This video explains why Dawn dishwashing liquid will keep your property mosquito free.
Experts say to remove the standing water from your property the mosquitos need for breeding. Finding all this standing water is impossible. The Dawn carried by the mosquitos from your lawn will render all the standing water unusable for breeding. This is how your mosquito problem is solved by Dawn

All I can say is that I have lived in my current home for over 18 years and from day one, come June 1st, I was unable to even go in my backyard without getting covered in mosquitos. I tried so many different solutions and nothing worked. 3 weeks ago, I put an ounce of dawn in my sprayer with water. I waited until the lawn was dry and misted all around in my garden and grass and within a few days, I have not been attacked by mosquitos! There have been a few random demons, but I just get the sprayer and spray some more. It works! Thank you so much for your video!

@@ebrelsford Hi, there are quite a few youtubers that have videos covering this topic. Last year I tried it out using Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo. This year I'm using Dawn Ultra because it's a better buy at Walmart. On the back of the Dawn it also states that it's a surfactant. That is important to look for. Don't get anything antibacterial, that may kill off all your important microbes in your lawn. The soap ( surfactant) helps breakup the top layer of oils in your lawn's soil to allow the much needed water to reach the roots of the grass. I have used a hand pump sprayer at 2-3oz per gallon for 1000sqft as well as a scotts/ chapin garden house style feeder with about 5oz mixed with water. I used less with the pump sprayer because the limited water. The garden hose sprayer I used more and just gauged how much the level went down with the total square footage of my total lawn. I prefer the garden hose style because your giving your lawn a good watering at the same time. Hope this helps!

For those of you who are interested. Soap breaks down water particles. In layman terms for example: it takes a drop of water and turns it into hundreds of finer water particles. Like crushing a grain of salt into finer granules. That's what soap does to water. The irony of soap is that it doesn't actually clean. It's the water that cleans because it has been broken down so small it can get under and through the crud that is there. You might say it's a water thinner, and that is how it works.
@LowellAlb
@LowellAlb Жыл бұрын
Soap DOES react with grime and grease to make something that is soluble in water. If your theory were correct, then we could have used the same soap again and again several times.
@antichrist_revealed
@antichrist_revealed Жыл бұрын
@@LowellAlb It's not a theory, it's fact. Years ago I watched a program that showed the molecular level of water before and after the implementation of soap, and they showed that soap doesn't actually clean as we have been lead to believe. But what it does is break water down enough that it can penetrate and go through and under objects like dirt and grime which allows the water to do the cleaning. I told my co workers about it the next day, and they suggested I "get a life" and not watch programs on soap and how it works. Yet here it is many years later, and I still haven't forgot. It's not a theory.

Just to consider IF kids using pool, sodium laureth sulphate is not the best chemical on them and really not be used without gloves for washing dishes its best to use natural soaps or SLS free formulas. These industrial grease cutting detergents disrupt protective oils throughout your biology creating accumulative issues (auto immune issues) down the line. Use bi-carbsoda for pools keep them alkaline and stops fungal strains as well as mosquitos. Mosquito Dunks are safer than petrochemical products sold for home use.

I've successfully solved our mosquito problem by using Mosquito Dunks in five gallon buckets of water at the corners of my property. They contain a natural ingredient that keeps the mosquitos from reproducing without endangering any other organisms. They're made for large ponds, don't effect cattle or fish, and you only need a quarter of a Dunk for a month in the bucket. Just make sure there is no other standing water around for them to breed and they are forced to use the buckets. WORKS GREAT!

I use the kiddy pool gardening system promoted by Larry Hall. Plants in grow bags in kiddie pools. Saves water, gives the plant just what it needs, and gives you a buffer against plants dying because you forgot to water. Also oxygenates the roots, etc. It's perfect for hot Southern California. The only problem is the standing water that mosquitoes love. There are a number of ways to deal with it, but I just use dish soap (not antibacterial and with the least unnecessary ingredients) in a similar dilution in the standing water. No mosquitoes and the plants seem to love it too. You need to reapply the soap as needed.

Mosquitos use standing water in ponds, marshes, puddles, tires, buckets, etc... to lay and hatch their eggs into nymphs that later turn into mosquitos. Spraying Dawn on your lawn will kill the grass, but putting a few drops in buckets of water around your property to encourage female mosquitos to lay eggs and drown in those buckets is the right approach. Spraying your lawn is the oddest suggestion I've come across.

