Normally I say read the books first, but the films are so well done I don't differentiate between them as far as recommending. There's some tonal differences, a lot of skipped lore, and they action-movie it up quite a bit for an audience... but all in all, probably as faithful someone could be to the books for a film adaptation that would be mass-appealing.

@TravisMarsala I agree with Travis on this one. The movies are fantastic but there is something to be said for using your imagination while you are reading the books for the first time. If you watch the movies first you will have the actors that portrayed the characters in your head instead.

Funny enough - I read them first. Saw the bakshi animated version. Saw the movie trilogy. Re-read them recently and the pictures in my head were the Bakshi version. 🤷🏻‍♂️
