Interesting review. Didn't know Frostgrave got a solo book. I liked Frostgrave when I read it but didn't like the wargame experience when played on the table. But I can see the appeal of playing it solo. Now I have to decide if I'll get Perilous Dark. I didn't solo role-play much since August. The cold months are back I might get the inclination to start again. Glad to hear your mother is doing well. All the best.

Making your own rules is a good idea but I don't know how you found it,it is hard going at times but enjoyable, I suppose it's down to how in depth you want it.

I think the actual key is balancing crunch with storytelling and leveling which are the three things I think people are most interested in.

Is there a reason why a person would choose frostgrave solo instead of rangers?

Personal tastes....some people like playing wizards over rangers.

Both games are comprised of a very similar rule set. Rangers is a lot more story driven. It has skill checks similar to dnd/pathfinder. Frostgrave is more of a fast paced loot the treasure game. Both are amazing.
