I swear I feel you November is the busy time of the year like coming up with a great colonizers day meal, black Friday shopping spree, seeing family members and meeting their couples, work piles up like oof I swear November and December make me wanna drink a whole bottle of rum and champagne. I honestly think the whole consumerism culture around holidays all from Halloween through New Years is so stupid stressful for everyone when we should be having fun and enjoying our time with people we love. I agree, it's overwhelming. I hope you have a nice month this year as well.

My eldest sister has been making, among other things, rosehip jam since the early 1970s. She lives in a magical place in the foothills of the Canadian Valhalla mountains of BC. The snow can get deep in Winter, but year round she gets visits from all the wildlife in the area. Hares, bears, deer, and so many more. It's a thrill to watch the osprey hunting over the lake. She tried planting apple trees a few times but the deer would come in at night and eat the saplings. ♥

All of my neighbors told me the deer would eat my baby trees when I planted my orchard... I built cages of 6' field fencing, anchored with 1 T-post, diameter under 4'. Tall enough & small enough, the deer didn't jump in. Once the trees outgrow their cages, they are big enough to survive predation. All of the components can be reused on other projects. My original trees are almost 20 yrs old now. This last summer one of my neighbors planted an orchard, now that he's retired. I smiled to see him recreating my cage idea.

@@brandyjean7015 I love that you got your trees and the natural fruit must be wonderful. ♥ I can remember having plum trees in our yard in the big city and every Summer was a joy. I agree, the 'cage' is a great idea. My sister had considered something similar until a neighbour reminded her that the apples themselves would be an attractant for the many bears in the area, including the Grizzlies. Some bears you can chase away. Not so the beautiful and unpredictable Grizzly. I'm not sure where you are, but maybe you don't have a problem with the bears. Such a gorgeous and majestic animal that you don't want hanging around. Still, I'm envious you'd made an orchard and the child that still lives inside me would love to sit on a branch and spend a few hours eating apples and listening to the birds and insects going about their day. Persimmon season just ended here in Jackson County, Missouri, and I miss it already. I'm so thankful I returned from AZ just in time to spend some time with a few of my old local spirits before diving into my new job. I brought them egg shells and other nutritious goodies as offerings and collected a basket worth of their scrumptious persimmons while enjoying the cool crispy air on my cheeks and fingers. Moments like those, with a basket full of fresh persimmons, apples and pears , it's what I live for. And this years persimmon bread, it's more than worth it. Happy holidays Olivia! Rose hips grow in my grove, and every few years I think about making a tea with them. I could do with the vitamins, but the local birds love those hips and I always think they can do with them more than I can. So I leave them for a bird feast, and it's one of the things that brings me close to nature without even tasting them.

My partner played guitar in a Def Leppard tribute band as well. He started it in 2011 but ended it in 2020 when they couldn't rehearse or play. The travelling and gigging was starting to take up too much time for what started out as a hobby.
