Hello and welcome! I'm Betty Franks Krause and I create my vision of abstract fields of flowers using acrylic paints and pencils (and other mark-making tools). I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and travel a couple of times a year to Preko, Croatia (where my parents live). I started painting in 2012 and focused on abstract art in the summer of 2015. I just learned from one of your videos that you didn't start painting until you were 50, ironically enough I just turned 50 in June and started painting LOL I've always loved the idea of painting and crafting and things like that and like you I've been doing a lot of mixed media doing some art journaling etc. All of my kids are grown out of the house I'm a new grandmother and trying to find what to do with my time has been challenging until I found this. This painting that you're working on is absolutely amazing I absolutely love it. No need to respond, I just wanted you to know that we have some similarities LOL

Feels like the real skill comes after the ‘make the darks darker and the lights lighter’ bit - when you have to work out what to do to make the painting effective. You are super kind, Katherine! The Nova paints are acrylic, so depending on how hot it is and how much humidity is in the air, they can dry out quickly. But, honestly, that's what I love about acrylics. I don't like to wait around for paint to dry! Thank so much for watching!

I only came across your videos yesterday and OMG thank you! I was hanging on the edge of my seat waiting to see what you would do next in this video, and thank you for your honesty in sharing your frustration. I am inspired by how you continued to trust and share your own process. I struggle with abstracts and just have no idea what I am trying to achieve so feel I should give up. But you have given me so many new ideas, hope and a process I can try. I also love that you are not aiming for perfection, but a vulnerabilty that is expressed in your painting as "rawness". Hi Lyndel! Thank you for your kind comments! You may be struggling because you just haven't found a style that really speaks to your heart so that you can create from your heart. Keep on exploring and trying different styles, techniques and products. I'm confident that you will come to a point where you love what you're creating and you're enjoying the entire process from start to finish. Try to buy the best paints you can afford (even if they're the smallest bottle). You'll be much happier with the quality of the colors and paint than using the less expensive, lower quality paints. I am really enjoying your videos. I love your approach with loosening up at the beginning with the mark making. I love the use of black at the beginning thus allowing it to peek through and giving such depth. Do you have a video(s) that deals more with composition? I'm beginning to see scenes in your paintings. For instance, in this one I see a park with many people, a park bench, sidewalks, a couple dancing, and some ladies sitting on the grass. I had the same thing happen for the 3 you recently posted on IG (the in process pics). I know it is one painting in 3 stages, but each had a different effect when viewing them. Maybe just getting tired of sheltering. Mainly, I just really enjoy looking at your work at every stage. Have a good evening.
