This is Eric Deming - one of the ones that spoke out in the interview. When you do an interview, you don’t get to choose what soundbites get used. I thought they did a great job with the time they used, but there is more to the story. It is limited as to how much I can post in each comment, so I will break this up into 4 parts. 1 of 4 As you all know, there have been significant issues in the SEAL Teams for the past 10+ years which continue to this day. While most of us silent professionals assumed the exploiters, profiteers, loud-mouths, and narcissists would fall on their swords, they have actually gained power. They now have too much influence over too many SEAL careers, BUD/S prospects, politics in America and society. How could we have let the worst of the Teams represent us? Most of the ones in the media, writing books, and doing podcasts were some of the worst performers when active. Some of them were among the few the Navy actually pushed out for not being quiet professionals, or for poor ethics and criminal activity. Unfortunately, the Navy didn’t push out enough of the bad SEALs, and were unable to stop the ones they did push out from profiting off their time in the SEALs. The SEAL leadership is trying to say they are pivoting or evolving, but the ones saying this were silent as the Teams devolved into the situation we are in now -and some of them actively participated in this downfall. While our SEAL name continues to be drug through the mud from these corrupted SEALs. These “turds,” as we call them in the Teams, have misled the American public. They have lied and embellished their time in the Teams and used the deaths of their Teammates to monetize it. Many have a big following on social media; some are paid by major news shows; others are writing books in which they lie; and still others are paid as guest speakers to talk about medals they didn’t earn, and teach about SEAL attributes they lack. The only reason I openly came out in the media, is because this is the battle space where these turds operate. I’m not writing or pushing a book. I have not profited in any way from this. I’m trying to get the attention of Big Navy, Congress, investigators reporters and letting you, my fellow Americans, know the truth.

I thought they did a great job with the time they used, but there is more to the story. It is limited as to how much I can post in each comment, so I will break this up into 4 parts 3 of 4 My son wanted to be a SEAL, but I knew the coward SEALs would target and hurt him to get to me. They would use this leverage to stop me from continuing to expose them, as I attempted to do with my Inspector General report when I first became aware of their wrongdoing and continued to do for 8 more years until I retired. I’ve also heard this from other SEALs that were concerned about their own sons’ welfare if they spoke out. My son saw the battle I was fighting. I’ve earned his respect, and he values my perspective. Getting through BUDs is hard enough to do by itself, doing it while corrupted SEALs try to sabotage you is next to impossible. If he made it, I would have to worry about him getting shot in the back, just as I worried there were some of the corrupted SEALs targeting me downrange where criminal investigations are challenging, and criminal acts easier to cover up. I knew my son could do anything he wanted and would have made a great SEAL. But he would have had to fight the corrupted SEALs from day one. Unfortunately, the Navy lost a great patriot, who would have been a great warrior with strong moral fiber.

But many of us have tried to report these wrong doings internally with no impact. Unfortunately, this criminal element within the Teams has been able to silence legitimate investigations while the problem SEALs get moved and are not held accountable, and most get promoted and get medals. They maintain control by attacking the good SEALs, other Special Forces, and support personnel who stand up to report the wrongdoing, while those who stand up for what is right see their careers and reputations sabotaged for speaking against these criminal SEAL elements.

It's unfortunate from what I've heard is leadership failures in the SEAL teams during operations and downtime. There have been many issues of drug abuse, alcoholism and shady practices by SEALS. Some SEALs, not all, have let the trident grow their ego where they have forgotten why they joined the Teams in the first place. Some of the ego driven behavior has gotten Sailors killed. Compare this culture to Delta, PJs, Special Forces, Raiders or Combat Controllers and you start seeing the changes needed in the SEAL teams. Special Operations do amazing work but it takes a toll on marriages, family life and the human mind. There must be a better infrastructure and support for mental health

When you say corruption, are you talking about the efforts by the prosecution to uncover and stop illegal information leaks and witness intimidation by Eddie's legal counsel? www.military.com/daily-news/2021/05/05/gallagher-claims-seal-platoon-agreed-practice-medical-procedures-dying-prisoner.html

I was an infantry team leader in Ramadi during the invasion and subsequent occupation. We worked a couple missions with SEALS. We’d basically act as extra security and cordon off blocks for them to operate inside. We were rent-a-cops for them. Their vehicles arrived before they’d arrive, and they had an advance party that went around and told us not to bother them or engage with them when they got there. Then they’d hop in and we’d do the mission. They acted like celebrities. We patrolled those streets in 120deg heat, all day and all night, with 80lbs of gear. I lived in a rat infested stables with no doors, no windows, no power, and no running water. We slept on the floor and three MREs a day. They swoop in, do a mission, and swoop out back to the rear with the gear.

To play devils advocate: 1) imagine how much Navy recruitment has increased because of all the books and movies and notoriety. That’s a good thing. 2) There is UNDENIABLY a very human tendency to feel things like envy or jealousy of others’ fame or money. IM NOT SAYING THESE PEOPLE SPEAKING OUT IN THIS INTERVIEW ARE JEALOUS.... but it’s possible. Even SEALs aren’t above such basic human emotions. I’ve seen it first hand with very incredible and intelligent people.... sometimes people feel a grudge against other’s who achieve fame or money. It’s natural.

Behavioral analysis: many elite combat operatives have subclinical psychopathy or on occasion clinical psychopathy which in combat is helpful due to reduced emotional reactivity and fearless dominance as it allows them to stay calm and functional during activities considered normally antisocial but under combat conditions considered necessary and prosocial. Psychopaths have three goals: power, pleasure, and profit. The navy seals who are cashing in are psychopathic and achieving one of their goals which contradicts the goals of the navy seal community.

@@macmcleod1188 Ok I'm sorry if I wasn't clear. This isn't a "I don't agree" or anything to do with opinions. This is just basic facts on the Navy SEALs. They are trained how they are trained. You can't have an opinion on how they are trained, that's something that's a fact. You can have your opinion on HOW they should be trained, but the way they are trained is a fact. You can't just disagree that it's not done that way. And don't even try to tell me I'm wrong, I've spent countless hours researching this topic because a Navy SEAL is exactly what I want to become. Were I a SEAL, and participated in this raid, I would have no right to take credit as I was just following orders

No one wants their child to grow up to become a trained killer but America doesn't seem to know how to produce "entertainment" that doesn't consist of overt violence, raunchy sex and alcoholism. The military produces exceptional killers which does not always translate well when soldiers attempt to be stable and loving spouses or parents, since violence, sexual assault and alcoholism seems to be byproducts of the military experience.

I did some therapeutic respiratory therapy with a Seal some years ago, these were exactly his sentiments also. As a gamer myself, I've often wondered just how much further ahead of games were the real thing, as far as Im aware, there are no or very little Russian or Chinese tactical video games with fairly detailed operations and controls which might have some -or a lot of- crossover with reality and tradecraft. Its a tough call, as games have been a boon to Military recruitment.

As a navy veteran, my knowledge recalls All the leaks and show boating stared with video game and movie input by prior and current Socom members.. By far the looses lipped group has to be seals.. Talking and having worked with delta and other Socom operators they all say the Seals were the least professional group to work with.. For various reasons, the main issue many operators felt the seal selection process was the main issue.. The fact the Navy will take a 18-19 year old kid right out of boot camp, run him through training then release them into the world with the perception of being a super hero.. This is not the case for the other operator groups.. The selection process is completely different. Until the navy fixes theses issues, the systemic issues will continue.
