Within the last two years I divorced, sold my house, and quit my job because I wanted to live life - to see America, live In nature, meet new people and travel. It’s been slow going because it is scary but hiking has been my church to get me through the rough patches. So it has been my dream to backpack a long hike and then today I came upon your video for the first time and saw the similarities. My dream has been to go through trail towns and live by my own means of the land and travel. I’m halfway there and I am hoping make my dreams a reality. I’m so glad I came across your channel. It’s very encouraging to know there’s other people out there who feel the way that I do.

Hiking is dangerous. Find out which parks are safer. Alone is dangerous. See how many hikers die each year. Some short hikes are dangerous as well. Get a satellite thing to carry to let ppl know if you may get in trouble. God bless you.

I've just watched this, and realised that I'm not alone - just socially conditioned to believe that I am. 49, recently divorced, rented a student apartment for 6 months, and thought "what now?". The thought of renting a flat or little house either in the city or out in the country did nothing for me -- nothing at all. A chance conversation led to me buying a 45-year old fiberglass river boat. Six months later still, and I've finally just moved onto it. It feels as if my life's adventure has finally begun. I wish you peace and good luck on your own adventure, and I'm now about to watch all your other videos! :)

53 year old here, I've worked 6 days a week my entire adult life at a truly physical job. Age is catching up to me. For the investment you've made in your RV, I would be in bliss, even with the repairs. Repairing an older single family home is probably far more expensive in the long run, and you can never keep up. If you don't have kids to raise, why is anyone killing themselves? Take it easy, and enjoy your limited time here in your pilgrimage here on earth. I love you, and I am happy to have found your channel.

Hi Carolyn, my son Keith started his first long term RV adventure recently. In a conversation with him today, I asked him where he was getting certain information about RVing. He told me about your U tube site and here I am. Keith is from Montana but right now he is somewhere in CA. I have not ever seen him so positive and relaxed. Thanks for your effort in making these informed videos to help people conquer the challenges of first time RVing. I enjoyed viewing the first video and I will be viewing more soon. Blessings to you and safe travels.

Just looking back on your journey and so glad you took the time to share it and your beautiful Capone with us. You said everything that I've been feeling for a long time. I too have felt trapped. A couple years ago I called my apartment a rat cage. I had, had two pet rats at the time and for a cage it was pretty big and my cat...and I loved to sit and watch them. One day I looked at my cat and said well at least you're not in a cage. Then I looked around my tiny apartment and said hmm actually yes we are huh. Before that though I had been feeling trapped and felt like all my job paid for was the bills just to survive. I wasn't really living, just existing. Until I really totally accidentally stumbled on to these videos I didn't know that there were actually others who felt the same way.

I am a retired Ford Engineer who worked on designing engines and transmission during most of my career. I am also a very part-time RVer. I going to give you a couple of quick tip on your rig. Watch carefully for rain water leaks. If you have wet spots on the floor after a rain, you have a serious problem. Serious enough that it could damage things beyond repair. Typical water intrusion is around skylights, A/C units, roof/wall seams and around windows and doors. DO NOT IGNORE WET FLOORS. First, the chassis of Tillie, a Ford E350 is one of the best on the road. I am glad to read that your breakdowns and repairs have not been too expensive and that you will longer ignore those lights we put on the dash ! I have the baby brother to Tillie, a '98 E150 so I am familiar with that rig. When it is convenient and you have a recommended repair shop, get your front end aligned. This is important because it affects tire wear and handling, especially on the highway. Before they do the alignment, they will check to see if you need parts. This could get expensive. Fully rebuilding the "front end" could cost over $1000. Bite the bullet (again), get it done and request the best quality parts (I prefer MOOG on my van). I don't know what the did on your rear brakes, but you should be saving up to do a FULL rear brake job. Brakes that old DO tend to just "fall apart". Depending where that rig spent most of its life, you may have to replace some/all of your hydraulic brake lines due to rust. I am not sure what (if anything) they charged you for the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) when you had your transmission repair done, but, IIRC, the transmission and the PCM were completely separate back then. Godspeed, enjoy life, but start putting quarters away for a newer ride. Nothing lasts forever.

