I got my hands on the new stock length lower control arms from Solomotorsports. I showcase the arms, discuss the advantages, and go through a basic install on my custom 2003 Toyota Tundra Access Cab.

Great video man. Just got the spc uppers. This’ll be my next purchase. I know your firm belief in having to trim to run 35s but I got my heart set on proving you wrong 😂 I’m hoping I can run these and the spc uppers and get the wheels right where they should be 👍

Hey, thank you... I only tell folks they are going to have to trim/modify, because I just want them to be prepared for what they may be in store for, if they want to truly clear big tires on these trucks. I wish you luck, but I would suggest you make sure you thoroughly test your tire clearance through the ENTIRE suspension and steering cycles in your driveway, before you flex it out on a trail. You don't want to rip anything apart or cut rubber the first time you are on your bump stops. Cheers!

Did you have an issue with your coilover now too short after installing these since its oushed forward an inch? I bouth a new set of Kings (my first real coilover purchase) and they had basically ½" of travel. My fab shop discovered that theyre basically too short becuase of the LCAs. This was a sad day for me. Had to have a custom spacer on top machined to make up the difference and allow for more travel. I was so bummed out.

Hmmm… The solo arms shouldn’t effect your shock travel. The LBJ is moved forward, but the lower shock mount is very close to the same place as stock. Sounds to me like King may have sent you the wrong shocks. Stock travel numbers are around 7-8” and a “mid travel” coilover should put you at about 8-9” of total travel. So if you have 1/2” travel, something is very wrong.

How bad do these Polly bushings squeak?
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV 13 күн бұрын
They were silent for almost a year, but then they started squeaking like all poly bushings eventually do. Race car noises, haha.

How do you like the new lower control arm and can you feel the difference?
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV Жыл бұрын
They are holding up very well, no issues. It’s hard to say I “feel” any difference while driving, since I did a number of things to the suspension all at the same time. But I can say the LCA bushings are definitely under much less stress now, that the alignment cams aren’t turned way out. That’s very apparent when I’m working on the suspension and moving it up and down by hand.

the front cam adjusts camber not caster
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV Жыл бұрын
Hi. The LCA is a triangle. Any independent adjustment of either the front or rear alignment cam, will result in the LBJ moving forward or backwards, which will affect caster.

Would this be worth it to get with 6112s?
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV 6 ай бұрын
Two different purposes. Main benefit of the solo arms is the added caster and strength. Those benefits carry over to any coilover you choose. 6112 are a good choice if you push your truck fast and hard on the bumpy stuff.

@@JHBtheIV Thanks! How was the camber, were you able to get it close to spec without adjustable upper control arms? Also the lower Solo lower control arm, the factory steering stops don't function, how does it affect turning? Lastly, how do you like the Solo LCAs, any regrets or issues?
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV Жыл бұрын
@@bern7250 Ive found once you start messing with IFS lift, and aftermarket control arms on these trucks, aligning to "spec" is sort of gone out the window. If you try to go soley by numbers, you will usually end up with poor driving characteristics and/or wear patterns. To get a good alignment you really need to go to an old school shop that uses turntables, and does driving tests. I have done that with all my IFS trucks and never had any alignment problems. You are correct. The factory stops no longer limit your steering cycle with the Solo LCAs, so its now limited by your steering rack. I try to make a point not to crank the wheel to full stop, just to keep from putting undo stress on the rack seals. You could probably fab a little spacer for the factory stops if desired, but I haven't felt it necessary. No regrets on the Solo LCAs. They are all positives and no negatives as far as I can tell at this point. Only possible negative is that now im considering going LT, because I can't leave things alone. :)

Do you think I can fit 2004-2006 lower control arms into my 2002 tundra if I replace spindles, knuckles, and lower ball joints? There’s an open thread in 1st gen tundra but no definitive answers

do you think 35x10.50 would fit well with minimal trimming with these control arms?
@JHBtheIV
@JHBtheIV Жыл бұрын
Fitting 35s at full bump/turn is tough regardless of width. Keeping the wheel offset as close to stock as you can just clearing the UCA and frame, and running these arms, should get you pretty close though.
