I spent 2 weeks in Albania in April and I can’t wait to go back. Favorite spot in Tirana is a laid back bar called Hemingways Jazz Club. Cool vibe and friendly bar cat. Fell in love with Korce (spent every night at Saiko cocktail vibing on the wonderful music), Gjirokaster (the hike to Ali Pasha bridge was amazing), Berat was indescribable and Durres was wonderful as well. Looking forward to more of your series!

Ciao from Torino 🇮🇹 Italia

In early 1993, not long after Enver Hoxha's reign, I spent 3 months in Tirana, teaching management courses at the university. A very interesting and adventurous time! @@oscarbosio9881 Albania is completely the opposite of its bad reputation. The whole country, not only Tirana, it is one of the safest countries in Europe, better than London or so more other big European famous destinations. Street crime in Albania doesn't exist and to tell you the truth it didn't exist even when people were dirt poor in the beginning of the 90-s. There are no dodgy or unsafe areas to go anywhere in Albania. You can enter not rich areas and it will be completely safe. With such a massive automatic guns in the hands of population, it is way safer than you would think. Mafia solves their own problems in their own way without involving normal people in the streets, let alone tourists and furthermore they are not in Albania. They are around Europe and America where the big money is. Albanians don't go for little money to get caught and get ashamed of. It is a disgrace for an Albanian to beg and steal pocket money. The only ones who you might take an eye on are the gypsies. They beg and pickpocket in our streets. What I like the most in Albania is the quietness, peacefulness and the good life without big crowds. Albania is not a densely populated country. You have a peace of mind there, enjoying good food and touristic places without annoying crowds. I hate crowds. I can't breathe in between them. I live in London and rarely go to Central London as I feel suffocated.......
@oscarbosio98812 жыл бұрын
Saludos.
@liljanasufaj41302 жыл бұрын
@@oscarbosio9881 Albania has problems with corruption within the country or drug trafficking in higher levels internationally mainly, but I dont think this is just an Albanian problem. You got Spain, Holland, Italy, England etc who have way bigger drug problems than Albania itself, but they tend to overlook Albanian mafia rather than theirs. Anyway, this doesn't involve normal life in Albanian streets. Albania has a strong culture and very tough traditional laws. Albanians use revenge as part of their traditions. So, if you touch someone's child or woman, you pay with your life and if you are hiding, than the men of your extended family will pay for it. So, in Albania women walk safely every where night and day, children play safely on their own all around the town as nobody dares to harass a woman as you never know who her brother, her dad or her cousins are. You may end up in very deep trouble which you may pay it with your life....... Street gangs don't exist in Albania. Nobody has ever heard that someone has been beaten by drunk or drugged people in the streets. You can walk everywhere at every hour of the night and nothing won't happen to you. Also, according to our traditional laws, hospitality is very special in Albania. If someone knocks in your door, you open the door, give the person a shelter, food and safety and make sure that he is safe to follow his own way without any problems, so the tourists are taken care of and if you are in trouble just ask for help and you will see a bunch of people surrounding you to protect you from any danger. This is Albania. It's different from Western Europe and that makes it unique and exotic.... So, its not the police upholding the law in Albanian streets, its the society itself who keeps order and everybody obeys it. Because people care less for police and government rules, Albania gives the idea that the country is lawless, but they have no idea that our customary laws are way more stricter than government rules......

Hi Syifa. Good video intro to Tirana and Albania. Albania has been on my bucket list for about 50 years, since, when I first started traveling, and quite naive, I was turned away at the border. I had looked at the map, and figured the shortest route from Yugoslavia to Greece was through Albania. Little did I know that I would not be permitted to pass. Is English widely spoken there? I saw that your conversation with the "juice lady" was in English.
@SyifaAdriana2 жыл бұрын
Hello Len! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your travel experiences.. I think Albania is now a much more laid-back with an easy entry regulation. My Indonesian passport is just always a tricky on to travel with. As long as you have got an active and used UK/EU/US visa, you are good to go. Alternatively, you can apply for an e-visa here e-visa.al/. English is spoken by many young generations in Tirana but in comparison to other countries in the Balkans, Albania would probably have the least amount of English-speaking people.
