Thank you so much for checking out another Solo Play Sunday! Today I'm using a solo mode I based off of Ricky Royal's solo mode for the original Azul and tweaked for its sequel, Azul: Stained Glass of Sintra! It's such a puzzly and quick solo game and I've enjoyed my many solo plays of it!

Thank you for making these solo play videos. They are really useful if I consider buying a game, and also if I wonder how to understand details of the rules, how to solo a game (or if a game even _can_ be “soloed”). I have only watched a few of your videoes, but I’ll come back for more. 👍😊 I commented about Azul solo rules last week, and this week, I am thinking of a way to make the Azul solo game even less predictable (and thus more difficult). You can tweak the “Box of Delights” rules to the BoardGameDave rules, (which was to roll a die to choose between equally sized sets from all factories instead of going from the leftmost factory to the rightmost), but you can roll between all the largest and all the second largest groups of sets. So if there is one set of three and two sets of two, you roll to choose randomly between these three sets. After all, your opponent would not always just go for the largest set.

Hey there, Dorthe! Thank you so much for commenting again! ☺️ I like your idea of making the AI a little less predictable for these Azul games! The current AI is definitely aggressive but sometime if you know exactly what the AI is going to do on its turn you can mitigate that and it's not as fun! Let me know how you end up tweaking the solo AI-maybe I'll give it a try soon!

My third solo playthrough of an Azul game! (I actually don’t have a solo variant for Summer Pavilion… I’ll have to start thinking about that one!) You’re right; this is my tenth Solo Play Sunday! It’s nice of you to keep track! ☺️ Hope you enjoyed it!

Fantastic initiatives Dave. Big, big love from me! ❤️ This is the first time I see a game of Azul: SGoC. The vanilla Azul is definitely not my game, but this one looks very enjoyable. Maybe I will give the series another shot. This videos are a beautiful way to end the week (or start the next one). Have an excellent week Dave.

This game rivals the beauty of Sagrada IMO. I must say we do appreciate these solo Sunday plays. Not really paying attention before but doing this for charity purposes and helping entrepreneurs is very kind deed. Hope you'll do a solo of A Feast for Odin, hehehe. Imagine the amount of setting that game of a beast but I think my wish seems to be a tall order 😂. Nice playthrough as usual!

Oh, I definitely agree! I really love the colors and the translucence of the pieces, just like in Sagrada! ⛪️ Thank you for your kind words; I’m glad you enjoy the Solo Play Sundays! It’s a fun way to support charities and aspiring entrepreneurs! A Feast for Odin would be fun, but I wonder if it would be more practical to play on BGA just for visibility’s sake? Would you be less inclined to watch a digital playthrough?

@@BoardGameDave the BGA version is actually neat. I'm actually surprised how they manage to port it there never realizing before since I keep on playing Agricola (which as to date is still notoriously out of print in my country at least) in BGA, then I realize it's actually commonly possible (Tabletop Simulator my friends? 😅).
@BoardGameDave
@BoardGameDave 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, BGA seems to always do a good job implementing even heavy board games for online play; I’m looking forward to trying it out! Agricola isn’t available on BGA, is it? Have you been playing it on Tabletop Simulator? (I much prefer BGA to TTS since the actions are automated and the games move so much more quickly!)
@popgas3821
@popgas3821 2 жыл бұрын
@@BoardGameDave Agricola is available in BGA, check it out. It's pretty efficient and cleanly adopted. I prefer BGA as I can't speak fully yet about TTS. One of my coworkers actually uses it and tried some games and it kind of felt barren for him. BGA is pretty popular and you'll never run out of people to play with hence I'm more inclined to just stick to BGA for now. I don't mind AFFO actually on BGA, especially if its for the charity! ❤👍
@BoardGameDave
@BoardGameDave 2 жыл бұрын
@@popgas3821 I will give Agricola a try on BGA sometime; I don't know how that slipped my radar! (I've only ever played Agricola on the app so it'd be refreshing to play against real players!) Yeah, there are a lot of games on TTS but you sort of need to have people who have the app and are trying to play a game together; BGA is much faster and you can be playing most any game within minutes! It's certainly my preferred platform! And I'll keep that in mind about AFFO... I'll take any excuse to play that game again! 😉

I've never played Mandala Stones although it definitely looks like the kind of game I would enjoy! ☺️ Is there an official solo mode? BGG is telling me that it's for 2-4 players, although I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one fan-made solo variant out there!

