The weirdest part is that, according to TheJWittz, the voice recognition is pretty much spot on. The issue seems to be that Pikachu will just outright ignore you sometimes. I don’t mind if it happens a little, this is a Pokémon after all, not a robot, but it happens way too often to be fun. A remake/sequel using modern knowledge of how to properly make flexible voice recognition software and the lessons learned from this game could be tons of fun for people of all ages! Don’t worry about Puzzle League, but if you can slip in the meme-worthy battle quotes from various characters somehow, that’d be fun! Coliseum and Gale of Darkness are essentially mini-RPGs, so they won’t take toooooo long. Gale of Darkness even has some Sinnoh Pokémon!

Regarding Pokemon Puzzle League, I think it would be better suited as a review on the Puzzle League/Panel de Pon series in general and the various reskins the series has gone through. It started off as its own franchise with fairy characters but later delved into Yoshi, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing.

4:28 I had wondered why this minigame didn't work for Johnny, yet MasaeAnela got a perfect score on her first try in her LP, so I looked up information regarding the VRU. It turns out the accessory was calibrated for best recognition of a high-pitched voice, such as a child's voice. I think you just need to play all of the missions once, given Masae only did 30 days. The last mission before the ending is worse. Following Pikachu around in a box, being told to not have Pikachu notice you. No talking, you just follow as Pikachu does pretty much everything except what he was meant to do.

I had fun with this game as a kid I do distinctly remember trying to command Pikachu was a major pain in the ass but the environments and activities had their charm. It was great exploring a 3D Pokemon world at the time. Even though I haven't played this game in over 20 years that song that plays while searching for Poliwag has stuck with me
