Solution to Dog Escaping through Fence

My dog kept squeezing / escaping through the bars in the fence.
In this video I show you the failed way I tried to contain my dog in the yard. The dog kept escaping. So, I installed a mesh fencing to keep him contained successfully.

Good solution unless you have a really determined dog who will dig right under the mesh! Our Abby (a 65-lb Carolina dog), upon seeing a fox or rabbit outside the yard, could dig her way under the fence in very short order! Our solution was to fortify the fence with heavy mesh called cattle panels (available at Tractor Supply). We dug trenches along the fence line and partially buried the panels about a foot deep to deter her digging efforts. If you think installing the panels sounds like brutal work, you’d be right. But it was worth it to make sure Abby stays home.

Tried this with a different type of mesh that bent and she was able to muzzle her way out but your mesh is stiff so it should work much better. Thanks for the tip and GO CARDS! I am wearing my Cards shirt too.

Just got a new 5mo pup and had already put sort of like fenceing. My last dog escaped couple weeks back and she never returned. Today as i was driving off, i could him already hang over the top of the fence. There is a portion raised by a wall with the metal fencing on top. Im already suspecting when he ages he will jump straight over that, Guess i need to raise up the fine fencing above the main fence... He seems like an adventurer

Dogs are crafty they will bite the fence then rip it away or simply dig under it. They are master escape artists if they want to be.

My dog looks to be the same size. About 13 pounds. Silky terrier & Jack Russel mix. He has been slipping through the 3" gaps in my fence. I got him on video today. He won't do it if he knows I'm watching, so I put a tether on him and let him roam about. Sure enough, he slipped through. I started this same project on my fence.

I'm pet sitting for 2 Schnauzers for quite a while. This is my second year doing this. Last year I had no problems. My customer has a fence like yours and has a large yard also. This year one of the boys has decided to go through the fence opening like yours. I was shocked and very upset the first time. A neighbor on the other side of a street was able to catch him and contacted his owner. I was riding around the neighborhood calling for him. The neighbor located me and I followed them to their house. Would you believe that the dog got out again that night after dark. I left all lights on and garage door open. I went out with flashlights looking for him stopping people driving by. Fortunately one of the people I stopped was a neighbor on the same street. He was able to get the dog and walked him over on a leash. The last time he got out in the dark again. Long story short he eventually decided to come home but had been out in the cold for over an hour. I had gone out 3 times in the freezing weather trying to locate him. Oh, he did eventually find me from behind but ran away as soon as I turned around. I tried making a tie out line with leads attached. He keeps getting stuck away from the door and I have to put on slippers to untangle him. And yes he's neutered. I'm here taking care of someone else's dog who keeps getting out it at least trying. My nerves are shot.

Zip ties are a bad idea. They don’t get tight enough and also after sometime the sun will make them very brittle. Safety wire would be a huge improvement.

Our little dog got a really bad cut near eye from safety wire. Had to have stitches and wear a cone of shame and the bleeding was so bad. Better off replacing the ties if they dry out than putting dog's safety at risk.

LOL he's trying to figure out what the hell's going on. I have the same issue especially when my female is in heat he tries to go to where she's at my honey put chicken wire but after a while they tend to knock it down

I did the same thing, but I have a large dog who likes to jump and he was able to tear off the mesh. Any other suggestions to keep the mesh up, so my small terrier doesn’t get out?

Just wondering - What is the weight of the dog and the gap in the fence they are going through? Was thinking of putting aluminum fence and this is my fear

The dog is a schnauzer that weighs 20 pounds, and the gap between rails on the fence is 3-3/4".

There is something you can get called a "coyote roller" which is a rolling bar that sits at the top of the fence. The dog would be unable to get a grip to climb because the bar keeps rolling anytime they try. This person did a DIY version - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3KmkH2KmdiHedk . I hope this helps you.