Haven't gotten to play this version, looks great! Quick question about the AI, at 15:40 you've got the 3 pinks and 2 blues. Does it always go for pairs or does it go for the highest number?
@BoardGameDave
@BoardGameDave 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, I love this version of Azul! And great question: it’s looking for sets from the factory tiles first, then if there aren’t any sets there, the biggest set in the center pile! So it wanted the two blues! 👍🏼 Thanks for checking out the video!

(Third time trying to write this comment, buy Y o u T u b e keeps deleting them 🤨 Let's try one more time...) Congratulations for the high score, Dave! 🥳 Sintra is the only Azul I've not tried yet (played both classic and Summer Pavilion, while Queen's Garden is gonna come out next month here in Italy). I really enjoy abstract-puzzle games, and the fact that you can predict AI's moves makes this solo version quite interesting and strategic. I was recently introduced to The Trevor Project by "Trevor - The musical" on D i s n e y +. Nice show, great initiative. And it's so thoughtful of you to spread awareness and entertain at the same time. I'll definitely make a d o n a t i o n myself 😊

Hey there, Marco! I appreciate your persistence in trying to leave a comment; that's happened to me before on a Dice Tower video so I know how frustrating that can be! I really enjoy this iteration of Azul and you're right that the solo variant lets you plan in advance almost perfectly since you can figure out what the AI is going to do (unless it comes down to the roll of a die)! I think you'd enjoy this game (and the original Azul) solo a lot! Queen's Garden is lovely and feels very different than the other Azuls but it's certainly a step up complexity-wise and is more unpredictable with tiles being added during the round instead of just at the beginning of each round! I hadn't known about the musical; I just watched a trailer for it on their website! Thank you for introducing me to it! And I appreciate the kind words and your willingness to make a donation of your own! 😊

@@BoardGameDave I'm a little on the fence with Queen's Garden. I saw a couple of videos online (including your solo version 😉) and I like how they went for something VERY different. I usually enjoy tile placement games and somehow it reminded me of a more complex "Calico". Also, I don't mind tactical games, but I'm not sure about the tiles being drawn during the round, it adds a lot of randomness (again, don't mind a little of alea, but maybe here is a bit too much for me), but I definitely like the idea of matching both colours and shapes. P.S. I had the chance to try Teotihuacan, with a couple of expansions too, and I really enjoyed it (and not just because I won 😜)! Many actions to perform, but once you get into it, it flows quite easily. Really liked the idea of collecting/having to pay cocoa based on the number of dice, the variable force of the actions, and the ascension of dice when they reach 6. It reminded me in certain ways of Tabannusi, but way more polished and streamlined, without too much stuff that just overcomplicate things. Thank you very much for the advice! 😊
@BoardGameDave
@BoardGameDave 2 жыл бұрын
@@marcodissa It's certainly something VERY different and it's true that there's more randomness and less ability to plan ahead, but it's absolutely worth trying if you get a chance! Then you can buy your own copy if you find that you really enjoy it! 😊 And I'm so glad that you got to play Teotihuacan! So good, right? (I actually haven't played with any of the expansions; I enjoy the base game plenty as is!) I've actually looked into Tabannusi a LOT (and was extremely close to buying it recently) but I feel like Teotihucan is the superior game and there are enough similarities that I don't feel like I need to have both in my collection! Thanks for keeping me posted and I'm so happy you had fun with it... and won!
