It's gonna be great when it's the post-credit sequence when Val is typing out like a memo header for new classified documents and she adds the asterisk to Thunderbolts, thinks a moment, and then on a new carriage return starts typing out the footnote as "DARK AV" and the screen goes black.

Was the asterisk ever explained in the comics? I do have a run of Thunderbolts and remember it being there, but I don't remember there being a reason for it (it's been awhile, and I'm old...). Also, I agree with you. No explanation is required.

In the same way when I see a project in Jac Schaeffer's hands, at least by the trailer, and I could be biased because I am aimless and lost in life, but I feel like this trailer nails the tone of what I hope it is. It's like, they're not the A-Squad, they've never had the center stage, and they don't know what their role in the world is, and that can be the interesting catalyst for characters developing themselves into something more, transmogrification, transformation, maybe some make it and others don't. I didn't care for any of these characters but now I'm like "Let's see what you got"

For awhile, I was split on Jac's work, because I loved WandaVision, but I *hated* the Black Widow movie. Now that I'm loving Agatha All Along, it sparked me to look up Black Widow again, and I realized that Jac only wrote the initial script for it -- and then was replaced by someone, who in turn was replaced by someone else. I'm now telling myself that the mess of Black Widow was caused by all the replacements and rewrites, and I put my faith back in Jac 😁

I mean I could imagine when you face the craziest stuff around and then just have to... live afterwards life changes for you or just when things change and you accept them what else is there to look forward too? The avengers had each other and plainly the world always looked to them for more. The thunderbolts are expected to be anything more than trash. They aren't the big heroes so will they keep taking that or try to be something more even if it looks like many can't get along which will be fun

Both the cast and the characters are pretty promising in this one. I really liked Wyatt Russell's John Walker, Bucky is my favourite Avenger right now, David Harbour should be good for some laughs, and of course Florence Pugh is going to carry. This has potential.

A few things to say about this movie, now that this trailer is out, based on what we’ve seen so far: - Hoping this movie’s Rated R (as was rumored since last December), even in the wake of the $1.3B success of Deadpool & Wolverine, or hard PG-13 to do characters like Ghost or Sentry (ESPECIALLY when he becomes The Void) justice. - This is the same 3.5-minute trailer from Comic-Con (NOT D23 because it wasn’t shown there), but with some differences, mainly we don’t see Alexei belt out “ENOUGH TALK,” we don’t see Alexei’s speech in the car at the end where he cheers up the team, and we don’t see Yelena jumping off the Merdeka 118 tower, which was filmed in Malaysia and is practical, per Florence Pugh. - Also it looks like Val is indeed the owner of Avengers Tower, which means we’ll finally get the “who owned Avengers Tower” question answered. - And out of all the characters on the team, I’m curious to see how Ghost fits in on the team, given the team is all characters from Black Widow or Captain America fare, except Ghost because she’s a villain from Ant-Man and the Wasp, an Ant-Man movie villain, and that’s what fascinates me the most about her inclusion in the movie. - Also, I wonder if the Thunderbolts* title has an asterisk there because the team will become The Secret Avengers at the end of the movie, whereas Sam Wilson will form the New Avengers at the end of Captain America: Brave New World (since he won’t wanna follow Ross’s idea to have a government-sponsored team of Avengers) and we’ll see them again (alongside the Fantastic 4 and hopefully Deadpool) in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Adam invokes the name of Marvel Jesus, and Jay (face flushed with blushing glee) provokes the ancient grammar curse of “The Unanswered *”. That was A Really great trailer though. I have no clue where this movie is going, but something about that trailer did it for me. I will admit, when Bob introduced himself, I lost my mind cause I thought that was Deadpool’s Bob. Ex-Hydra Agent Bob! But I quickly learned that was a different aforementioned character (according to the IMDB of this movie). I know this movie went through some significant rewrites, cause Red Hulk was supposed to be in it too, but they swapped him out for Sentry, and put big red in Captain America 4.

My theory about the asterisk is that the Thunderbolts are supposed to be a group that Thunderbolt Ross puts together (from my understanding) but here it seems like Val is the one in charge. So maybe Ross was in the process of putting this group together, then whatever happens in New World Order takes place and Val is either tasked with or steals the plans to get the group together. So it’s the Thunderbolts* *Val is the one in charge not Ross

The overall "rudderless" direction of the MCU in recent years is probably why Adam's reacting the way he did. Jay makes a good point, these movies should've been out years ago. Marvel are realising maybe a little too late in order to course-correct on the whole quality of over quantity thing.

As much as I generally like the MCU, I do think one of their bigger issues is taking too long to get back to certain characters. Like, do we need a Thor 5 instead of a Shang-Chi 2 or a second season of Moon Knight or Echo? Not really.

Its astounding that something like Agatha All Along is coming out now 3 years removed from Wandavision. I guess going in with little to no long-term plan really has hamstrung them. Couple that with an inability to read the room on what's actually popular and like you said, aim toward a Thor 5, which nobody is asking for.

