Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. We have a glut of eggs right now as well, though we sell most of ours. One meal my kids love that uses several eggs is a Ramen style soup with leeks/scallions, mushrooms, leafy greens, ginger, garlic, fresh parsley, noodles/rice, one egg scrambled and drizzled in, and then 1-2 eggs each soft poached in the soup. So delicious and nutritious.

@@VenisonforDinner yes, we tapped the trees and boiled the sap on a 55 gallon barrel stove. We collected approximately 80 gallons of sap and boiled down to 2 gallons of maple syrup. Lots of firewood, lots of fun.

Thank you for you videos. I tried making my own tortillas. They turned out pretty good. I used a rolling pin to spread the dough but I think it would work best with a press. Mine seemed too thick and rather small. Did you like making your tortillas?

we wash in water and after we wash they have to be put in fridge. If not washed, they can stay on counter

Can I ask what your favorite configuration is for pressings cheese (like how many jugs and books throughout the process)? I have a similar homemade cheese press and I gather random heavy things around my house to press but haven’t found a super successful set up yet. Also does your press get angled sometimes? I have 4 posts on mine but it still likes to get angled on me.

We watch simple living Alaska and they had the same issue. Bees died before using up their food.

We live in northern BC and learned the hard way over a few years, the only way we can keep bees over the winter is to put the hives in a room next to our chickens with a small space heater to keep the room around +1 deg C.
