As a lady, I take issue with the inward cameras. I want to scratch my bra strap and not be paranoid some guy is watching. Not to mention forgetting to cover the camera when Im really tired and on break. Is that why they want women truckers?

Western just put cameras in our trucks. A lot of people quit, and others won't come here now. My favorite Pilot is the one in Weed, CA because it's mentioned in, "Of Mice and Men (Weed not Pilot - ha ha ha), and I taught that book for 24 years. My first time was overwhelmingly emotional. Where i work has driver facing AI camera. Been here 8 months and its yet to go off. However in the 8 months I've seen over 20 drivers been let go for "incidents". Just shows if you drive the way you are supposed to, you wont have any issues.

In some cases these cameras are AI companies that literally pay the companies and use the drivers for data points. The drivers are data subjects and the company makes like 800,000 bucks

Oh yeah. All the data gleaned by Qualcomm from the logs is sold to truckstops and other companies. Truckstop companies then sell the data of users in their affinity programs.

When I came to prime years ago, the recruiter told me that I would be home every weekend because of where I lived. that was a big factor in my decision because I knew nothing about the trucking world. Not only did I do 68,000 miles in the TNT phase. I was able to go home once every six or seven weeks, most of the things that the recruiter told me had just enough truth sprinkled on the top to make me excited

The DAB members were shown real footage of the driver facing cameras and it’s pretty cool….I wouldn’t worry…the angle is solely on the drivers not full cabin.

Your Pete has one.. it’s incident based recording that Prime would have access to. The problem with the inward camera is the AI option. They pick up on yawns, eye movement, reaching for a Diet Coke… etc.

@@timtravels116that’s because you never had an incident to warrant a call. I was working for a carrier that had the Smart drive cameras. They weren’t AI based, but still a huge pain in the ass. You were more worried about triggering the camera and increasing your driver score vs. actually driving the truck! The Samsara AI cameras are watching your every move. Yawn, get a call, reach for something, get a call… I honestly don’t see the value in inward facing cameras. I mean, we’re already automatically going to be blamed for ANY incident..

Agree on not pulling out in front traffic that has right of way. But disagree on truck driver being 100% at fault for drunk driving under trailer scenario. Would be partially at fault at best. Under common standard of who was last person who could have avoided accident, drunk would be 100% at fault; even sober driver would be 100% at fault under that standard.

@@timtravels116 Hey, few times I've been in traffic court, I saw case after case where judge used the who was last person who could have avoided accident standard to confirm guilt or dismiss a ticket. These weren't civil cases, so tort law wouldn't apply. I wouldn't be surprised if some jurisdictions use other standards for traffic court, but who was last person who could have avoided accident is a common standard.

@@stevec8861 Tort law is civil law. Each state has different negligence regimes. Pure comparative negligence, modified comparative negligence, contributory negligence, Last Clear Chance Doctrine, Assumption of Risk, etc. So for you to opine what would or wouldn’t happen in a given scenario is useless. And just because you sat through a few cases in court means almost nothing.
