In a way Charlie is actually a great Smiling Friend field employee, he's completely apathetic so clients can relate to him, and he's not really fazed by the horrors of reality which is good helps his clients coregulate. Personally if I had Pim assigned to me I'd kinda feel more guilty and upset if his pushy optimism doesn't make me smile. Itd be a lot easier to feel less judged and to take things a lot easier if the employee doesnt care either way.
