Solving issues with connecting an external microphone on the Redmi Note 8 Pro

Very useful ! Thanks. I tried a Rode Lav mic directly with the Redmi Note 8 Pro but the Video and Audio were not in Sync and there was a 'blinking' throughout the clip. However, after using a 'Rode TRRS to TRS Adaptor (model : SC3)' between the Redmi and my Lav mic, the Video and Audio were in sync. Solved a big issue with me. Thanks much for this video ! ps: (Since I had a Rode, I used it....it may offer a similar solution for other brands too....it is a Tech issue and not a brand issue)

Can I ask a question? Do I connect the microphone to this Rode adapter and, then, directly to the smartphone? Don't need that phone/microphone (green/pink) adapter that he showed in this video? Thanks!

@@rodvs83 If you happen to use what worked for me then you would NOT need the green/pink adapter shown in this video clip. The green/pink adapter would be useful for those who do not have a Rode... So as mentioned above this is what I did - Redmi Note 8 (mobile) connects to the 'Rode TRRS to TRS Adaptor (model : SC3)' which connects to the Rode Lav mic. Since Rode is only a brand name here, any 'TRRS to TRS Adapter' should work is my guess (I am not sure what 'SC3' mentioned on the Rode Adapter box means...it could be a model of Rode and not necessarily an adapter specification....its only my guess) Hope the above explains better and solves the issue you might be facing. I ddin't understand why so many converters were applied because I can't see the entire diagram but I bought the same blue splitter just that mine is audio and mic into one TRRS cable (the opposite of what you have) and I connected the microphone using this converter (leaving the audio port empty) and the mic work but for a couple seconds. The icon on the status bar starts to blink and cycle through nothing-headphone-headset all the time. I tried to connect any headphone on the audio port but it was the same. It's annoying because I haven't been able to find the solution. Let me know if you find something please.

It agree it is crap and unreliable. I don't bother anymore and now I'm using an external audio recorder (Zoom H1). Much better audio quality than a phone or camera but unfortunately bulky, another device I have to carry etc.

It is just plug and play, may not work for all microphones, sorry.

Yes that is a bug. What kind of mic do you have? The splitter I showed is prob. not the best, lots of interference noise, I'll probably get a better one later without cables. But I'm glad it works at least!

The external microphone comes with a splitter, do I need to buy another splitter? It seems you have 2 cable sets, kind of confusing to see all the connection you do there. My phone does not read the microphone, headset icon blinks

Hi, thanks for your comments. Yes I admit it is confusing in my video. I have shown a headset which needs a trrs connector and the splitter has a trs mic output, so I needed another converter cable. For a external mic this is not needed. If your headset icon still blinks, you need to connect the headphone output too. You could try to connect a headphone, I use a dummy plug.

I use a DJI Osmo FM-15 Fleximic. I also use a wireless bluetooth headset with microphone, a Mpow S11, works fine without any adapter.

@@thewizardofohmy microphone is Kimafun 2.4 I just connected my bluetooth headset and the ext microphone to the phone and icon is blinking faster. I see Redmi phones have too much trouble with external microphone connection.

Thanks for your comment. You can search online for 3.5 audio male jack, or ask in any audio/hifi store. Link to Aliexpress: a.aliexpress.com/_dWRu3po Probably you will have to solder the + and - to make it work.

So I am not the only one, as my Headphones have a mic and it does not record from the source of the bluetooth Headphones... I do not have any options to swith the in-coming source. I will try to download OpenCam and try and will let you know.

No, does not work. Not even with OpenCam I can select the Sony Headphones, which got an internal mic, so I could use the external mic, instead of the Xiomi Mic. Funny, that is weird.

@@bike4peace Yes I have the same issue with my bluetooth headset. All video recorders don't recognize the mic from the bluetooth headset (I have tried opencamera, stock camera app, gcam). The only way I can record with the BT headset is with audio/voice recorder apps that support bluetooth mics. BT mic does work with Whatsapp, phone calls etc

If you connect a mic with a TRS jack into the splitter and then the TRRS jack of the splitter is connected to the phone mic port, will it work?

Hello, I have bought a bluetooth headset (microphone and earpiece) for my Redmi note 7. Unfortunately the phone is not accessing the bluetooth microphone for videos (it does access the microphone for calls). I need to be filming myself at a certain distance from the phone and therefore need the microphone... any suggestions on how to fix the issue? Thanks
