@@spekkio3864 no, most plastic products aren't recyclable, actually only a few types of PET can be recycled in factories and such in a safe way and they have limited amount of times they can be recycled, idfk why we still use plastic bottles tbh, they make our water have an expiration date lmfao

imagine the future where 3D printers are highly accessible and as consumer friendly as the printer where every household essentially needs them, where you have bottle companies designing bottles designed with the intention of being turned into a filament, and either home manned machines made to cut the bottles into filaments or a public resource that allows you to transfer the bottles to filaments for personal use.

You could add the color after cutting the bottle and right before bringing it into the round filament shape. I am sure you could easily buy an apparatus that holds the cpuloured edding in place so it works automatically
@richard--s
@richard--s Жыл бұрын
He covered the bottle relatively evenly with color. The blank spaces without color are more or less evenly distributed over the bottle. So it did not matter where the cut goes or if the strip had just material between two pen-painted patterns. And it worked for his print. I think it's easier to paint it on or in the bottle in comparison to painting the strip which might have sharp edges all along the cut.

What if instead of manually coloring the inside of the bottle, you clipped a sharpie to where the strip is pulled through? It would color the strip as you pulled it against the sharpie.
@richard--s
@richard--s Жыл бұрын
Yes, this method has also been done to color a ready-made transparent filament. They tried it with one or two pens on the filament. I have not heard much about it afterwards. But on the cut-down bottle it makes even more sense, because you can hardly get it in other colors or it might not be your taste. So you can color it as you want it (on the bottle or with pens at the bottle cutter on the stripes...)

I believe I've seen someone (either Function.3d or another channel, I can't remember) use a heatgun/heat from a low flame to smooth out the bottle and achieve a more uniform radius You need an air pump and a rubber stopper (or a custom lid with an airtight check valve) to inflate the bottle. The pressure will make the heated parts of the bottle bow outwards as they soften, and with a little practice or techniques tailored to the starting bottle shape, you can achieve a relatively uniform cylindrical shape! Even if it's not a perfectly constant radius, it should work just fine so long as there are no angles too severe to prevent the proper amount of plastic to be cut by the bearings as it's all going to be reformed by the heated extruder anyway

That the filament is hollow is not a problem but a fact, if it were a problem it would have a solution, just as it is a fact that you have to print with between 10% and 30% more flow depending on the type of bottle and/or the cutting width