My theory: The * is suppose to represent 6 bullets and there’s 6 main “bad guys”. Bullets are seen in one shot doing nothing to Sentry. Our “bad guys” ain’t gonna be able to stop him or are gonna get all killed by him.

This is the moat excited I've been for an MCU movie in years. I haven't felt the want and need to see an MCU movie the second it comes out in theaters like i used to since Endgame until I watched this trailer. D&W was close to that feeling but just didn't have that (I have to be in the theater on Thursday night, first showing) feeling, and I'll see Cap 4 just because, but I have zero need to see it first showing. This is the first time I feel the need to inconvenience my schedule to see this ASAP for an MCU movie in years.

The one concern I have is that we potentially have another Enternals/Suicide Squad/Justice League movie, where they throw a bunch of characters into a movie, that we barely know them and expect to have a cohesive story, A story that needs to bring us up to speed on the characters so we can get to know them enough to care about them and then give us a big bad for us to root for them to defeat. We have been bitten too often to trust that this movie won’t fall flat. Perhaps if this was a TV show,it could give the time needed to let the characters breathe and grow. Like Adam, I am cautiously optimistic.

I had a similar non-feeling as Adam my first go around watching it. But now, this second time, watching it with you guys, I like it better. I think it takes a little time to grow on ya. I AM pleased, however, that they aren't going to shoehorn Bucky into somehow being on the 'bad guys' team because that doesn't make any sense. So having him pursuing them first, yes. Two main characters and an antagonist can carry these movies when it's done right, so Yelena + Bucky + Sentry ought to be more than enough. They're each compelling. Bucky and Yelena are each at interesting places in their story arcs coming in, and they each have some touchy connections with the others. And say what you will about Sentry, but he's not a boring character. What I'm most excited about, I think, is the rest of the team. Not that I'm a diehard fan of any of them, but this production is getting a second shot at fixing the mistakes they made with characters like Taskmaster or Ghost or (to a lesser extent) Red Guardian and US Agent. Marvel isn't impervious to making mistakes, but when they recognize a mistake and try to make it better, they're very good at that. Especially when they go off the beaten path a bit. I'm thinking of the retcons/fixes/recontextualizations we've had recently. Andrew Garfield's Spidey. The Mandarin. The Marvels. Ragnarok. If they can get those characters right (narratively and in their action sequences), this movie will be an absolute banger. Like... dark horse for best of the phase.

I agree with Jay. The trailer itself is awesome, and I’m VERY much looking forward to watching this. Though I do feel that the trailer/movie itself would be hitting harder had it been released maybe a year or two ago. At this point in time, a good bunch of these characters, we haven’t seen in 3 years. I love “Wakanda Forever,” but i if Phase 4 had ended with “Thunderbolts*”, I think people would’ve appreciated that phase more, as we had seen characters from projects released in that time frame, team up the way we saw the Avengers first assemble in 2012. But since we’re gonna be 4 years removed from when some of these characters were introduced or referenced, I imagine it’s tougher for some audience members to either remember or get on board with them. Or I could be wrong. We’re 3 years removed, and people still want Shang Chi 2, myself included. Ahhh rant over. End of story, I can’t wait to watch this. Between this, Brave New World, and Fantastic Four, it’s nice to see Marvel teeing up a concrete hero roster for their future Avengers movies.

My prediction is that they are keeping the asterisk so that the end of Cap 4 isn't spoiled. I think Cap 4 introduces us to the Dark Avengers, and this title gets changed to The Dark Avengers.. But we'll see

I think the thing for me that has me at least tepidly interested is that it has at least a central character focus on Yelena who is an interesting protagonist with, so far, a clear arc of trying to find/define herself. Though I wish they were doing the comic accurate “bad guys pretending to be good guys who end up becoming heroes”, I think I’d be cool with a more Ultimates/Ultimate Avengers “we’re bringing the Black Op ‘heroes’ out of the shadows with a shiny rebrand into public HEROES^tm… with a bit more govt oversight 😉” My biggest question is: who are they going to fight? I don’t think Bucky is the main antagonist as he was in that elevator shot at what I’m assuming is near the end of the movie …but Bob wasn’t in that elevator or in the team pose with Julia Louis Dreyfuss talking… so is some *version* of him the Big Bad for the 3rd act?

I'm with Adam on this one, because I am intrigued but not invested. I like Yelena, I like Alexei, I like Bucky and their collective involvement get me in the door. I"m otherwise lukewarm on the premise of this group, especially with no real hint of what is actually going on here. I did *not* pick up on the Sentry information until Jay mentioned it, mostly because I'm fairly unfamiliar with the character, but also because in the comic his belt is like a WWE title belt and that buckle looked way too small for that. So, I'm probably going to watch it, out of curiosity if nothing else, but probably not in the theater.
