This short trip was a nice break from the daily winter experience. There is something different about the wintertime when you are intentionally outside and appropriately dressed for the experience. Dare I say it might be lovely?
I camp and hike in and around the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I'm also building and enjoying an off- grid cabin in the woods with my partner Cory and the kiddos Nora and Ethan! I love sharing the journey with you!
Thank you for supporting my channel :) :)

Awesome video. It's how I live everyday. Beats the city anyday and it's very rewarding. I read comments and it's hard to believe how soft humans have gotten. Good for you.on living and not just surviving. Sincerely from Southwest Montana

Cool video showing camping in the snow. Made it to Gunflint Lodge last month from Louisiana. Had to mention that I watch your videos to our sleigh driver😁😁

I think you're right about this winter being more gray. Maybe not literally, but I've definitely been struggling with motivation and energy this winter, more than the last few winters.

Hi, lovely videos 😊 Do you hunt? I think many of us would love some hunting videos from an outdoors lady.

You’re so inspiring Jodi!! I want to winter but have not worked up the courage yet. But I am thinking about doing an overnight camp at Glacial Lakes State Park next month! I’m itching to be outside in nature again sooooo bad! 🏕️

I had the itch too. Once I had the idea in my head to go camping without the big hot tent, I couldn't stop thinking about it until I tried. Glacial Lakes would be a fun one. I think they have cabins there too? If I'm not mistaken. I have been wanting to try staying in a cabin at a state park in the cold weather. Or a yurt!

@@jodimiddendorf They do have cabins! Every time I looked up cabins at the nearer state parks on the days that work for me, they were already take. 😑 Same with the yurts! Glendalough has yurts, but I could of swore another state park has some too… or I’m dreaming one does haha Staying in a yurt is high on the bucket list 🤙🏻 I thought Glacials would be a good test run! Although now it’s in my head to get that little cook stove and kettle you have! Haha

Suggestion…. Get a used cheap canoe to fit all things and it should be easy to pull on snow! 💁‍♀️why not?

haha this is something I could see myself doing. I need another excuse to get another canoe..

I’m curious if you’re sleeping pad and sleeping bags stayed dry all night. I’ve always wondered if my summer tent could work in the winter
@jodimiddendorf

Good Question! My tent floor did not get wet. My sleeping bag and sleeping pads were dry. If it was around or above 32 Fahrenheit it might have been a different story. Not Sure.

@@jodimiddendorf good to know thank you! I also live in Minnesota but every time I go winter camping it’s usually in my pop-up ice house that doesn’t have the flooring part of the tent.

Camping by yourself really and truly how safe is it really ? maybe it's a cultural thing,. but black women we don't do stuff like go camping by OURSELVES, unless we're packing a Wesson , other than that there's going to have to be a door with a lock somewhere? Although it's beautiful to camp alone soul searching etc. but there's people that hang out or live in the woods and looking for a Crime of opportunity to victimize a women. It's equivalent enticing a bear by pouring barbecue sauce over your body and serve yourself up to a bear

Fear much?😂😂🤣
@jodimiddendorf
@jodimiddendorf Жыл бұрын
I can understand this fear to an extent. However, I am not going to require myself to have someone else present at all times. I am okay with the risk of human or nature danger while alone. I do things to protect myself and never share my location or plans with people I do not know well. But there is risk in a city, in farm country, in the woods, everywhere really… And I can accept that. To me, the risk of being alone in nature is worth it 100%. If you feel differently then cool, I hope you have some awesome people to camp with. ☺️