Dawn also contains methylisothiazolinone and 1,4-dioxane. The first is toxic to marine organisms, the second is a ground water contaminant. A better, safer and cheaper method, take some used vegetable oil that your going to toss anyways and throw it out on to the standing water. This prevents the larvae from going to the surface and breathing. It requires a very thin film and it doesn't effect anything else but the larvae. Been doing it for decades and it works great. No Dawn and no sprayer.

Backyard picnic planned ? A couple hours before, sprayer with dish soap all over picnic area, low leaves, bushes, lawn, especially under picnic tables. Those mosquitos are resting there waiting, the soap dries hard on their wings, can't fly for days.

I had this hypothesis for a while but (as Im about to impliment) it's neat to see it confirmed. My thinking was that since feuit flies are treated with a similar technique, it should work with mosquitos. I'll be adding a squirt of dawn to the rain sewer drains that wont drain and crossing my fingers

Ajax dishwashing liquid cuts my roach problem way down. But I think they just don't like walking on it. I just spread it all over the kitchen undiluted and redo it every couple of weeks. It's way better than spraying poison all over the place. I keep some diluted in a spray bottle and get the strays that ocassionaly show up. It slows them down so they're easy to squish.

Dawn absolutely kills 🐜 I haven't bought ant granules in years thanks to Dawn..5 gallon bucket water, when almost full, keep hose under the water and squeeze Dawn until lite blue. Does not take a lot but too little is a waste. Red ants, carpenter and mud divers, wasp and the list goes on.

@@derrickmartin9027 you find the ant hills in your yard, go over to the little sob's and their little anti-bodies and pour a 5 gallon bucket water mixed with about a tablespoon of dawn maybe 2 tablespoons. I never knew this worked until I was washing my car with dawn dish soap. I poured the leftover water onto a fire ant bed and the next day I remembered there was a fire ant bed in Yard and I needed to put some poison on it. I got my poison and went outside to the ant hill and seen about a thousand ants on top of the hill dead. I was like no effing way!

I imagine this works too but in Australia there is a brand called Fairy. If you wash your dog with it it does the same thing with fleas. Also for those that think it will be bad for dogs skin remember where they hang out and dish liquid is made for safety in humans.

No, I used Dawn on my dachshund once, and it irritated the mess out of her skin. Dogs are like humans, in that they can have reactions to different cleaning agents and chemicals. For flea removal, I wouldn't dissuade anyone from using it, but for regular baths, I would stick with all natural products.

My mother ( born 1927 ) used Palmolive if my memory serves me right. I have always loved cleaning and finding better cleaning methods/products. My first was Prell Shampoo that was the best to clean my oily hair. Then I started using Cheer Laundry Detergent for cold water. Next I used Mean Green to melt away cigarette smoke on walls/windows/etc. Also for glass and more I use Sprayway. PB Blaster Penetrating Rust Busting Spray. The big discovery has been Dawn. I wash my dishes/glasses/silverware/pots & pans, my whole body, my walls, stove, anything. Now I am going to spread the words of this video to rid the world of as many mosquitoes as possible. Thank you sir and God bless you richly.

I put a couple drops of Dawn in a white pan of water then hang a light bulb about 6” above the water. It catches fleas, knats and other insects that get in the house. Same surface tension theory drowns anything that touches the water.

I see people are still comment I on this video. I learned this trick back in the early 1990s from P. Allen Smith on PBS station. 1 oz of Dawn and Tbl spoon of concentrated lemon juice in a hose attachment sprayer. The Dawn won't let them land on water, like you said, and the lemon juice let's the grass breath. Where I lived at the time, my neighborhood was next to a Creek. I would come home to a yard full of kid and they would say "your yard is the only one without mosquitoes". I would usually repeat the spraying after a rain to keep it mosquito free. I still practice this, to this day .

Great video and thanks for the explanation! But wouldn't the Dawn hurt your grass or other vegetation that you spray this solution on? I've seen Dawn used in some homemade herbicides. Or perhaps the concentration is low enough not to affect your grass?

According to Readers Digest: How long do mosquitoes live? According to the American Mosquito Control Association, the lifespan of these insects really varies by species, with the majority of mature female mosquitoes living just two to three weeks. However, some female mosquitoes can live up to 100 days. And some types of mosquitoes are known to survive in places like garages and attics for up to six months. .
