The Zebeth name might have been a mistranslation due to the "th" phenome in Japanese sounding like the English phenome "s". The Localizers might have assumed it was supposed to be Zebeth rather than Zebes due to this. It's the same mixup that caused Aerith of Final Fantasy VII to be originally known as Aeris. When such words using the "th" sound are romanized, they are often written with an "s" rather than "th".

"th" sounds at the end of a word are one of the hardest things to romanize with Japanese, but it's agreed upon that the best and closest thing to use would be ス "Su". And "Su" is also just used for words that end with an S also. So I think some poor translator had to just stare at ゼベス "Zebesu" and just flip a coin on weather it meant "Zebes" or "Zebeth" because he had no direction. Lmao. 6:10 ... where does it stand for me? First video game I ever beat back in 1988. Since then, I have play through and beaten it countless times. At this point, the map is burned into my mind. After, unfortunately, contracting sepsis about a year ago, I lost almost all of my memories due to brain damage. In the long months since then, recovering - slowly - through the past several months in a nursing facility, I have, quite fortunately, been given the chance to play through the NES Metroid, and... memory loss from sepsis is fickle... i STILL remember every corner of Zebes, able to play through it and find all missile expansions to a collection score of 255, and all six energy tanks - not forgetting the two bonus tanks that don't count towards the overall health total - just bonuses to top off Samus' health at opportune moments. Needless to say, I absolute ADORE this game, and will be through it again for many years to come... hopefully. I skirted past the cut-off point for sepsis - 35-45% chance of relapse within 8 or 9 years. Here's hoping for now flukes to suffer through. Would really like to go back to the world of the living, getting a job, and continuing my adventure for a long time. Still hoping to play through Dread - I bought it, and even got sepsis the day before I was planning to start my own playthrough of Dread.

Your original SGB Metroid videos were some of your first videos I watched and actually convinced me to give Metroid a try and become a fan of the series so its awesome to see you redoing them. Can't wait for Dread, I hope you enjoy it when it comes out Johnny!

YEEEEAAH! I just started getting into Metroid and Metroidvanias in general, so I can't wait for this! I beat Ori and the Blind Forest at the same time Dread got announced, so I finally dove into the Metroidvania genre. Beat Zero Mission, I've started Metroid II on GB, and I started Tails' Adventure on Game Gear.

Oh man, this brought me back! The SGB Super Metroid review is where I discovered this channel all those years ago. It's good to see Johnny still around making reviews to this day and still giving honest opinions. Also, I have not been this hyped for a new game in so long. Metroid is back and I'm here for it!

Hey Johnny, you mentioned that you love watching Metroid speedruns. Have you had any exposure to Metroid randomizers? Fusion actually got a randomizer very recently and it's a blast!

@@SomecallmeJohnny It's kind of crazy what they've managed to create with the LTTP/SM randomizer by now. I've been seeing six-player multiplayer runs with auto-updating trackers and all kinds of nifty extras. It's incredible what they're doing with that stuff.

I've recently been watching some Prime Multiworld Randomisers and the concept boggles my mind. Especially the one showcased on the GDQ channel recently that involves both Prime 1 AND Prime 2.

After years of hearing about the development story of the original Metroid and Kid Icarus, I always figured Metroid would have been the much better game. Then I actually played the original games, and I think Kid Icarus actually turned out better. Metroid without maps or a proper way to heal is a real drag, and the way the ice beam was handled hurts. It really came into its own on the SNES, while Kid Icarus just got forgotten until it became the best Star Fox game 25 years later.

14:22 What's funny is, the Varia Suit Is the only item for which you can sequence break in this game, because as soon as you get missiles and bombs, everything else is obtainable.
