I was flabbergasted that this took less than five hours! I think your working methods are really well worked out too, particularly the drawing/dark paint/contrasting colour layers and the consistency of your mark making throughout. I also work quickly and have a habit of overworking images, so I can see that process painting will help me as I work in more abstract ways. Thanks for that 😊👌

Betty Frank's Art: Unbelievably HELPFUL tip! It's very much like seeing your art with someone else's eyes & helps to point out glaring inconsistencies (abstract painting is definitely NOT just throwing some paint around as some would think) and how to know when it's actually finished. Now I take progress photos for myself, and regretfully, discovered that I have often gone too far with further "details" and destroyed what I was going for! Slow down, Yope! I also use greyscale photos in the beginning to judge how colors will be seen from a distance. I also find standing as far away as I can from the painting helps to see the "big picture". Pardon the pun :) Greetings from Canada, I love your art style! Mine is still evolving, best described as some sort of mix of Gerda Lipsky, Elyse Fournier, and your own great self! Also, I really admire and aspire to Paivie Eerola from peonyandparaket, ultimate favorite! The four of you and drawing phenom Peter Draws are my greatest art influencers to date. And for that, many thanks!

So, I have been trying to learn and follow your process with the hope that I will discover my own! The last painting, the one that I am working on now has been more difficult in some ways because I skipped some things thinking I could do those later but it isn't working that well. If I don't build up the "back ground", the next layers just don't look right at all! I have to take the time to layer, layer and layer some more! But it's so worth it in the end! Thanks for sharing your work with us!

Hi Betty! I love your choice of colours in this piece! It's fun to watch you paint as I find it quite relaxing. I love to watch other artists paint. I am an artist also and I'm disabled and I'm deaf in one ear, and I'm bedbound so I have to do everything lying down and it can be a challenge! I put a box easel on my body and use it to hold my canvasses. It's hard to find room for my palette though. My Mom helps me get all the supplies together and set everything up and then I paint. I used to draw and paint in a realistic manner but now I find abstract much more satisfying. I also use pen and ink, watercolours, pastels, coloured pencils and acrylic. I love variety in life and in art also. Well, I'll get back to watching you paint. Thank you and take care!

This is uncanny - I randomly ended up on this video and you touch on two things I've struggled with and struggled to articulate. When is it done and why didn't I stop sooner? Watching this made me realize I should look at them more from different angles before continuing or stopping! Last night, my roommate was watching me paint and they asked me why I bothered to put all these colours down first and do different things to cover a fair amount of it up. I couldn't really explain it to them, because I didn't understand myself. You are right, it is very much like letting parts of yourself shine through or be hidden. As if every painting had a secret. Thank you. I am now a subscriber...thank you for clicking those two pieces together for me!
@BettyFranksArt3 жыл бұрын
That is so cool! Thank you for sharing that with me. I love that you said that "every painting had a secret"--YES! Exactly how I feel. Not everyone needs to know why you covered something up, but they'll see/notice that something was covered up and to me that's so fascinating! It's good that your roommate asked you. These are questions that we don't often ask ourselves. If we can answer them, then we can better understand why we do what we do when we're painting. Thanks you for subscribing and wishing you many wonderfully creative hours in the studio!

14:01 is my favorite part of the painting. I know it's about what the artist wants to paint and when she feels it's finished. But I love the part because of the way she made all those colors work in harmony at that point and to me it looked like the beautiful chaos found in nature. And from a distance the painting really made an impact with it's striking color. Amazing abstract. ❤️

@@BettyFranksArt yes, indeed one of the few artists I've seen who justify the abstraction of their painting's theme !..and as I write this my two little ones are fighting it out with acrylic colours and their 8 feet by 4 feet canvas !!

Love your art style, I've learned so much from you and your technics that I'm not afraid of making a wrong decision since I can go over the canvas while making changes to the direction I want. This is another beautiful piece. Thank you Betty, hugs from Spain 💐

I loved the reds in the center, but they were lost in the sea of cool colors. So between #22 min and #45 min. it was a different painting. Thanks for sharing your process. I do similar work, but in fabrics and mixed media.

I am beginning to think I will stop naming my paintings. Maybe I'll just number them. The names I come up with always seem too precious. You have a good take on naming yours.
@BettyFranksArt2 жыл бұрын
I think that the way you name your paintings is also a part of who you are (as much as the artwork). Use whatever names you want. I'm sure your naming will also evolve over the years, too.