Carolyn's RV Life Carolyn I'm from Connecticut about to go through a divorce and for years have been contemplating this lifestyle mainly because it's affordable and does give you real freedom from everything that's been set against us I.E. high taxes etc. My dad has a Sprinter Mercedes I think it's a 2010 my mom just passed away so I think he's gonna sell it. I have heard that these RV's emit plastic fumes that are carcinogens do you know if this is true. I thought of buying a postage stamp lot say in Vermont to have an address and travel from there towing a tiny car and moped behind as so to travel away from wherever I stop the RV it will allow me to explore. Maybe someday we could talk via internet or phone I kinda need to make contacts on the RV life to me it seems scary the unknown anyway I hope things are going well for you thank you for your video I love KZbin.......❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸

I’ve been watching RV videos for a couple of months and now subscribe to yours and a few other RVers. Thank you for presenting your 7+ year (so far) journey. In the video I started to watch this morning, you asserted people quit the RV life because they get bored. That prompted me to go back to the beginning of your journey to discover what your initial expectations of it were. Thanks for taking your time to make and post your videos. That takes a lot of creativity and courage.

What a great story Carolyn I can relate to it 100%. You've found yourself and are now living an authentic life. Most of us know deep down that we are not living the life that we want but are kept in place by our various fears including stepping outside of social "norms" Most of us will tiptoe through life safely to death! I wish you all the very best in your new found freedom.

Quite inspirational. I am currently 38 years old and have worked a 9 to 5 job. It paid quite well, but like you say in your video, I felt trapped. It just utterly silly to me to give away the majority of one's life to someone else only to die and retire. This is not about being lazy. I am very committed to things and ideas I feel have a greater purpose and are constructive. Yes, I also like having a bank account with money in it; however, money is a tool. A tool to provide freedom and do things you like and make a difference. I am still trying to find a way to have both my freedom as well as some financial security. I am still searching though how to go about it...of course it also takes courage

The trick is, having a job you absolutely love. I was an Art Director for 10 years, but realized I couldn't retire on just Social Security, so I quit and joined the Sheriff's Dept. I loved the job so much, I worked overtime every chance I got. I didn't need the money, I just loved the job, so I would give it to my parents. After 28 years, I retired. My house is paid off and now I attend Classic Car Shows with my 2 classics.

Not from a disease that can be treated, just from not seeing any reason to continue... except this. I've wanted to do this since I was 10 years old and now I'm terrified to take the leap, yet there is NOTHING stopping me. Nothing but fear. I have the rig... her name is Carolyn. Ha! You are such an inspiration! I should have done what you're doing many years ago! I've always wanted to live free from all the restraints of "normal" living! My husband and I purchased (financed for an astronomical 7.5% interest!) a used Class C RV for $50,000 which we finished paying just a few years ago and used only 3 or 4 times, I'm ashamed to say. My husband and I were too busy working and we could never seem to get vacation time off at the same time, so our RV has really sat on our property just aging away! Actually, we've been using it for family or friends who drop by for a few days visits and that's about it! But I still live with the dream of having done what you're doing! So, more power to you! I admire the fact that you had the guts to go ahead and live the life that you felt would make you the happiest. I wish you much happiness and many great, memorable experiences in your journeys!

