I played drums for 20 years and still have no clue what Dave Weckl is doing. The man is an alien.
@kcorpora12 жыл бұрын
He is not an alien, you are just grasping the concept after 20 years.

That’s because you’ve listened to R&R all your life and have not expanded your musical horizons!! If you have no clue then you are not an accomplished player!!!

Dave has the most unique phrasing and vocabulary. Certainly my all time favorite...

He is indeed alien - Stopped off one day on Earth for a Pee and then felt sorry for the local drummers imho

The guy just has everything. Superb technical ability. 4 way independence. Great touch. And his ideas...he never repeats himself except where the composition calls for it. Been a drummer all mu life and a jazz player for last 20 years. Never seen his kind before. Simply the best drummer in the world.

Absolutely

@@heathwilson7726 I think in a few years he'll hand the torch to Larnell Lewis. Other than that... Dave is kind of the only drummer were I personally cannot name someone better..

I don't get this thing about best drummer in the world. There are so many great artists, comparing them is pointless. Our preferences are only a matter of taste and colors.

I'm not saying Dave and John invented fusion, but Elektric Band really brought it to the forefront in the late 80's and early 90's. These guys are monsters and we should be happy to be in a world where they live and still create music.

Agreed. DEFINITELY one of the leaders, though. As a 'kid' I remember having Chic, Weather Report, etc in the old ugly cassette player in the car. Not exactly the Alpine/Dyne Audio/Morel/DSP system I have installed in the traveling car now. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to call them both by the same name, a car audio system. This one you can actually tell the difference between an oboe and a clarinet, VERY readily. :-)

You're witnessing three exceptionally-talented musicians interacting like one cohesive unit. Each, in an of itself, a master class, a lifetime of analysis for an average musician to reverse-engineer. Tight. On-point. If if you look close enough, Dave actually adjust his snare drum in the middle of doing what most drummers could never come close to executing. Love the video, technically, too. Great birdseye views. Rare insights. What a gift to see this talent.

Yet another master class in musicianship by Mr. Weckl and Mr. Patitucci. This is my first-time hearing Mr. Keivan and he is definitely on point. Oh well, time to go practice some more.

In a world where everyone defines themselves as musicians with rhymes and "autotunes", seeing you play, with taste married to technique should be taken to measure for all those who define themselves between the lines as musicians! Thank you

The jazz trio with piano, drums and 6 string electric bass is one of the greatest inventions of modern jazz. Michel Camillo, Hiromi, Aziza Mustafa Zadeh and now Hami all know the benefits of this choice. I`ve listened to this song over and over. Great work.

Love Dave Weckl's setup with the 2 16" Floor Toms. A great combination of the past & the present. Probably the closest thing to seeing Dave Weckl's from the 80s on Back to Basics, The Next Step & Buddy Rich Memorial 1989.

Dave, unlike anyone else I can think of, actually gets better every year. He was already my fave 30 years ago and I really don’t understand how this is possible. But his command not just of the drums but of the whole process of musicmaking us just…frightening. He literally scares me nowadays. 😬
