferrata Routes where you'd want to take the appropriate equipment. The third one (I hiked in this video) only has a couple of sections similar to easy via ferrata elements (cable to hold on to) where you don't necessarily need the equipment. Most people, especially when used to hiking on exposed terrain in the Alps, don't take it for that route...