Hi, Carolyn, Thanks for sharing your experiences. I've been living in my Class C since last November. I watched a couple of your videos, just randomly, and I really enjoyed them, so I subscribed and decided to just go through them one by one in order from the beginning. I get what you say about being a hobo. I kind of dreamed of going out and riding the rails, but when I grew up I discovered the reality. It's not only not so easy, but it is also not really even possible anymore. The world has changed. I, too, lost my house and my business back in the 2008 thing, and decided then to sell everything, and hit the road with my then-now-ex-husband. I had the living-off-the-land fantasy, mainly because all I wanted was to immerse myself in nature. So I bought a truck and a trailer and headed south. But, that reality thing comes back and rears its ugly head in the form of unforeseen circumstances I probably should have anticipated. And I wound up selling the whole rig, along with the remainder of my possessions. That first time didn't work out so well, but now I am trying again, this time without the husband. I love my little RV. She's old, but so am I. She's very comfortable, but still needs some work to be road-worthy. Nonetheless, it's a very comfortable little tiny home. I really appreciate the videos you are offering, and I can't wait to get deeper into your adventures. So I'll be watching. Thank you so much!!

When I started sharing my writing, I learned that, while my story may be unique my path to "personhood" is not. We all have our crosses to bear and we all have a story; I am not unique in that. So if by sharing my life, I can connect with people like you and make us all feel not- so-alone, then it's a wonderful thing! Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it very much! - Carolyn

So impressed! I live in UK but spent around 10 years travelling to USA on business and spending 5 to 6 moths a year there. Sadly the trips have now stopped but I can imagine no better life than the one you have! USA is a truly remarkable place to be in, and having the ability to just think of a place and go there strikes me as THE most wonderful life possible. You are an inspiration!

Gosh Carolyn I am in awe of you and your choice to RV full time. I too have had "itchy feet" my entire life! I am 50, healthy, single (sort of), empty nester and retired! I bought a brand new truck in Jan. I bought my 12' camp trailer the year before. I just haven't made that last step.....pack up and go! I am so excited I have watched your intro video. I am going to your blog next. Maybe you are just the motivation I need to "take the plunge". Stay warm and HAPPY!

I am a 66 year old woman, living in my off-grid cabin in the wilderness of Northern Idaho. I ran across one of your videos and found it fascinating. I have to admit, your lifestyle is a tad more fancy than mine because you have wheels under you and I don't. But the theory is the same. I, too, switched from a materialistic, soul draining lifestyle - to one based on self-reliant sufficiency. I look forward to watching your series.

I've thought about taking it one step further. Sell everything I own, buy a large boat and sail to the South Pacific. If I get bored I can just get resupplied, pull up the anchor and then sail somewhere else. I lived in the wilderness by myself and survived off of the land for several months, but now that I'm getting older that no longer is much of an option. I did travel around in my motorhome for a while several years ago, but I found that to be more expensive than staying at home. Maybe you could do some videos on how to save money in an RV and live on the cheap? Thanks -Ed

The problem with sailing is all the rules and restrictions. Vaccine records and a lot more to deal with. Pirates are anotger issue all its on. A sailing club would probably be o.k. though. I had the same notion of sailing the high seas and conquering the world too. Sadly that quickly diminished once I found out the troubles you'd have to go through.

Great video, thank you for telling your story! In 2009 I also lost my house and divorced my husband who is an alcoholic. My whole life changed that year. I met a wonderful man who happens to be a Canadian got remarried and moved from Texas to Northern Canada. We plan on becoming full time RV's in 2 years when hubby retires and we can't wait! We have just purchased a Dodge Ram 3500 dually so we can upgrade from our travel trailer to a 5th wheel when it's time. Keep the videos coming, I love watching them. Thank you Carolyn. I’m a 67 year old woman who like you, has always had wanderlust, hates the status quo, and bores easily. However, unlike you...I’ve never roughed it, done long hikes, and do enjoy the many souvenirs I’ve brought back from world travels. Have recently divorced, the big house is mtge. free, no car payment, etc. I’m watching a lot of videos like yours and also looking at small travel trailers I could tow behind my Ford Edge. Most are very small and I would be spending most days outside. Safety will be a major concern, finding places to park for a week or so at a time, and of course maintenance and repairs. I also have 2 dogs who would travel with me.
