Thank you very much, Mr Gawdat! Thank you for sharing this with the world. I cannot even express how grateful I am to have discovered you. I am a 19-year-old girl who has deeply struggled to find her way in life. You are an inspiration and a great teacher to me. My duty now is to share this knowledge with my family and friends. I hope that more and more people will discover your brilliant work!

Mo this changed my life.... Now i understand.. If your brain is adapted to survive in childhood to tyrants lets say, then now your older your brain is wired to survive like you said, but now the circumstances are different.. So its time to not always listen to it.. Mo thank you so much.

Dear Mo, many thanks again for that great idea to tell the brain to give me a better thought! : D I tried it today and yesterday and even if it was not helping long every time I tried it I first was really grateful for you sharing these amazing findings with us for free and in my head I hada the picture of this lecture! That alone helped to bring me a bit away from these really negative thoughts I somehow was giving focus. Many thx and most health, peace and love!

Yeah :D I get that comment a lot :D I think it is my years of professional programing as an executive that makes me get serious when i talk in public or present. I smile a lot more when not being observed by 120 smart Stanford grads and students and trust me I am working on smiling more :)

Your reply is much appreciated. Yeah, didn't think this through enough since I just "met" you on Solve for Happy. Changed my mind a bit after watching all 9 parts of your lecture. Looking forward to reading your book and being happy. :) And I say in advance that this kind of thinking should be a part of every persons life. Thanks.

In the book, the illusion of thought is associated with the two usual modern secular authors. There is a third one which is relatively unknown because unlike the other two, this one is not well publicised (by choice). For those who want a less mainstream exposition (but no less powerful) on the same topic, check out sydney banks. You had mentioned that you have read up a lot of this topic and I was wondering if you had come across sydney banks' work during your research?

My brain is the thinking organ, hence it is part of me and I would argue the most important part of me. Not sure, why he thinks this is groundbreaking and shatters an illusion.

Mo, what if it's not a voice but rather a feeling? I don't get the voice out loud anymore but definitely have sabotaging feelings about myself and the world. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Very interesting topic & angle on happiness Mo! I'm watching now the full series of Stanford popup class on youtube. Not sure i'm getting (or agree with) the idea behind "Me" being able to control my brain. I believe it's my brain that controls my actions. Technically I understand the idea of brain being just another organ with it's goal being "idea generation". However if it's not brain that is making the final decisions, which organ is? You've made it quite clear that this idea of brain_ideation vs. decision_making separation is fundamental to the "Solve for happy" ideology (allowing me to "observe" my brain thoughts and still make "my own" decisions). Therefore I decided to ask you about it here as it might be useful for future viewers as well.. Cheers!

Hi Mo. I really like your videos. I have a question. I'm wondering If the brain is a machine that creates your thoughts, Why does it sometimes create negative thoughts and sometimes positive? Should it's default setting always be to make you feel good and well just as a lungs default is to bring in Oxygen and exhale Carbon Dioxide?
@MoGawdatOfficial
@MoGawdatOfficial 7 жыл бұрын
Our brains are part of our survival machine. They are much more interested in what is going wrong because that might be a threat to our survival. Some research indicates that 60-70% of the average human thoughts are negative. So when the brain is left to its natural design it will tend to be more negative. We can however tilt that ratio by continuously directing our brains to look for the positive. Remember, the brain is just a tool it will always do exactly what you tell it to do.

caneadelic I agree, our minds are a tool. Humans have come to over exaggerate this tool because of our desires to create. The creations of others ultimately affect every other individual who may come across this creation. This is why we find it difficult to navigate in our physical world, we are constantly fighting in a already tempered world searching for a way to manifest our own desires. It is the mind that will either make.. or break us. The key is how to correctly use this tool we have, and control it's direction to build a happy satisfying life. 💚

Although I enjoyed the talk and lot of it made sense, I do disagree about one point: I don't think the statement that "you are not your brain" is fundamentally the same same as saying "you are not your liver" or some other organ. Here is a thought experiment: If you got a liver transplant, you would feel that you received the donor's liver. But hypothetically imagine that you were to receive a brain transplant, I guess most likely you are not going to feel that you received the donor's brain, but it would most likely be the case that the 'donor' actually received your body!

Interesting the half glass full state. Someone asked me if me if I was a half full glass person. My answer was depending what we are drinking. This guy has great concepts but annoys the piss out of me as a facilitator. Can't say why. The exercises are funny. But I can't lock on to him as much as I would like.

I realy love what Mo says and his philosophies however he needs to learn not to say OK after almost every sentence. It's very annoying. He needs to practice to talk better. He also says "if you want" a lot. Which is just wrong.
